I am an insulin dependent diabetic for over 40 years and now on a Tandem X2 pump using Dexcom TruSteel infusion set. As a former Clinical Biochemist it has been my experience that neither company seems to care enough to react to problems, especially with education on use of their systems.

Just bought an Apple Watch series 9 and loaded up the Dexcom App. Looks great. Right on the face of the watch. No more dragging my iPhone around.

Same experience here with my series 7. Series 3 definitely does not work with the G7 but does work with the G6. Model of Apple phone is also relevant as mentioned. Look up the devices that work with what on the Dexcom website.

I will be happy when someone produces one that is inexpensive and is accurate so that pre-diabetic and type 2 can see what their response is to different foods. So they can control their food intake and not tip over the edge of diabetic it is unfair in that we have to pay for monitoring I just can't afford the price in UK and they are not accurate enough to really work that purpose.

@barryhambly7711 check with your insurance. I am type 2. I assumed that they still didn't cover CGM for me and I was wrong. I use a little bit of insulin if my blood sugar goes really high. About 20 units a month. And my A1C was going up. When I checked with insurance they said it's covered. It's been 15 days now. I love it. So helpful. I have discovered exercise walking for 30 minutes lower blood sugar more than insulin. And quicker.

I have heard about the G7 being available for Omnipod by July 29th. I used a few of the G7's giving to me by my Endo, before I switched to G7, since I started on the Omnipod this past January. I still do finger sticks to check to see how accurate or not the G6 is. Or are the 2 meters I am using, how they match up with the sensor. A few times, the numbers were exact or no more then 5 points different.

  • @sherrywallis7718
    @sherrywallis7718 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Another thing that is new is you can get a packet of extra overlays from Dexcom instead of having to pilfer one out of a new sensor box. I had one that crumped onto itself while I was putting it on and couldn't use it. So I got one out of the next box and kept on robbing Peter to pay Paul until I had a new sensor with no patch. That just doesn't work for me, because they just fall off. So I taped the last one on with some paper tape and called Dexcom and whined about the patches. They sent me a new sensor because they said they didn't have extra patches. I guess that's not economical, to send out a sesor becuase you don't have the otehr patch which probably costs about a dime. Now they can send you a whole pack of them to keep handy in case you have your overpatch get clumped up or if it doesn't stick.

I have stopped placing the sensor on the back of my arm and followed your advice to put it on my thigh. Nothing is really better on the G7 other than direct to watch and everything else is just fixing problems. I still won't upgrade to G7 version meant for T1D's unless Dexcom increases the sensor wear time to at least 14 days and the cost of a month supply to be competitive to the Libre 3. That means only two Libre 3 sensors vs THREE Dexcom G7 sensors are needed to last a month. Also a month supply of G7 sensors without insurance is DOUBLE the price of Libre 3!

Some good information, thanks for sharing. I'm hoping soon we can transition our son to the G7 from the G6 with his Omnipod 5. This is off the topic of your video, but do you have any resources or personal insight you'd share about how parents can emotionally support their T1 children, and things maybe you'd wished your parents did or did not do when you were a child. I'm still really struggling with this as a parent and I don't want to be saying or doing the wrong things and unintentionally harming him. I greatly respect your insight on T1 diabetes. Thank you

Thank you. That’s a great question. I was diagnosed at 19, so I can’t share any personal experience of growing up with T1D. You should be able to find some good resources through CWD (Children with diabetes).
And I did do an interview a while back, with someone who’s more of an expert than me (th-cam.com/video/lvdCimnve1Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3IQfrlWHp7LWgzqy).
But there’s something I always think of when I think about my diagnosis and what was of value. When diagnosed I was taught not to fear life with diabetes, but rather learn the tools so I could do whatever I wanted with my life. That has stayed with me and I’m very grateful that that’s how my first diabetes nurse approached diabetes

I am a T1 for 51 years now (since 1973). Been pumping since the '90s. Just switched six days ago to G7 from G6 with my Tandem Tslim X2 with Control-IQ. All I can say is that they have a great random number generator on the G7, because the readings for the first 24 hours after the short warm up period were wildly inaccurate and had to be calibrated frequently in the first 24 hours due to being just flat out dangerously w-r-o-n-g. Way too low readings, and way too high readings. I had high expectations after watching and reading reviews. Silly me. I believed the reviews. On a 1-5 scale of satisfaction with just one G7 sensor so far, I give the G7 a 0.5. It has no where to go but up, because if I don't start having a positive feeling about the G7's accuracy (like, hey, let's get in the ballpark), I am returning the rest I received and will go with a competitor or whatever is compatible with my pump. On a positive note, I like the Android Dexcom G7 better than the G6 app.

Too bad they still have not upgraded the G6 hardware.I have sometimes signal loss when receiver is within one meter.
Problem is also that (at least in switzerland), you have to sign an expensive rental contract that runs for 5 years.... so you're stuck with the pump system for that time, and if it only talks to G6...and not G7...
If the market was not regulated as it is now, progress would be way faster.
And... thanks for you excellent updates - even if I can't use the G7 yet.

I was really excited about the new Apple Watch direct to watch feature and for the most part it works pretty good but like any new update it was bound to have a few bugs and this is no different. At least a handful of times a day I get a disconnected message on my watch and then a few minutes later I get a message again saying G7 has successfully paired with my watch it happens quite a bit throughout the day hopefully they fine-tune it in the future but still overall happy to get the updated readings on my watch without having to tap it every time to get it to open the app and refresh. I have the new ones with the underlined LBL code and I still with my watch on my left hand and my sensor on my left thigh still get disconnect notices quite frequently so I haven’t seen any extended range I always have to chuckle when I get a disconnection message when I’m walking and my left arm is down to my side practically touching the sensor on my thigh lol and yet still disconnects but overall I’m pleased with the update but it still has some issues with disconnects and now instead of it only disconnecting from my phone now it randomly disconnects from my watch and my phone lol

    • @DiabetesStrong

I didn't include it as it's not an upgrade. I've seen some people mention that it's being enforced. It's only for sensors that fall off, not for sensor failures. I think most people will be able to secure the sensor with either the Dexcom tape or other tapes and see only a few sensors fall off. But it's also a testimony to there being an issue with the product

Since the G7 can now go direct to an Apple watch with no need to carry a phone, does that mean that someone with a Samsung Galaxy phone (like me) could buy an Apple watch and have the G7 connect directly with it, without a need to switch from the Samsung to an Iphone? If that's not possible for some reason, I wonder whether the new Samsung Galaxy 7 watch (due, I believe, next month - in July) will be able to connect to the G7, even if a phone would need to be present, and ideally, directly as with the Apple watch.
