He definitely cared about what he was doing but you can't deny that it seemed like he was targeting shaun from the start though.
He was
He most certainly was. He was babying him and telling him he would let him take on more responsibilities as he went and I hate that, that's discrimination. Sorry, a bit passionate, I'm autistic with a severe panic disorder and I always have fought through this. Not just me but my best friend too, shes also autistic and works in Healthcare, she has worked so hard to get where she is.❤had to edit, I believe Han said we can work up to more responsibilities, that's so degrading.
I believe that Dr. Han is also upset by Dr. Sean because he (Dr. Sean) has a better ability to diagnose some illnesses that Han did not recognize...
Dr Han was a pragmatist and, pragmatically, Shaun was not a correct fit for a surgeon. Dr Glassman, on the other hand, sees Shaun intuitively and knows he is.
@@AFoxInFlames “Kudos to you, and your friend”
Its a shame dr house would've loved shaun on his team the difference between house and shaun is that shaun dosen't understand social cues while house dosen't care about them
I'd watch that show. House would get Shaun to do stuff for his kicks bc he doesn't understand social cues.
True 😂
Yes
I could see him sending Shaun to the patients’ homes. He’d be perfect to analyze the environments. I could also see the two walking to HR together or having joint meeting.
Let’s not pretend House wouldn’t intentionally mess with Shaun just to see how he would react.
And thats how he became Fire Lord😂
😂😂😂😂 oh yeah
Glad I came back for this comment 😂
I've met some great surgeons that had crappy bedside manner. And not very good surgeons that had terrific verbal skills but crap outcomes. After many many surgeries I'd pick the first, and I've had both.
Dr. Han kept saying Dr. Murphy wouldn’t make a good surgeon because he couldn’t communicate well. Communication is not just the ability to speak but also the ability to listen. Murphy can listen to the patient and he sees the condition. Han just talks and talks and talks.
Realitingly this Dr. Shaun wants the other good Dr Han fired! As a view, I already hate him. Yes you do! What has Autism got to do with being a good Doctor?
Dr.Han knows talking will get you far, but he cannot relate to anybody. He knows how to punch people down, because he is a psychopath.
And no, he is not a sociopath. I know the difference.
I have met surgeons that donot have autism but fail dismally in people skills.
Yes. Han also shame train people
Shaun has shit communication skills.
Communication is extremely vital for the healthcare team and patient.
Proper communication or lack of it can make the difference between life and death for your patient.
Dr. Shaun care about the future, never hides the truth of your sickness anyway. You have the mind Dr. Han but Dr. Shaun perceived the new future of humanity in terms of medical terminology and different treatment.
I think he wanted to do the right thing, he wasn't wrong in saying to Shaun that he couldn't control his emotions, he was wrong in not recognizing his talent and the fact that he was a good surgeon.
He went "this kid is limping, so I'll take off his leg and see if he's still happy to help me file my taxes
I see. Instead of isolating Shaun's character flaws, Dr. Han assumed it was it overall character. Correct?
@@tonyj9203 basically yes
He wants to put him down and wants to keep him down. Dr. Glassman told him to fight for his job. The board asked him him why he wanted to be a surgeon. If he had wanted to be in pathology, he could have done that himself.
This asshole switched him to the pathology department, but the team kept asking for his help. But he wasn't allowed back on the team. I'm glad he was fired for abusing Shaun.
When you hate a character so much on a show that you realize the actor has done an amazing job acting to make you feel that way about a certain character. Daniel Dae Kim is an a amazing actor 👍🏽
That's the way I feel about Danny Glover in the color purple I can't stand him
I probably want to punch him for the next few years, when i see him in another show for that, so yeah great acting.
I agree with the firing of Dr Han...as a retired nurse, I know a prejudiced, prideful dr is not a team player nor a trusted colleague!
Yes
Beneath the so called "mindful and concerned exterior" lies the prejudiced, narrow minded person
It's incredible, on the surface everything Dr. Han says sounds logical but when you think about it, he's incredibly prejudiced and manipulative while covering it up with his niceness and concern for Shaun.
I'm autistic myself and were I in this situation, I wouldn't have noticed how wrong this is and thought he's doing it for my own good.
People can be so prejudiced against us but at the same time we're doing our best and something like this is so insulting to our efforts to fit in when it takes so much energy to maintain.
Exactly
Han has the ability to Gaslight people.
If you think about it, Shaun is a great empath. He can comprehend others situations and also has great skills. So, how could he not be a great surgeon? He has great spatial skills, can think outside the box as well
A great doctor with immense medical expertise gets targeted for his interpersonal skills! Where Every Doctor should be producing and talking facts to patients.
Dr Han's character was controlling and Narcissistic.
Yes
Dr. Han was a leader and a real professional.
He used Shawn as a proxy donkey when he was needed. When Han needed an answer, he went to Shaun then told him to go back to his dog cage. Han was a poor excuse of a leader. Someone who is on the spectrum can learn to use social skills but it requires iron sharpening iron meaning he needs to be exposed to social situations.
No psychopath can relate to others emotions. He wants to save himself and to guarantee success through the mentality he learned that you should have through books.
Dr.Han will never care about how you feel! We will pretend to, then he would make decisions based on either social pressure, textbook conduct or selfish gain
Not only that Shaun did that to girl won’t stop talking too
The problem is Han's view he said if he can control not work with in the board meeting that is a red flag as a doctor you have to work with people it's not a one man team
That's only partly true. You can learn from observing other people's interactions and even from reading. Being in social situations certainly is the most effective and fastest way but it doesn't give you the answers how the interaction would've gone between neurotypical people.
When you don't understand other people, you have to first observe them so that you can mimic them and over time you learn the best ways and it gets easier.
Han isn't a Leader, he's a Manager, we learned this in Nursing school
Dr Han's downfall is that he acknowledges Dr Murphy's autistic flaws over his talent.
Everytime he always ask Zdr Murphy on a complex matter but deters him from advancement and growth opportunity to be a surgeon.
Actor did a fantastic job being a hypocrite 👏🤣
What I hate the most about this character is like he is doing it on purpose. He’s pushing him to lose control which is something that I hate and the fact that he is a doctor is even more frustrated.
Dr. Han broke the ada by demoting dr. Murphy. Unfortunately he was right about firing but it would never have happened if he didn’t break the ADA
And now Shaun is a Chief of Surgery 😀😀
Good
Yes I love it so much
Spoiler alert
3:10 proven wrong….when they fire you Dr. Han 😅
Lol Shaun proved him wrong multiple times, yet he never doubted his decision.
He pushed it to the point where his superiors could no longer sanction his judgment
Dr. Han was a psychopath, playing a role and trying to nail down the nail that sticks, Dr.Murphy!
The way he gestures, and the way he talks. He shows no panic, no remorse, no emotion. Autistic people have way more emotions than Dr.Han has.
It was a good thing he got fired! It sets a bad example for people that want to be emotional, and to be in high positions.
If Dr.Han would've stayed, people would've thought you needed to be emotionless to become a doctor.
He could be a sociopath.... Ig
But doesn't deny the fact that people like Han shouldn't be allowed to work in the medical field
Genuinely the only way I can put it, is 50/50 he was absolutely making the correct statements in calling out Shaun for his behavior and I think it genuinely helped him figure out how to talk to people later on.
If you actually want to help autistic people, be nicer about it and explain exactly what's wrong about the situation. Dr. Han definitely didn't do that.
"I think we'll both agree you are better there" -a psyco's words
first introduces the argument by saying "it would be nice" then comes out saying "no, you were a surgeon" forcing him.
Very bad, fired. 0 team menaging skills, they are people not robots.
He spent too much of his life socially engineering his paradise, until his overconfidence gave it away
tbf I think he thought of a pretty neat solution. They can get him in for surgery when needed. That would make a lot of sense
@@Coeus06 If he cared so much about not putting Shaun into difficult situations, that would have been a great proposal!
I believe Shaun would have gone along with it in the interest of productivity, and since it didn't go against his interests
I really love the recap, thanks
I don’t need the votes…..I love a man with power! I believe in going straight to who Makes The Decisions ‼️
Han judges the book by its cover so well. I don't like to work with the same character. He superego tells him he is better than everybody. But his character fits in this show to add more twist and drama
Dr. Han should have invested his efforts in learning to understand Dr. Murphy , accommodating the communication issue and finding a work-around for it instead of firing Dr. Murphy.
Aaah! I was mixing names! The older Dr. Is Dr. Han! Shame on him
I would rather know the truth than live within a lie. The medication could be at fault, simply stated. He never faulted the mother, her feelings nor their father's actually matter. They just want to push the blame onto someone else.
Dr Han broke my heart. He was a doctor. He should understand this boy better
I think Dr Han realises Dr Murphy is a better Dr than him.
I think so too.
He realises that he is a great doctor who chose the wrong speciality.
Let it be, he is a surgeon that makes him normal person since he admitted he was autism. That's an inspiration. Being rational is absolutely character of a kind called humane though we all thought of it as aliens because of
I dislike Dr. Han as a person but as a risk management officer he is solid!
Yeah, I respect him, but don't like him.
He decide to be the fire lord after being fired as a surgeon
When Shaun dx is correct Han doesn't congratulate DOCTOR Murphy
Hate the character? Love the actor
Love how Johnny Gat & Wei were on the same show 🔥
the only thing I have to say about Dr.Han is, HE'S SOOO CREEEEPY.
seriously what the fuck is wrong with him(Dr. Han)
I agree with Dr Han tho but i also think he needs to adapt accordingly
He already knows Dr Shuan is different. So why not the enforce the Same standard with a difference approach?
I also think the same..
I find it hilarious that he knows what's wrong yet he still treats him like that you know where his shortcomings are coming from you know why he behaves the way he behaves yet you're still choosing to mistreat and belittle him versus trying to adapt and teach him what's the point he's so convinced that he won't change and that he can't learn he's not even bothering to try so he comes off as a dick who never wants to try to teach me about anything and then shutting someone else down for trying to do what you are supposed to do by saying they should pay attention to their own shortcomings is crazy are we not a team work together don't isolate your teammates because you don't like the way they function don't isolate your teammates because you don't like the way they function this is people pointing out that despite your limitations you should be able to strive for any job that you want it's not like he doesn't have the brains for the job he lacks social cues which you could try to teach it I'm not saying that he was a bad doctor he was a good doctor he was a bad mentor he was set up for failure as soon as he was put in this environment with Dr Han he was never going to see anything else and when Sean had the mental breakdown he's going to make absolutely sure that despite saying that oh just improve and I'll let you he's treating this grown man like a child if I keep telling you I'm going to let you do something you'll leave me alone
@sagitahakaevilbunny227 - holy cow... all that & ZERO punctuation? Too much trouble to try to dissect what you were saying.
@@sandijammes7761To me, the person was very upset and may be on the spectrum. They got the words out. Apparently you can figure out where the punctuation should be, so the message was delivered. I'm a retired science teacher with a doctorate in education, and recently came across info that makes me think that I, too, am on the spectrum.
But the mother should know the medication she's taking was harmful to her baby. If she wants more babies she should try and different antidepressant that wouldn't hurt a growing baby inside her
Hi, Valerie! I disagree. Forty years ago, obstetricians always advised the pregnant woman never to take any medication, that goes for cold medicine, too. They knew it was too much risk of harm to the baby. Shaun was correct to search out the cause of the damage done to the baby. I applaud his courage!
@@kathierouse6046 I’m confused. It sounds like you agree with OP’s post as she also states it’s important to know what was the cause
Diversity and Inclusion while berating a differently abled doctor right
The issue is that Shaun is direct and humans aren’t wired to accept direct honesty. He’s not bad at communicating to patients, he has poor “social” skills. Humans aren’t able to just look the truth head on for some reason…so the neurotypical dance around the truth and say others are weird for standing in it.
I'd love a direct doctor, not one who lies to make us feel better
@@Cynthia-qu1cx unfortunately, most people in those situations are wayyyy too emotional to accept that type of honesty in the moment. They may lash out and make matters worse. Doctors have to weight so much when delivering information.
han thinks so high of himself, what goes up must go down.
Bro he was very biased tho lets be honest hes just a dick who didnt want someone to try and never even tried to find a way to help shawn just work there instead kept trying to get rid of him well seeming like a professional
Han just felt the absolute pressure of having a genious at his side, this could ofuscate him, he wanted to be the "badass doc gonna save everyone hell yeah", just my opinion tho
Glad he roasted Morgan, she always blames Shaun for her stupidity 3:27
I hated her at the beginning just for that but I've grown to like her😂
They're just simply operating without anyone wearing a mask!?!?!?
Well.. I’m still on my way to the end of the series. I can’t help to watch short clips here. But damn who hired this asshole to this hospital. Such a jerk! Stop mistreating Shaun!
He was good but to arrogant. Not willing to learn or accept change .
He was right, saying he couldn't control his staff. He was wrong about everything else. I personally have had no bedside manner doctors. I would have sent Dr. Han packing.
Dr. Han is a fantastic character.
I agree! To be able to mimic a psychopath's behavior so we'll, you have to be a good actor.
Mr Han is very vindictive
If I would have had the money or resources. I would have liked to become a surgeon. I have the most Steady & Accurate hands I’ve ever seen. Not to brag just a fact. Well atleast the best I’ve ever seen
Dr Han wasn't right....Shaun is a great Sturgeon
Hail fire lord Han
Doctor's can be such jerks!!! He is biased towards Shaun!! 💉
I don’t see how Han was a bad guy can someone explain
Dr. Han is very logical and orthodox in his view. Instead of looking at Shaun flaws and attempting through time and error to see if his flaws are limits. He immediately went to cut the leg and say he was done. You also see by the way peers defended Shaun and his animosity towards anything he viewed against "loyalty" and the control of his staff. Dr. Han could have handled things far better. He is correct in many things but the methods used I would argue are borderline discriminatory
Please what's the name of this movie, I would love to watch it.
You can't believe this Dr. Shaun. He steals other Doctors idea!
I meant Dr. Han steals Other Doctors Ideas!!!!
😭😭❤️❤️ I like marvi 😭😭❤️❤️👍👍👏👏
One word for his character arogent
I don’t like Dr Han
Facts
Me neither, but someone of his character is respected.
My ex wife's father had similar characteristics like Han.
A bit cold, but made decisions based on what was rational over emotional.
Womp womp
Who does?
@@isabelarachitan8537Me
It's one thing to be skeptical and critical; but Han was overbearing, arrogant, and short sighted. In short, he's a politician.
Was he targeting Shaun? Yes. Was it out of some form of bigotry? No. He felt critical skills necessary to caring for a patient were missing from Shaun and he was right.
But did he work with his employee to improve him or kick him to the side the second he felt he wouldn't improve. As Chief he failed and the second he had any opposition instead of looking at himself and his view of those under him.
knowing he had autism, he took that it was a permanent limiter and pretty much gave up on him, even though this video alone shows his autism helped 4 patients.
He is a good doctor? yes, but by the end he says to “control his team” instead of working together with them, a very closed-minded and cold analysis mentality only.
he cares for his patients, but not for the person at the same time, if that makes sense to you
No he was not right
Is Han Simu Liu from Kim's convenience?
Not simu liu. Daniel Dae Kim
Bedside manners are important.
Communication is important.
These are stuff that may make the difference between life and death.
Shaun definitely needed to learn that he is not the center of the world. And he had to learn how to behave accordingly as a medical professional.
Shaun was treated as if he could do no wrong and that if he did something bad then it's fine because "he's autistic" . Like... It doesn't matter if someone is neurotypical or not. Actions have consequences and people in healthcare field have responsibilities.
Shaun was smart and he was skilled at doing surgery.
BUT.
The way he was arrogant, had ego, was extremely bad at communicating with his team and with patients, and acted as if he could do no wrong, was making him a liability.
Han placed him in pathology. There Shaun could exercise his ability to communicate with his team better. Sometimes it's better to be in pathology for a bit, and after personal improvement he could eliminate the factors that made him liability, and he could become better surgeon.
And the other doctors indeed were making light of his condition. Excusing his behaviour was what they did. Which is wrong.
Bruh Shaun wasn't arrogant in any way at this point.
Haven't seen the good doctor, but from this video I completely agree with Dr. Han.
I definitely disagree with the firing of Dr. Han. I believe everything he did, he did with the best interest of the hospital, patients, AND Dr. Murphy in mind. I understand the premise of this show and what it’s trying to prove, but communication is a massive factor in that field. If I was a father and was told my wife’s anti-depressants are the reason for my daughters birth defect when that had no relation to the medical case I’d probably want to fight said man. The position Dr. Han was in, was an incredibly difficult one, and I don’t believe either Dr. Han or Dr. Murphy are the good/bad guy.
Completely understandable. My kid was diagnosed with a strange disease. The autistic doctor said it's from the protein shakes, cruletein and heavy meat consumption. He was blunt and direct. Then he mention a few things about our other diets and activities. Me and my husband did not get mad at all. Now we know to reduce his intake and alter our personal diets so our son will be ok.
Emotions don't need to be in medical fields only a minimal amount. We already have robots taking over that field which will never have emotional responses at all.
The future in medicine is robots and autistic people
Knowing that the medication you were taking hurt your child may not be relevant to helping with this child but what about your next child. As heart breaking as hearing that would be I would rather hear it then have my next child have the same condition that would have been stopped by me switching medications.
Love the actor, hate the character. Dude's a good doctor, but a shit person from what i've seen. And considering i first saw and heard him as Johnny Gat of the Third Street Saints, i kept expecting him to pull a combat knife and start stabbing people who pissed him off! 🤣🤣
Dr Han is Asian so he’s the best doctor ever.
NO 😭😭😭😂😂😂🫡
As an autistic, I really feel like they really need to stop casting neurotypicals as autistic people. Whenever Shaun talks it feels like he's mocking.
It's not as bad as the movie Music, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
So, exactly how many actors satisfy your criteria. By definition, a person like this actors portrait, would by definition, NEVER be able to be an actor...for the very reasons that the diagnosis carries.
There are a whole host of actors who portray people with staggering challenges. Due to those challenges it is nearly impossible for the individuals portrayed to have ever become actors. Someone with a staggering neurological disorder IS NOT going to become an actor. Even if they were possible, they would be relegated to portraying characters that had staggering challenges. That's called life. We all confront challenges because there is actually no such thing as neurological. Development is a spectrum....all components of life are varied across the human species. Fluffy will never portay Jesse Owen's. Taylor Swift will never portray Oprah. Oprah will never portray John Glenn. It is highly unlikely that anyone suffering a similar ailment as Steven Hawking will portray Steven Hawking....because they are much more likely to be focused upon survival because they lack the support Hawking had and because the ailment is so rare that there may no one who can do it OR WANTS TO.
@@xavariusquest4603yeah this was pretty much my thought on the Op comment too. Some conditions don’t allow people to be performers and therefore cannot represent themselves.
This is what being an ACTOR entails.....
I'm also autistic and I'm not sure if many of us could even be actors but they should at least have an autistic consultant so that the portrayal is as accurate as possible.
@@xavariusquest4603You do realise there are more and more disabled actors now, right?
I've especially seen a few with Down Syndrome now so it is possible. It certainly depends on the severity of the disability but most of us aren't bedbound and can still live relatively normal lives.
The greater issue I believe is that it's easier to work with nondisabled people where the production team doesn't have to be aware of any limitations.
Han was never in the wrong
Hes the sigma 🤫🧏
because normal adults need to be snuggled in a blanket of stupidity instead of the cold light-of-day reality check. It hurts their soft delecate puppy feeling.
Very true. Main reason people like elon musk and Jeff bezos was able to scale up their businesses to levels we never seen before. They solved the small business and convenience issue all at once.
They didn't play with emotions much when running their businesses
Very well said.
I see a lot people dissing Han. Unfortunately in work he is right. I work in construction engineer section, and if we see person like Murphy doing this, we will fire him on the spot and scold him to the ground
There is no money, nor time to waste on people like him, when one mistakes caused thousands to millions. Project engineer or doctor does not care how kany hard work you are, if youre not a good fit, hard work will not changed manager decision.
As Han daid, without communication, we wont need you at all. Losing in temper or communicatjon problem, we rather change to another person.
Again, hardwork will not bring you ti anywhere if you are not suitable. You can brag how hard you work on, but nobodg will give a damn.
This is just a tv show, and dr Han will only stays in real life, not Dr Murphy.
Dr. Han - Tries to give Shaun a position where he'd probably be a better fit, even taking note of Shaun's poor social/empathy skills
Shaun - Rejects every offer
The show tried to write a villain, but in the real world Dr. Han would be the protagonist.
I think you missed the bit where a surgeon was forced out of his speciality.
If bad interpersonal skills disqualified one from being a surgeon I think we might have trouble recruiting for the cutting people up brigade.
@@ivarsigI think you missed a lot too.. 3:34
@@stockyork8002 why did you link to the bit in the video where Dr Han was distracting other Doctors in the middle of an operation?
@ivarsig and he wasn't scrubbed in at all.
In the real world what Dr. Han did would be cause for a lawsuit. Under the ADA your boss can't discriminate against you because of your disability and this was just that. Besides, good social skills aren't necessary to be a good surgeon and they can actually be taught so helping him understand where Shaun went wrong would've been the much better route.
1 minute into the video and i already see what's wrong here, truth is truth, you can't sugar coat truth, even more on a position of a surgeon, you can't blame someone for telling the truth because someone can't handle it
Wow the comments. Han is correct. Murphy cannot control his emotions. NO HOSPITAL WOULD EVER ALLOW HIM TO BE A SURGEON IN A ROOM...If he has an episode in theater he could kill someone instantly.
That said, a hospital COULD employ him as a consulting surgeon because HE DOES SEE THINGS IN A REMARKABLY CREATIVE MANNER. His utility would be a huge benefit.
BUT THAT IS NOT THE ROLE THEY DESIGNED FOR HIM. HE HAS TO GO. AND NO REAL HOSPITAL WOULD HAVE HIRED HIM.
Alot of hospitals hire people like Dr Murphy to perform the most difficult surgeries. The lack of emotions help them focus directly on the saving life over the judgement issue of how the family will feel.
Grown people need to know the blunt truth. Not all this soft cuddly stuff to make everyone feel better
If an incompetent doctor has their head up their butt they could kill someone instantly as well, what a remarkable similarity.
Actually hospitals have no other choice but to employ him since not doing so would be discriminating him for his disability and there are laws against that.
Besides, he can control himself most of the time and even neurotypical people have times when they can't control their emotions.
He doesn't just have an "episode" at random, there are reasons why that happens and with help from colleagues and the management those can usually be avoided. And of course people can work on themselves so that their meltdowns or shutdowns happen less frequently over time.
Did you forget that he is a savant?
I don t like him too
Han was right in that diversity and inclusion gives way to the worst of the dregs of society to settle where they shouldn't belong. Shaun was just an exception, and even then he was highly unprofessional. Han was not completely wrong about him. His comdition is no excuse for unprofessionalism
3:35 is a great example of how Dr.Han is the ultimate chad and should be an idol for all young men to look up to. Witty remarks, cohesive grammar and sentences, chiseled jawline and impressively masculine cheekbones. He is the ultimate man. He walks with an air of confidence that only a true alpha man could have. He can walk into a room, say nothing and his glorious presence still booms louder than any words. He is him.
He’s also arrogant and a bit selfish, a great man should be humble and hands on, unlike Han
Some great man. He made a snap judgement about Shaun and his capabilities. And by the time the series finale came, it showed that Shaun proved Dr. Han wrong in every way possible. Han didn't believe Shaun had what it took to become an attending, a mentor, a teacher, and Shaun blew those judgements out of the park by becoming Chief of Surgery, head of a Foundation, a proven attending who trained great surgeons himself, a husband, and a father. A great man knows when to admit he is wrong. Han never did no matter how much Shaun showed him up
Zip it up when your done
Alpha males overlook a lot of the subtler symptoms that women pick up on.
Dr Han is an arrogant bully. An asshole.
