    1) say something controversial to get engagement.

    3) make up mythical friends, historical accounts, and events that never happened to back yourself up further.
    4) never answer questions just deflect and raise strawman arguments.

      don't forget: women should be small, pure, obedient doormats who don't get an education nor a career- they marry a husband and have kids who they then clean up after and cook meals for. oh, and once they turn 29, you might as well order their casket and headstone because they are practically ancient at that point. she is the exact opposite of the type of woman she claims that every other woman should be.

The only way I got out was through the social services terminating their parental rights and being adopted into a loving family. Though it doesn’t mean I can “know” what it’s like for others who live through the same thing when they are older, I still have all the compassion and empathy my heart can pour out to people who are in the middle of it, or who are just starting recovery. Actually also on the marriage thing, Celtic tradition was to only be married for a certain amount of time. When that marriage ended, they had the option to renew that or part ways. That’s where the idea behind a vow renewal came from, so even long long ago, marriage wasn’t “till death”

    • @BinturongGirl
      @BinturongGirl 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +69

      I have heard of this being practiced more recently, using 7 year cycles. After that time, the couple sit down and have an honest discussion about the relationship, and mutually decide to go into another 7 years or part ways.
      I like it as an idea, as it encourages people not to take their partner for granted. Downside, if you have had a wonderful 6 years and then have a tragedy, mental health problems, fall on hard times etc... Some people have very short memories.

    • @JuriAmari
      @JuriAmari 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

      @@BinturongGirl I’ve heard of the 7 year thing too. I think it’s a Lakota, Dakota, or Haudanoshonee (Iroquois) tradition (a lot of tribes have adopted it nowadays so I’ve forgotten the origin). There’s also the year and a day tradition from Celtic spirituality as the OG commenter described. Nowadays the latter is used as an engagement period rather than an actual marriage covenant.
      There’s even a couple of things in Christian tradition called the crying of the Banns & Pre-Cana where there is a period of time (usually weeks to months before the wedding) between the public announcement and the ceremony where it gives the couple time to discover for themselves and for others to come forward with any impediments to their relationship - be it legal or personal. The Banns are posted twice in the press and/or the newsletter and then read for the final time at the beginning of the ceremony (the “if there’s any reason why they shouldn’t be together, speak now or forever hold your peace” portion). It’s not just for drama - most manage to get the impediments worked out before it gets to that point but there’s always one thing that slips through the cracks. This is also why dispensations and annulments exist.

      @JuriAmari FYI the banns of marriage were still getting read out during church services in the Church of England back when I was still practicing about 20yrs ago. They'd be read out for couples not just of that parish but neighbouring parishes a minimum of 2 times as you said, to allow anyone who might know that e.g. the bride & groom are actually half siblings, or the groom is still married to someone else a few towns over etc, to be able to tell the Vicar about why these people can't be legally married.

    What’s truly frustrating about the “women are ruining marriage because they’re breaking their vows” argument is it fully glosses past whether or not the men have also maintained their vows.
    If marriage is a contract, and the man doesn’t love, honor, and cherish his wife, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, for as long as they both shall live, HE is the one who broke the contract. If he abuses his wife, HE broke the contract. If he cheats, HE broke the contract. If he tricks his wife into having kids, he not loving or honoring his wife and HE BROKE THE DAMN CONTRACT. The wife no longer is obligated to stay in that relationship.

When he told him that he blew up stating he shouldn't have to change his job and she should still do it and be both the traditional wife...but keep her job. I also got to hear his next girlfriend wonder why my mother left him and my dad offhandedly encourage her "you have to be crazy to leave a gentleman like him." "Yeah, don't worry. My ex is just crazy. That's the only reason why." Not like he was actively trying to use financial force to keep my mom from leaving at the same time or leveraging the college funds against us kids. My father will tell you he never SA’d me as a child, but he did. And my ex husband will tell you he never knocked me unconscious and then r-ped me, but he did. I did not report either of them because of my fear of them, so I am not even included in any of the stats. And no matter what. Still no one has picked her. She clearly hates herself so much and honestly, i can see why

      The only thing she said that I sorta agree with is if you're fat then you are fat, I don't think it's healthy as a society to tell bigger people that they are meant to be that way. Don't get me wrong I won't be a douche about it but if the topic is brought up I wont sugar coat it, and I understand that some people truly can't lose weight do to health conditions but that is very rare. In short, I agree on the subject but not how she goes about addressing it.

    Ok, just to say where I'm coming from, I am a stay at home mom and was a virgin on my wedding night. I'm exactly what Just Pearly Things seems to think women should be, apparently.
    And with all that said, I cannot stand her! I chose to do/be these things because it was what was best for me. That doesn't mean it is the only way for women to live.
    My husband and I have this setup due to my own medical needs (most jobs wouldn't work for me). I have a safety net if anything ever happened between us. I am, quite frankly, privileged to be able to live this way.
    If I didn't have this safety net, I don't think I'd be comfortable not having an income as well. And I don't understand the vitriol towards other women that chose to work (for practical reasons or just because they wish to). And the idea that women deserve to be cheated on or whatever due to being "unpure"... I just do not understand how much she seems to hate women.
    Just starting this video, but what I've seen on her in other videos, it blows my mind her views and attitude.

      45:05 seriously! Part of why I agreed to go out with my now husband was because he was also waiting for marriage to have sex. He didn't expect me to be a virgin while not being one (the number of guys that wanted to be with me back in college only because I was a virgin was horrifying).
      And again, to be clear, not saying anything against other choices. But the weird double standard was so frustrating. I wasn't necessarily only willing to be with a man that had never had sex, but if a man thought sex before marriage was ok for men but not women, they were immediately someone I wouldn't date.

    As a man who was in a horribly abusive relationship. I did some not great things. But don't blame the fucking victim. I appreciate that you are such a strong advocate of victims of abuse. It makes me feel not so alone. And it's nice to see someone with a platform being loud about it. Thank you.
