As weird as it may seem, I am and live in the Caribbean (Puerto Rico) & I became a fan of the Detroit Red Wings as a little kid, when I was like 9, the reason is because I used to see them a lot in the playoffs, so I stared to like & root for them and chose them as my team, and also because I had the N64 game Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey and I used to pick them with Fedorov and Kozlov. I still can't believe as a kid in the Caribbean I was so passionate about the NHL & DET. I used to tune in to ESPN or ESPN NEWS just to see the scores and results, and when Detroit lost, I'd be so sad for the day. I also watched the games whenever they were on tv. In playoff time I always got nervous. Didn't want to see DET lose or get eliminated. The good ol' days :') Sad to see the arena that was part of my childhood gone. The good days are gone. Now we are in a different conference and we don't even make the playoffs... The red sky looked amazing! Beautiful. Maybe a tribute from nature to the Red Wings arena that we all enjoyed so much.
Think of it as making room to rebuild Detroit and make it the biggest city like it was in its prime. Detroit used to be the biggest car city in the world and the economy was booming. Now it thugs and gang bangers shooting up abandon houses
Wow I did not think I would get emotional. I have so many memories at that arena, I grew up in the 90s during the highest point of the Red Wings career. I remember driving down Vernor highway with my family after the Wings swept Colorado for the Stanley Cup. The entire city was out celebrating. And then to end on that view, made me realize we do get some amazing skies out here. For all its faults, Detroit will always be my home, it's a part a who I am. Thank you for this video.
It's so sad that Detroit tore all the old stadiums down. Each building, the palace and joe louis arena had there own atmosphere. Both were great arenas.

This was my second home! I have season tickets and had spent so much time at The Joe! It was an amazing arena with so many memories. They last game play their was crazy and I’m so happy to been apart of it!
Joe Louis was not a modern arena. It was far behind many, many arenas. All the bathrooms were up a level so there were lines coming down stairs. The concourse was very narrow so lines from the concessions stretched across the whole walk way. So you had to walk through lines just to get around. I've been to the arena once (not a Wings fan) and honestly other than the history, which it was alright and neat, the arena sucked.

I'm sorry Mr. Ilitch for not seeing your Tiger's win a championship,, , but we got close. Sad day to see this great place go fown.😞
I remember spending my 16th birthday there, tickets to see them play was the only thing on my birthday list that year. Nothing will ever compare to hockey at the Joe.
So cool! Thank you so much for checking Joe Louis, I live in the area, this is part of Detroit History that I would have not been able to see unless you shared the adventure! Thank you!

Thank you for doing this! Seeing you walk through a lot of the areas brought back memories growing up running the halls of the Joe as a kid. You call it exploring I call it documenting history.
I'll never forget my first time walking through the big red drapes into the stands here. Seeing the giant scoreboard, the mass seating, and the ice. This place absolutely ruled! Even pissing into a trough was great lol. The new arena in Detroit is very nice but it doesn't have the feel of the Joe. You felt like you were there with the fans making noise at the Joe. The LCA is made so you could hear the sounds on the ice which is nice but when it comes time to cheer on the team it feels lifeless. Even the goal horn is a recording now. The old one at the Joe was supposedly banned because it was gas powered. No wonder it sounded so good.
I saw my first Red Wings game here...so sad that the Mighty Joe is gone ...I love The Joe ....R.I.P. Joe Louis Arena.1979-2019.........and this is why I am proud to me From Michigan...best State I could have ever grew up in !!
Great video! I’m across the river from Detroit in Ontario so it was nice to see relevant near by locations! If you were wondering why the sky is so vibrantly pink, it is because of the greenhouses in Kingsville area! It’s created a bright pollution of light
Detroit must hold the record for having had the most number of arenas. First, there was Olympia Stadium, then Cobo Arena, then the Silverdome, followed by Joe Louis Arena, The Palace of Auburn Hills, and now Little Caesars Arena. During that same period, the Celtics played in the old Boston Garden and now TD Garden.
great video of the "Joe". Done respectfully even though the building is coming down, the intact physical history will be gone for eve. love the way the guy brought you around
Should of gone to Eloise. It's an abandoned insane asylum in Michigan. Or to the Waterford Mall is also abandoned. Both are super cool but tricky to get into.
Great video and was great for all of you to get the chance to film the vast spaces of the stadium before it get pulled down such a shame so much history within the walls 👍🏻😊
My husband and his crew are the people that sold all the seats out of there. They were down there for almost a yr unbolting seats and selling them. Me and my sons got to walk around and explore while my husband was working.
Thanks a lot for this video as a red wings fan who grew up going to the Joe to watch hockey games this place holds a lot of memories for me and I miss this arena very much because of all the history there the brawl between the avalanche and the red wings in 97, the sweep of 97 and much much more so thank you for keeping the memory
Mr Fister my dad said it’s sad how much loss Detroit keeps having starting with the Silver dome, tiger stadium now the joe and it really truly is my very first ever hockey game was at the joe
Gordie Howe was the Wayne Gretzky of his era. He was epic. Legendary. This arena also hosted boxing (Joe Louis was an epic boxer), arena football, basketball, and rock concerts. Epic video.

Lol 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
What?
I think when he was outside at the end and looked up all he could make out was Louis Arena on the building.
So what! Grow up brat
Thank you for doing this! Seeing you walk through a lot of the areas brought back memories growing up running the halls of the Joe as a kid. You call it exploring I call it documenting history.
I was literally just in Detroit and it was almost completely demolished except the frame of the building
Michigan where you at!!!!!>
I saw my first Red Wings game here...so sad that the Mighty Joe is gone ...I love The Joe ....R.I.P. Joe Louis Arena.1979-2019.........and this is why I am proud to me From Michigan...best State I could have ever grew up in !!
That was cool he gave you guys a tour of the place
Great video! I’m across the river from Detroit in Ontario so it was nice to see relevant near by locations! If you were wondering why the sky is so vibrantly pink, it is because of the greenhouses in Kingsville area! It’s created a bright pollution of light
Steph Lockyer Canada sucks buddy
You said St Louis arena lol making every Red Wings fan cringe, one of their biggest rivals is the St Louis Blues
Ken Jankowski blues💙💙💙
Go blues!
How many cups again that's right go WINGS 💪💪
Yeair
Not anymore...maybe in the 90's
Detroit must hold the record for having had the most number of arenas. First, there was Olympia Stadium, then Cobo Arena, then the Silverdome, followed by Joe Louis Arena, The Palace of Auburn Hills, and now Little Caesars Arena. During that same period, the Celtics played in the old Boston Garden and now TD Garden.
As much as I hated the wings being a Colorado fan in the 90’s. I hate to see Joe Lewis arena being torn down. Another part of hockey history gone
great video of the "Joe". Done respectfully even though the building is coming down, the intact physical history will be gone for eve. love the way the guy brought you around
Should of gone to Eloise. It's an abandoned insane asylum in Michigan. Or to the Waterford Mall is also abandoned. Both are super cool but tricky to get into.
devils rose I’m not aware of Waterford mall. If you’re referring to summit place it’s already been torn down.
Totally Summit Place Mall; it was *never* called “Waterford Mall”. It was previous called “Pontiac Mall” prior to the SPM era.
Please come to St. Louis! It’s got so much history and plenty of historical abandoned!
Any more abandoned theme park videos coming soon? They're my favourite 💙🙌🔥
Same
Thanks a lot for this video as a red wings fan who grew up going to the Joe to watch hockey games this place holds a lot of memories for me and I miss this arena very much because of all the history there the brawl between the avalanche and the red wings in 97, the sweep of 97 and much much more so thank you for keeping the memory
That place is HUGE
It’s so sad to see this go because I grew up watching games here and know all of those places that are now abandoned
I watched a game in a Suite there I had a Bathroom they had Workers bringing us pizza it was awesome
From Flint Michigan and there were some amazing championships won in that arena!! From Hockey to the NBA and Boxing!! Amazing history in that place!
Still breaks my heart that the joe will no longer exist
same as Tiger Stadium!
Mr Fister my dad said it’s sad how much loss Detroit keeps having starting with the Silver dome, tiger stadium now the joe and it really truly is my very first ever hockey game was at the joe
Josh, that was an amazing & unexpected explore. Now you have it all on film for future generations & for those who were regulars. Great job. 👍💜
BRO!!! Ruined it with the “St. LOUIS” arena tour at the end!! Otherwise as a diehard lifelong wings fan...hits hard
Gordie Howe was the Wayne Gretzky of his era. He was epic. Legendary. This arena also hosted boxing (Joe Louis was an epic boxer), arena football, basketball, and rock concerts. Epic video.
Make way for progress. Very sad to see this torn down
Cool video! My family had season tickets here for 30 years up until the last season at the Joe. Weird seeing it like this. That suite you guys were in with the big window overlooking the arena is where the governor used to sit.
Are you still in Michigan? There’s an abandoned hospital near my house. A 20 min drive from Detroit
Being the Joe has been down for about 3 months now.. I would assume this was filmed when he was here back in the spring
Where’s this hospital you speak of 🤔
Doesn't it have security.. or have they finally given up
@@Jameson2223 Harrison Township, an old St. John Hospital. I went there about a year ago, got some pretty cool pics.
@@Nathan_Warnick I didn't see any security when I was there. it was during the day but perhaps they ramp up security at night. it's been awhile since I've been there.
I’ve been to so many games there, the memories going up those stairs. And seeing the great big paintings as a little kid just awesome. So sad to see it go. I went to the second to last game and got my mini replica of the joe.
SAME BRO THAT WAS LIT
