Its a shame dr house would've loved shaun on his team the difference between house and shaun is that shaun dosen't understand social cues while house dosen't care about them
I could see him sending Shaun to the patients’ homes. He’d be perfect to analyze the environments. I could also see the two walking to HR together or having joint meeting.
He most certainly was. He was babying him and telling him he would let him take on more responsibilities as he went and I hate that, that's discrimination. Sorry, a bit passionate, I'm autistic with a severe panic disorder and I always have fought through this. Not just me but my best friend too, shes also autistic and works in Healthcare, she has worked so hard to get where she is.❤had to edit, I believe Han said we can work up to more responsibilities, that's so degrading.
Dr Han was a pragmatist and, pragmatically, Shaun was not a correct fit for a surgeon. Dr Glassman, on the other hand, sees Shaun intuitively and knows he is.
As far as the first clip, the parents deserved the truth. I just went through a situation where a doctor didn't tell me the risks of a medication wasn't told to me when I was in labor and it put my daughter's life at risk. My daughter stopped breathing because of meds they gave me without telling me the risks. Parents deserve the truth. They asked he answered.
Also what frustates me about this case is that the parents asked directly...i mean, at the start they asked in general like "what could had cause this?" and Shaun explained that most cases had unknown reasons, then they asked "our Dr. had tell us that the antidepressives had nothing to do with it, but we don't know if she is trying to protect us" and THEN was when Shaun explained that there was one study that made a relation between the two. I mean...they asked directly! Shaun wasn't shouting different random theories like before, they asked!
Dr. Shaun care about the future, never hides the truth of your sickness anyway. You have the mind Dr. Han but Dr. Shaun perceived the new future of humanity in terms of medical terminology and different treatment.
I think he wanted to do the right thing, he wasn't wrong in saying to Shaun that he couldn't control his emotions, he was wrong in not recognizing his talent and the fact that he was a good surgeon.
He wants to put him down and wants to keep him down. Dr. Glassman told him to fight for his job. The board asked him him why he wanted to be a surgeon. If he had wanted to be in pathology, he could have done that himself.
Warning a mother that taking certain drugs puts a childs health at risk is absolutely important to potential make then aware of potential things to watch out for in any potential future pregnancies. The mother should not have taken the blane onto herself but any doctor she saw during the pregnancy that knew she took medication that could cause complications and did not inform them.
I've met some great surgeons that had crappy bedside manner. And not very good surgeons that had terrific verbal skills but crap outcomes. After many many surgeries I'd pick the first, and I've had both.
@@scribe712 Because in life you don't get what you want. It's either a good surgeon with bad bedside manners. Or a bad one with good bedside. I would chose a good surgeon. Don't get me wrong that person would be a dick but at least I'll live with full function.
@@scribe712because nobody is perfect & will have shortcomings 🤷🏽♂️ you must be young I’m glad you still have this outlook on life but people with more life experience (especially with surgeries) know that getting the best of both worlds is rarely the case & life is about yin & yang.. the world would be better if everything was perfect but it’s not & will never be sadly
He used Shawn as a proxy donkey when he was needed. When Han needed an answer, he went to Shaun then told him to go back to his dog cage. Han was a poor excuse of a leader. Someone who is on the spectrum can learn to use social skills but it requires iron sharpening iron meaning he needs to be exposed to social situations.
No psychopath can relate to others emotions. He wants to save himself and to guarantee success through the mentality he learned that you should have through books. Dr.Han will never care about how you feel! We will pretend to, then he would make decisions based on either social pressure, textbook conduct or selfish gain
The problem is Han's view he said if he can control not work with in the board meeting that is a red flag as a doctor you have to work with people it's not a one man team
That's only partly true. You can learn from observing other people's interactions and even from reading. Being in social situations certainly is the most effective and fastest way but it doesn't give you the answers how the interaction would've gone between neurotypical people. When you don't understand other people, you have to first observe them so that you can mimic them and over time you learn the best ways and it gets easier.
@@elenanash8081 Actually they stick around for many years, because these doctors are very good at hiding their rotten personality. Plus people protect them, purely because they appear intelligent.
It's incredible, on the surface everything Dr. Han says sounds logical but when you think about it, he's incredibly prejudiced and manipulative while covering it up with his niceness and concern for Shaun. I'm autistic myself and were I in this situation, I wouldn't have noticed how wrong this is and thought he's doing it for my own good. People can be so prejudiced against us but at the same time we're doing our best and something like this is so insulting to our efforts to fit in when it takes so much energy to maintain.
Exactly Han has the ability to Gaslight people. If you think about it, Shaun is a great empath. He can comprehend others situations and also has great skills. So, how could he not be a great surgeon? He has great spatial skills, can think outside the box as well
Then you have those of us in our late 30s early 40s who had a late life diagnosis, or myself diagnosed with Extreme ADHD, and had so many people use it as an excuse. Instead of helping us learn things like common sense (me) they said "oh well it's the ADHD, that's about the best your gonna get." They limit us from potentials. I wasn't diagnosed with Autism until my late 20s early 30s. No one realized I have sensory issues. Using our LDs or CDs as an excuse to even give us a chance. Thankfully my mom didn't act like this but MANY teachers and school administrators did. No one could understand why I could never do the homework but Ace my tests.
as far as i can tell, dr han refuses to adjust to what shaun needs in order to communicate. he knows exactly how autism works and refuses to see from his point of view and is only capable of bullying his way through conversations. he shows this in previous interactions when he interacts with other people and they have to be the ones that adjusts to him. communication goes both ways and dr han refuses to even go half way, resulting in shaun having an increasingly hard time communicating with dr han properly until the firing scene. what an ass.
He was also very antagonistic and rude to everyone, not just because of Sean's autism. He just showed up and expected everyone to dance at his song (literally)
When you hate a character so much on a show that you realize the actor has done an amazing job acting to make you feel that way about a certain character. Daniel Dae Kim is an a amazing actor 👍🏽
by ADA requires that you cannot fire someone who has a difficulty bassed on a disability if they can do it with "raesonable accemidations" accomedations".
Han judges the book by its cover so well. I don't like to work with the same character. He superego tells him he is better than everybody. But his character fits in this show to add more twist and drama
A great doctor with immense medical expertise gets targeted for his interpersonal skills! Where Every Doctor should be producing and talking facts to patients. Dr Han's character was controlling and Narcissistic.
What I hate the most about this character is like he is doing it on purpose. He’s pushing him to lose control which is something that I hate and the fact that he is a doctor is even more frustrated.
as far as i can tell, dr han refuses to adjust to what shaun needs in order to communicate. he knows exactly how autism works and refuses to see from his point of view and is only capable of bullying his way through conversations. he shows this in previous interactions when he interacts with other people and they have to be the ones that adjusts to him. communication goes both ways and dr han refuses to even go half way, resulting in shaun having an increasingly hard time communicating with dr han properly until the firing scene. what an ass. it would not surprise me if he did that all intentionally to have cause to fire him because he doesn't want to work with him. he already blackmailed the medical board to get his way
From my experiences in Medicine, people like Dr Han are very common. They intentionally do it on purpose. I am not sure why. I think people like Dr Han want to harm people? Anyway, I find it very repulsive when a doctor tries to judge another doctor who does not harm to them. I personally care about patients and I also care about other doctors. But people like Dr Han are very common, and they cause so much harm. I see innocent doctors get walked all over, and they do not realise that some doctors are dictionary definition psychopaths.
Me as a parent with a child with communication issues, very smart, understand what he's going through. My child as an adult gets looked differently. He truly reminds me of my child ❤❤❤. Asperger's and chronic heart failure. Thank you for this show 🙏❤️
I wish the Dr Han storyline was an episode or two longer As some people argue both ways about who was in the wrong , whereas if it was longer it could bring more clarity
This asshole switched him to the pathology department, but the team kept asking for his help. But he wasn't allowed back on the team. I'm glad he was fired for abusing Shaun.
To be honest Han was probably being too lenient. Very weird show. They're trying so hard to make him look like the bad guy and yet it never quite comes off that way.
I haven’t seen nearly enough of this show or Dr. Han to give a full opinion, but I very much see where Dr. Han is coming from. With Shaun’s diagnosis and difficulties without that support net, he’s truly a liability to no fault of his own. He clearly targeted Shaun, but his reasoning is not entirely wrong. Shaun has undeniable skills in certain areas but struggles in the communication portion that is essential for the job.
Dr. Han should have invested his efforts in learning to understand Dr. Murphy , accommodating the communication issue and finding a work-around for it instead of firing Dr. Murphy.
Dr. Han kept saying Dr. Murphy wouldn’t make a good surgeon because he couldn’t communicate well. Communication is not just the ability to speak but also the ability to listen. Murphy can listen to the patient and he sees the condition. Han just talks and talks and talks.
Realitingly this Dr. Shaun wants the other good Dr Han fired! As a view, I already hate him. Yes you do! What has Autism got to do with being a good Doctor?
Dr.Han knows talking will get you far, but he cannot relate to anybody. He knows how to punch people down, because he is a psychopath. And no, he is not a sociopath. I know the difference.
Shaun has shit communication skills. Communication is extremely vital for the healthcare team and patient. Proper communication or lack of it can make the difference between life and death for your patient.
I had a couple of SOBs like that out to get me fired during my residency. They failed every time because some amazing, brilliant people stood up for me. So I can definitely relate to Shaun. And I've saved quite a number of folks because I refused to go into anesthesiology or radiology. Of course, that's where the big bucks actually lie, so maybe I wasn't so fortunate after all.
"I think we'll both agree you are better there" -a psyco's words first introduces the argument by saying "it would be nice" then comes out saying "no, you were a surgeon" forcing him. Very bad, fired. 0 team menaging skills, they are people not robots.
@@Coeus06 If he cared so much about not putting Shaun into difficult situations, that would have been a great proposal! I believe Shaun would have gone along with it in the interest of productivity, and since it didn't go against his interests
Let it be, he is a surgeon that makes him normal person since he admitted he was autism. That's an inspiration. Being rational is absolutely character of a kind called humane though we all thought of it as aliens because of
I think if Sean didn't have multiple melt downs during surgeries he could be a surgeon. He can diagnose very well but he should not be a surgeon. Peoples lives should not be put below coddling someone. The bed side stuff doesn't really matter.
Lol Shaun proved him wrong multiple times, yet he never doubted his decision. He pushed it to the point where his superiors could no longer sanction his judgment
I agree with Dr Han tho but i also think he needs to adapt accordingly He already knows Dr Shuan is different. So why not the enforce the Same standard with a difference approach?
Dr Han's downfall is that he acknowledges Dr Murphy's autistic flaws over his talent. Everytime he always ask Zdr Murphy on a complex matter but deters him from advancement and growth opportunity to be a surgeon. Actor did a fantastic job being a hypocrite 👏🤣
Dr. Han was a psychopath, playing a role and trying to nail down the nail that sticks, Dr.Murphy! The way he gestures, and the way he talks. He shows no panic, no remorse, no emotion. Autistic people have way more emotions than Dr.Han has. It was a good thing he got fired! It sets a bad example for people that want to be emotional, and to be in high positions. If Dr.Han would've stayed, people would've thought you needed to be emotionless to become a doctor.
What I find interesting about your comment is that your description of Dr. Han is a direct mirror of how he was describing Dr. Murphy. Maybe he, too, was unknowingly on the autistic spectrum. (Just a thought.)
I see what happened. The old Dr guy told him to be assertive and take it back and that is what he was trying to do he just didn't know how to do it properly. That is why he looked like he freaked out even though he wasn't really... he was just doing the only thing he knew to make his point across and not take no for an answer, it always worked that way with the old Dr.
The point is its too late. So telling the mom does literally nothing other than ruin her for the rest of her life. When not telling her will help her get over it.
@@popermen694 The mother should be told to protect future pregnancies and she should be mad at the doctor that didn't tell her the risks of the antidepressants not at Shaun or herself. "The Truth shall set you free" is in the Bible for a reason. Hiding the truth doesn't help people, it can harm them. She can sue her doctors during the pregnancy for not warning her of dangerous side effects and protect any future pregnancies and other patients/unborn babies by making her case public because many people take antidepressants so they should know to stop them during pregnancy to protect innocent babies.
But the mother should know the medication she's taking was harmful to her baby. If she wants more babies she should try and different antidepressant that wouldn't hurt a growing baby inside her
Hi, Valerie! I disagree. Forty years ago, obstetricians always advised the pregnant woman never to take any medication, that goes for cold medicine, too. They knew it was too much risk of harm to the baby. Shaun was correct to search out the cause of the damage done to the baby. I applaud his courage!
@@valeriemogene9229 I'm sorry for the confusion, Valerie. I brought up 2 issues in the same paragraph. I should have separated them. Regarding replacement of the med that caused bad effects, I was saying that instead of a different med, the md could try a natural method. Now for the second issue...I thought Shaun did the right thing checking the lady's purse since she wasn't awake to ask her if she was taking a certain drug. What he did was right because her life was in trouble. I hope I have cleared up the confusion. Have a blessed week, Val! 😊🤗
Genuinely the only way I can put it, is 50/50 he was absolutely making the correct statements in calling out Shaun for his behavior and I think it genuinely helped him figure out how to talk to people later on.
If you actually want to help autistic people, be nicer about it and explain exactly what's wrong about the situation. Dr. Han definitely didn't do that.
@@hsbdbsjsjebbdbsbsb370 How is explaining what's wrong special treatment? It can happen to anyone to not understand a situation and needing help to figure it out. Besides, compensating for a disability is definitely not special treatment, it's the minimum required of workplaces.
@@hsbdbsjsjebbdbsbsb370 Actually yes, he can be a doctor because in the US workplaces (and any other business for that matter) aren't allowed to discriminate based on disability. They either have to accept him as he is or find a way to compensate for his disability. I'm pretty sure it's also unlawful to change his speciality as that's based on discrimination too and you can't force anyone to change their job.
He throws a temper tantrum when he doesn’t get what he wants lmfao. Yeah no he shouldn’t be allowed to practice medicine. Just bc it’s not fair doesn’t mean it’s the wrong decision.
Even if they're unreachable and powerful knowing their intelligence but on the other side of the persona there is JEALOUSY in our system.that we don't know exist when we are already in our peak. He is jealous of Shawn's intellect without Dr. Han knowing that is why unconciously he is unsure of himself when Dr. Shaun is around because Dr. Shaun without regard will speak an honest opinion that no one can disregard.
Han was right for firing Shaun. For all his skill, Shaun has had too many instances where he endangered patients' lives. Just like a person with bad eyesight shouldn't be a pilot, Shaun shouldn't be a surgeon. I have no idea how people see Han as the bad guy in this situation.
1. well shawn's the MC 2. his weaknesses can be overcome with time and effort which he has given 3. compared to the 1st episode shawn is quite better at communicating and he continues improving in the later seasons 4. as shown in the the video shawn's ability to come up with unique ideas no one would have is far too great to ignore (even tho your comparison is bad but if someone with bad eyesight can perfectly fly the plane even in stressful situations and can catch small details not even normal pilots would i see no reason why that person shouldn't be a pilot) this is just another point of view you're not wrong in thinking Han was right it is a sign of good writing
This Show was so good. Always drew me back. Not many shows do these days. Sorry to see it go. I hope there’s a way to bring the actors back in some other show. Perhaps episodes that goes back in time with each character. . Shaun and his brother was a very good story. 😊
0:00 If communication and social skills were the issues, many doctors would be fired according to the situation of this episode. Medical practitioners are not social workers. We all have different gifts that are complimentary to others' talents. Professional Jealousy among team members creates a toxic working environment and negatively impact the services provided to patients. Bullies as played by Dr. Han's character oftentimes try diminishing the most talented person in the background and uses the person's intelligence to make themselves shine. The threat heightens when the person refuses to be put in a box and spoon feed their knowledge only when asked. Dr. Shaun was right to speak up for himself because Dr. Han would have destroyed him and the surgical team, and more importantly, the patients would get substandard care. Silencing Dr. Murphy, the surgeon, is mostly to benefit Dr. Han's going career.@brownwolf5766
I don't feel what Han did was wrong. His assessment was not due to personal bias, it was professional and objective judgment. While Shaun is good in diagnostic and in the OR, in terms of the full scope of a surgeon, he was lacking. He objectively considered Shaun strengths and weaknesses and placed him into a role that best fits his abilities. Shaun had shown bad communication skills on many occasions, causing problems for the dept, Han shown recognition when a staff did well but critic when they did wrong. Shaun was not able to control his emotion, was aggressive and stubborn while Han still given him a chance. Yes, he has Autism, but while everyone does like him, he has his limitations, Shaun tends to have people giving in to him and have things go his way throughout the show disregarding if he is actually in the right just because people know he has limitations. Han was simply treating and judging him on the standard of any surgeon if he did not have autism, no one would bat an eye what he did was wrong but because he has autism, everyone is cuddling up to him and expect Han to provide special treatment which would not had been fair to any average others. However, because he is the main character, many just decided that Han was an asshole.
@@macmcleod1188 i don't disagree with that, the thing is, Shaun is good with diagnostic and bad with communication. So Han placed him in a position that best utilized his skills, Shaun have shown over and over again his challenges affects the hospital ops while his diagnostic capabilities is fantastic. Han, as a boss, utilized his staff talent to their best fit and reduce giving hospital problem due to Shaun challenges. On a professional level, what Han did was not wrong and was greatly professional. Shaun on the other hand was not professional but got his way.
What do people even want him to do ? Take no action on a surgeon who walked away mid surgery ?? He didn't even fire the dude like he should have and just moved him to a field that's more suitable to him. Shaun would have been fired in real life and it would be perfectly understandable. He shouldn't do the job if he is messing up that bad especially when a person's life is involved
I would rather a doctor that's honest and attentive than one that sugarcoats bs. Tell me what it looks like is wrong and how you plan to fix it. When something goes wrong tell me and find a new way. Rather have shaun or house than Han.
I find it hilarious that he knows what's wrong yet he still treats him like that you know where his shortcomings are coming from you know why he behaves the way he behaves yet you're still choosing to mistreat and belittle him versus trying to adapt and teach him what's the point he's so convinced that he won't change and that he can't learn he's not even bothering to try so he comes off as a dick who never wants to try to teach me about anything and then shutting someone else down for trying to do what you are supposed to do by saying they should pay attention to their own shortcomings is crazy are we not a team work together don't isolate your teammates because you don't like the way they function don't isolate your teammates because you don't like the way they function this is people pointing out that despite your limitations you should be able to strive for any job that you want it's not like he doesn't have the brains for the job he lacks social cues which you could try to teach it I'm not saying that he was a bad doctor he was a good doctor he was a bad mentor he was set up for failure as soon as he was put in this environment with Dr Han he was never going to see anything else and when Sean had the mental breakdown he's going to make absolutely sure that despite saying that oh just improve and I'll let you he's treating this grown man like a child if I keep telling you I'm going to let you do something you'll leave me alone

Okay, I will say it, Dr. Han was right. Pathology was a better place for Shaun. He could work in diagnostics without having to interact with the patients or perform the surgery himself.
I would rather know the truth than live within a lie. The medication could be at fault, simply stated. He never faulted the mother, her feelings nor their father's actually matter. They just want to push the blame onto someone else.
But the truth doesnt do anything? He brought up a unproven hypothetical with no evidance aside from it being a potential side effect. So he needlessly brought up a factor that could have been brought up at a later time becuase he cant help but say whatever he thinks of. Now the guardians are likely to be less willing to try a new procedure becuase the clinically prescribed medication may have caused the issue and they are in a bad state of mind
To be honest if Dr Shaun was my surgeon I'd ask for a different surgeon, he has no bedside manner. I mostly dealt with army doctors and if they needed to tell you something straight they would, if they needed to omit something they would, if they needed to bullshit so you wouldn't panic they would, if they needed to make a joke they would. A doctor with no interpersonal skills would just piss me off.
Han just felt the absolute pressure of having a genious at his side, this could ofuscate him, he wanted to be the "badass doc gonna save everyone hell yeah", just my opinion tho
I absolutely love these type of people who do exactly what they want and let no one stand in their way people think that their way is the right way they are wrong people mock what they do not understand everyone always say that is not normal, so you are different I like different .
How to be a Doctor Han: 1) Arrive at a new clinic as the head surgery manager and most importantly, DON'T LOOK INTO FILES OF THE PEOPLE THAT ARE WORKING FOR YOU. 2) Be surprised and angry when the autistic doctor is blunt and direct with patients (shocker, I know, I think that being in med school you would have to take a side in psychology to know that that's how autistic people work and perceive the world and even if not at this current year that's probably common or at least easily googlable knowledge) 3) Ask innapproriate questions during surgery to your other doctors and be disappointed when they get distracted because of it and screw something up. Proceed to shame them for it because they couldn't be focused and answer back their boss (their salary depends on him, so of course there's pressure to answer him even during surgery) 4) Ignore the ideas from your autistic doctor who is extremely interested in the case, wellbeing and the surgery going well, but you dismiss it because it didn't go well beforehand in another hospital (which is fine) but then continue with them without giving him any credit and move him to pathology instead because he can't communicate well (essentially, demote him for being autistic, how dare he be born with the autism which makes his speech bad, he can't be a surgeon if he can't bow to me and talk without stuttering a bit, even though everybody else understands it.) 5) Purpousefully rile your autistic doctor up in an attempt to make him angry because he dared not bow down to you when you were talking down on him 6) Take his ideas, but let him stay in pathology, how dare he speak against you, he's not supposed to do that. Even though he's great at surgery, he'll never be as great as you (even though you failed to see the points he made) 7) Demote him, even though he is technically doing work in your department (since you're accepting his ideas) and thus are not paying him for his labour (he's in a different department now, remember?) how dare he be autistic in front of my patients, they are going to look at me bad now, even though he's saving lives. TL:DR; Be openly discriminatory to your "underlings" for their conditions which they don't control like autism, be surprised and angry when they show the effects of those conditions, demote them for not bowing down to your every whim and request and focusing too much on the surgery side of things (even though you're the surgeon head), and accept unpaid labour from them if they offer it to you BUT don't offer an opportunity for them to come back afterwards. All in all, he deserved to get fired based on the unpaid labour part alone, the fact that he has a whole sheet of problems and issues with the department only a few months in after his arrival is enough to fire him immediately. If this were real life, Murphy might have not been able to come back as a surgeon, but he would be able to sue both the medical centre for discrimination based on autism, unpaid labour and emotional damages (imagine studying all your life to become a surgeon, only for your boss to say no because you're autistic and basically ruin your record for life)

Bedside manners are important. Communication is important. These are stuff that may make the difference between life and death. Shaun definitely needed to learn that he is not the center of the world. And he had to learn how to behave accordingly as a medical professional. Shaun was treated as if he could do no wrong and that if he did something bad then it's fine because "he's autistic" . Like... It doesn't matter if someone is neurotypical or not. Actions have consequences and people in healthcare field have responsibilities. Shaun was smart and he was skilled at doing surgery. BUT. The way he was arrogant, had ego, was extremely bad at communicating with his team and with patients, and acted as if he could do no wrong, was making him a liability. Han placed him in pathology. There Shaun could exercise his ability to communicate with his team better. Sometimes it's better to be in pathology for a bit, and after personal improvement he could eliminate the factors that made him liability, and he could become better surgeon. And the other doctors indeed were making light of his condition. Excusing his behaviour was what they did. Which is wrong.
Asian guy really professional, just what i would allow blissfully to handle my body even for failure. Not a ticking time bomb that would complain about handing angles and make em a bigger time nuisance.
I definitely disagree with the firing of Dr. Han. I believe everything he did, he did with the best interest of the hospital, patients, AND Dr. Murphy in mind. I understand the premise of this show and what it’s trying to prove, but communication is a massive factor in that field. If I was a father and was told my wife’s anti-depressants are the reason for my daughters birth defect when that had no relation to the medical case I’d probably want to fight said man. The position Dr. Han was in, was an incredibly difficult one, and I don’t believe either Dr. Han or Dr. Murphy are the good/bad guy.
Completely understandable. My kid was diagnosed with a strange disease. The autistic doctor said it's from the protein shakes, cruletein and heavy meat consumption. He was blunt and direct. Then he mention a few things about our other diets and activities. Me and my husband did not get mad at all. Now we know to reduce his intake and alter our personal diets so our son will be ok. Emotions don't need to be in medical fields only a minimal amount. We already have robots taking over that field which will never have emotional responses at all. The future in medicine is robots and autistic people
Knowing that the medication you were taking hurt your child may not be relevant to helping with this child but what about your next child. As heart breaking as hearing that would be I would rather hear it then have my next child have the same condition that would have been stopped by me switching medications.
So you'd rather your wife had another fucked up kid in the future because no one told her her pills affected the baby? How is that mother any different from s mother who forced her kid to train for hours and end up hurting her child? How about a father that refuses to believe his child is sick because he shows "no symptoms" You pay doctors to save lives, you pay psychologist to deal with the emotions of fucking up your children's lives

The issue is that Shaun is direct and humans aren’t wired to accept direct honesty. He’s not bad at communicating to patients, he has poor “social” skills. Humans aren’t able to just look the truth head on for some reason…so the neurotypical dance around the truth and say others are weird for standing in it.
@@Cynthia-qu1cx unfortunately, most people in those situations are wayyyy too emotional to accept that type of honesty in the moment. They may lash out and make matters worse. Doctors have to weight so much when delivering information.
Actually there's another kind of human who can look at the truth head on. Sociopaths and psychopaths. It's one of the reasons that business is dominated by people with that kind of personality. Because it's trivial for them to make the hard decisions. In fact, the hard decisions aren't hard for them at all.
Dr. Shaun's mentors and supervisors failed him by not limiting him from inflicting harm while he learns interaction skills. Like "Don't EVER tell the patient something she did caused this until you discuss it with me first." He CAN be taught to fake kindness end empathy. Hiring him makes them responsible for curtailing the emotional harm he unknowingly inflicts by providing better supervision and stricter guidelines, he's just been running his mouth amuck. He'll never truly understand empathy, they are supposed to give him do's/don'ts for the sake of their current and his future patients, not just give him a global pass because it doesn't come naturally. This isn't on Shaun or Hahn, it's on those who have been watching him doing damage and not stopped it.
Dr Han is deliberately triggering Shaun to have an Autistic meltdown and then says he is unstable, suspicious… Dr Han needs to be the smartest and most powerful person in the room. He achieves this with his intelligence but more importantly he uses shame to ‘teach’ people their place. With Shaun Dr Han isn’t smarter and he cannot shame Shaun because Shaun does not react to social cues. Shaun is Dr Han’s kryptonite. Dr Han also uses triangulation to separate Shaun from his supporters by making things about Shaun’s communication skills but if you pay attention Dr Han communicates horribly! He cannot inspire loyalty and this hurts him and so he can only go to fear. In the end Dr Han increasingly isolates Shaun until the hospital had to decide between him and Shaun. It probably never occurred to Dr Han that the hospital would choose Shaun. Dr Han figured he’d destroyed Shaun’s reputation irrevocably. But because Dr Han doesn’t understand friendships are not transactional he didn’t see that he was sealing his own fate. He’s a bully. And the most effective bullies do what Dr Han does, which is to subtly break down how you see yourself and others see you. He is all about being technically correct but has not sense of empathy or loyalty to anyone but himself. He must very much dislike himself to target, so surgically (pun intended) Shaun. I actually feel sorry for Dr Han. All of his closest relationships must have been extremely transactional and contingent on his successes :/ I don’t even watch this show and I’m in the comment section writing an essay on interpersonal relationships :D
He was right, saying he couldn't control his staff. He was wrong about everything else. I personally have had no bedside manner doctors. I would have sent Dr. Han packing.
I've had a number of surgeries, both major and minor. Of course it may be different, because none of my conditions were mysterious. But the very brief appearances made by the surgeons were little prepared rote introductions beforehand or 'we'll let you know the results' afterwards. I doubt they could have described my hair color or ethnicity 2 minutes after leaving the room. The longest speech I can remember one ever making is "Eat more fiber". I'm amazed surgeons on this show chit chat with their patients, much less get in trouble for it.
Well.. I’m still on my way to the end of the series. I can’t help to watch short clips here. But damn who hired this asshole to this hospital. Such a jerk! Stop mistreating Shaun!
Dr. Han is very logical and orthodox in his view. Instead of looking at Shaun flaws and attempting through time and error to see if his flaws are limits. He immediately went to cut the leg and say he was done. You also see by the way peers defended Shaun and his animosity towards anything he viewed against "loyalty" and the control of his staff. Dr. Han could have handled things far better. He is correct in many things but the methods used I would argue are borderline discriminatory
From before knowing Shaun he already disliked him for saying something to the mother about the pills, which she should have known since all pills come with a list of side effects or she should have told her doctors while pregnant. But he pinned the blame of their distress caused by their own ignorance on Shaun It doesn't get better from there since he only thinks of Shaun as an autistic creature that is below human, yet he takes every opportunity to use his intelect and hard earned skills to his benefit while insulting him to his face to the point he basically tells him "I don't like you in this job, so I changed your job,if you get mad its proof i was right"
as far as i can tell, dr han refuses to adjust to what shaun needs in order to communicate. he knows exactly how autism works and refuses to see from his point of view and is only capable of bullying his way through conversations. he shows this in previous interactions when he interacts with other people and they have to be the ones that adjusts to him. communication goes both ways and dr han refuses to even go half way, resulting in shaun having an increasingly hard time communicating with dr han properly until the firing scene. what an ass. he failed to ask why it's so important for shaun to be a surgeon, he failed to respect he's choice and instead forced him to go to pathology, he shoots down anyone's opinion on shaun both personal and professional, and every positive thing out of his mouth is manipulative with the goal of proving that he's own opinion is the only one that matters.
2:50 oh, he was SO wrong here... If he just was not that narrow minded andd a bit more like Melendez or Lim, he would recognize how much Shaun develops and that he is very great at what he is doing.
Me neither, but someone of his character is respected. My ex wife's father had similar characteristics like Han. A bit cold, but made decisions based on what was rational over emotional.
Was he targeting Shaun? Yes. Was it out of some form of bigotry? No. He felt critical skills necessary to caring for a patient were missing from Shaun and he was right.
But did he work with his employee to improve him or kick him to the side the second he felt he wouldn't improve. As Chief he failed and the second he had any opposition instead of looking at himself and his view of those under him.
knowing he had autism, he took that it was a permanent limiter and pretty much gave up on him, even though this video alone shows his autism helped 4 patients. He is a good doctor? yes, but by the end he says to “control his team” instead of working together with them, a very closed-minded and cold analysis mentality only. he cares for his patients, but not for the person at the same time, if that makes sense to you
It was a form of bigotry what the fuck are you talking about? A doctor is supposed to save your life, who fucking cares if he doesn't want to be hugged or doesn't look at your eyes, he was an ever piece of shit to all doctors around him but Shaun is the problem because he is honest?
@@Zerus1517 He gave Shaun a chance by redirecting him towards Pathology, which actually turned out to be a much better fit. When Shaun saved that female patient in Pathology, Han even publicly lauded him for saving the patient's life right in front of her. Looking at how Shaun ultimately reacted to his reassignment, it became pretty evident that he didn't possess the emotional stability required for high-stakes employment in a hospital. Do I agree with EVERYTHING he did whilst trying to navigate Shaun's unique disposition? No: he was rather cold at times. However, in the grand scheme of things, he's not this villain you're making him out to be.
@raymonddeflaviis2488 was he the villain no was he a good leader no as it wasn't just Shaun he put down it was anyone in his team even with Shaun's difficulties he still had patients wanting him more then I heard for Han sometimes the patients want honesty not false hope this gave them more clarity and just cause of a few occasions where a patient didn't like what he said he moved him they work in a high stakes job somethings Han does or says people aren't going to like but his expectations are he is chief therfore get over it what I say is law
Tbf communication is the most important trait a human needs the moment communication isnt good you will have problems daily and in this case shauns case would be very difficult wich only the nicest or most mature people can handle
His judgement about Shaun condition is accurate, but his wrong about Shaun potential to progress. He think Shaun Will never overcome comunication problem bcs he has autism
Its a shame dr house would've loved shaun on his team the difference between house and shaun is that shaun dosen't understand social cues while house dosen't care about them
I'd watch that show. House would get Shaun to do stuff for his kicks bc he doesn't understand social cues.
True 😂
Yes
I could see him sending Shaun to the patients’ homes. He’d be perfect to analyze the environments. I could also see the two walking to HR together or having joint meeting.
Let’s not pretend House wouldn’t intentionally mess with Shaun just to see how he would react.
He definitely cared about what he was doing but you can't deny that it seemed like he was targeting shaun from the start though.
He was
He most certainly was.
I believe that Dr. Han is also upset by Dr. Sean because he (Dr. Sean) has a better ability to diagnose some illnesses that Han did not recognize...

He went "this kid is limping, so I'll take off his leg and see if he's still happy to help me file my taxes
I see. Instead of isolating Shaun's character flaws, Dr. Han assumed it was it overall character. Correct?
@@tonyj9203 basically yes
He wants to put him down and wants to keep him down. Dr. Glassman told him to fight for his job. The board asked him him why he wanted to be a surgeon. If he had wanted to be in pathology, he could have done that himself.
He was wrong about every other aspect though so.
I'd prefer a great surgeon with good beside manner. Why should I as the patient have to settle for less than I deserve?

Not only that Shaun did that to girl won’t stop talking too
The problem is Han's view he said if he can control not work with in the board meeting that is a red flag as a doctor you have to work with people it's not a one man team
Han isn't a Leader, he's a Manager, we learned this in Nursing school
I agree with the firing of Dr Han...as a retired nurse, I know a prejudiced, prideful dr is not a team player nor a trusted colleague!

@@elenanash8081 Actually they stick around for many years, because these doctors are very good at hiding their rotten personality. Plus people protect them, purely because they appear intelligent.
You're right. In the end, I sense pride and arrogance with Han, and he would not budge and would die on that hill.
Exactly
Han has the ability to Gaslight people.

I wish the Dr Han storyline was an episode or two longer
As some people argue both ways about who was in the wrong , whereas if it was longer it could bring more clarity
han thinks so high of himself, what goes up must go down.
This asshole switched him to the pathology department, but the team kept asking for his help. But he wasn't allowed back on the team. I'm glad he was fired for abusing Shaun.
Yes
Han was the good guy
To be honest Han was probably being too lenient. Very weird show. They're trying so hard to make him look like the bad guy and yet it never quite comes off that way.
He. Fired him because deep down he has no trust in his ability as a doctor because of his Autism..

Dr Han's downfall is that he acknowledges Dr Murphy's autistic flaws over his talent.

He could be a sociopath.... Ig
But doesn't deny the fact that people like Han shouldn't be allowed to work in the medical field
What I find interesting about your comment is that your description of Dr. Han is a direct mirror of how he was describing Dr. Murphy. Maybe he, too, was unknowingly on the autistic spectrum.
(Just a thought.)

"I'll... take that masterful insight into consideration, thank you."

When Shaun dx is correct Han doesn't congratulate DOCTOR Murphy
@sagitahakaevilbunny227 - holy cow... all that & ZERO punctuation? Too much trouble to try to dissect what you were saying.
@@sandijammes7761To me, the person was very upset and may be on the spectrum. They got the words out. Apparently you can figure out where the punctuation should be, so the message was delivered. I'm a retired science teacher with a doctorate in education, and recently came across info that makes me think that I, too, am on the spectrum.
Daniel Dae Lewis a great actor and producer and Freddie Highmore is perfection. Dr. Han was prejudice towards Shaun and he was wrong.
He was good but to arrogant. Not willing to learn or accept change .
Okay, I will say it, Dr. Han was right. Pathology was a better place for Shaun. He could work in diagnostics without having to interact with the patients or perform the surgery himself.
Except, Shaun is an excellent surgeon
The sinister move by leaders to undermine brilliance of subordinate in itself is evil
The bully accuses Shaun of bullying. Typical gaslighting doctor.
Like he has no basis for the assertion aside from the possibility.
Love how Johnny Gat & Wei were on the same show 🔥
I absolutely love these type of people who do exactly what they want and let no one stand in their way people think that their way is the right way they are wrong people mock what they do not understand everyone always say that is not normal, so you are different I like different .
How to be a Doctor Han:
1) Arrive at a new clinic as the head surgery manager and most importantly, DON'T LOOK INTO FILES OF THE PEOPLE THAT ARE WORKING FOR YOU.
2) Be surprised and angry when the autistic doctor is blunt and direct with patients (shocker, I know, I think that being in med school you would have to take a side in psychology to know that that's how autistic people work and perceive the world and even if not at this current year that's probably common or at least easily googlable knowledge)
3) Ask innapproriate questions during surgery to your other doctors and be disappointed when they get distracted because of it and screw something up. Proceed to shame them for it because they couldn't be focused and answer back their boss (their salary depends on him, so of course there's pressure to answer him even during surgery)
4) Ignore the ideas from your autistic doctor who is extremely interested in the case, wellbeing and the surgery going well, but you dismiss it because it didn't go well beforehand in another hospital (which is fine) but then continue with them without giving him any credit and move him to pathology instead because he can't communicate well (essentially, demote him for being autistic, how dare he be born with the autism which makes his speech bad, he can't be a surgeon if he can't bow to me and talk without stuttering a bit, even though everybody else understands it.)
5) Purpousefully rile your autistic doctor up in an attempt to make him angry because he dared not bow down to you when you were talking down on him
6) Take his ideas, but let him stay in pathology, how dare he speak against you, he's not supposed to do that. Even though he's great at surgery, he'll never be as great as you (even though you failed to see the points he made)
7) Demote him, even though he is technically doing work in your department (since you're accepting his ideas) and thus are not paying him for his labour (he's in a different department now, remember?) how dare he be autistic in front of my patients, they are going to look at me bad now, even though he's saving lives.
If this were real life, Murphy might have not been able to come back as a surgeon, but he would be able to sue both the medical centre for discrimination based on autism, unpaid labour and emotional damages (imagine studying all your life to become a surgeon, only for your boss to say no because you're autistic and basically ruin your record for life)
Well said!❤
He decide to be the fire lord after being fired as a surgeon
I love how both Johnny Gat and Wei Shen are operating at this hospital. lmao
I dislike Dr. Han as a person but as a risk management officer he is solid!
Yeah, I respect him, but don't like him.
This is because Dr. Han is the definition of a manager and not a leader.
20:37 he went from the chad "heh... maybe i shouldn't be here then 🗿" to "w-wait are you actually gonna do that? 😳" lmfaoooo 🤣
Bro he was very biased tho lets be honest hes just a dick who didnt want someone to try and never even tried to find a way to help shawn just work there instead kept trying to get rid of him well seeming like a professional
Dr Han wasn't right....Shaun is a great Sturgeon
as far as i can tell, dr han refuses to adjust to what shaun needs in order to communicate. he knows exactly how autism works and refuses to see from his point of view and is only capable of bullying his way through conversations. he shows this in previous interactions when he interacts with other people and they have to be the ones that adjusts to him. communication goes both ways and dr han refuses to even go half way, resulting in shaun having an increasingly hard time communicating with dr han properly until the firing scene. what an ass.
Dr. Han is a fantastic character.
I agree! To be able to mimic a psychopath's behavior so we'll, you have to be a good actor.
Glad he roasted Morgan, she always blames Shaun for her stupidity 3:27
I hated her at the beginning just for that but I've grown to like her😂
To me he is always a good sturgeon.
Bruh Shaun wasn't arrogant in any way at this point.
You're delusional
How about a father that refuses to believe his child is sick because he shows "no symptoms"
You pay doctors to save lives, you pay psychologist to deal with the emotions of fucking up your children's lives

at 4 minutes he handed the surgeon an implant with his bare hands. lol
I'd love a direct doctor, not one who lies to make us feel better
Dr Han is deliberately triggering Shaun to have an Autistic meltdown and then says he is unstable, suspicious…
Dr Han needs to be the smartest and most powerful person in the room.
All of his closest relationships must have been extremely transactional and contingent on his successes :/
I don’t even watch this show and I’m in the comment section writing an essay on interpersonal relationships :D
He is jealous
of Shaun.
@@heidikickhouse-I've always felt the doctors didn't view me as a human being but just a set of test results and numbers.
It’s surprising the comments from non medical folks. But in a business like that, Dr. Han was right. Shaun has 0 bedside.
Well.. I’m still on my way to the end of the series. I can’t help to watch short clips here. But damn who hired this asshole to this hospital. Such a jerk! Stop mistreating Shaun!
Dr Han was right.
Mr Han is very vindictive
I don’t see how Han was a bad guy can someone explain
Please what's the name of this movie, I would love to watch it.
From before knowing Shaun he already disliked him for saying something to the mother about the pills, which she should have known since all pills come with a list of side effects or she should have told her doctors while pregnant.
But he pinned the blame of their distress caused by their own ignorance on Shaun
It doesn't get better from there since he only thinks of Shaun as an autistic creature that is below human, yet he takes every opportunity to use his intelect and hard earned skills to his benefit while insulting him to his face to the point he basically tells him "I don't like you in this job, so I changed your job,if you get mad its proof i was right"
as far as i can tell, dr han refuses to adjust to what shaun needs in order to communicate. he knows exactly how autism works and refuses to see from his point of view and is only capable of bullying his way through conversations. he shows this in previous interactions when he interacts with other people and they have to be the ones that adjusts to him. communication goes both ways and dr han refuses to even go half way, resulting in shaun having an increasingly hard time communicating with dr han properly until the firing scene. what an ass.
he failed to ask why it's so important for shaun to be a surgeon, he failed to respect he's choice and instead forced him to go to pathology, he shoots down anyone's opinion on shaun both personal and professional, and every positive thing out of his mouth is manipulative with the goal of proving that he's own opinion is the only one that matters.
2:50 oh, he was SO wrong here...
If he just was not that narrow minded andd a bit more like Melendez or Lim, he would recognize how much Shaun develops and that he is very great at what he is doing.
Bjr quelle est la chanson que l on entend lorsque dr Murphy se dispute avec le dr han ?
I don’t like Dr Han
Me neither, but someone of his character is respected.
My ex wife's father had similar characteristics like Han.
A bit cold, but made decisions based on what was rational over emotional.

@@AverinatwinsAs a current med student and an aspiring surgeon, I want to become someone as objective and rational as Dr. Han.
Diversity and Inclusion while berating a differently abled doctor right
"Differently abled" is often a euphemism.
House and Shaun😅 that would be awesome 😂
Tbf communication is the most important trait a human needs the moment communication isnt good you will have problems daily and in this case shauns case would be very difficult wich only the nicest or most mature people can handle
Surgeon Murphy, a young Sheldon.
His judgement about Shaun condition is accurate, but his wrong about Shaun potential to progress. He think Shaun Will never overcome comunication problem bcs he has autism
It's always a good sign of a work of fiction when people are arguing about the plot.
