Sorry but the "aggressor is being invaded" is BS, you clearly have no military background, all you guys are judging military operations from a CIVILIAN standpoint. And you are doing a lot of BAD assumptions. In war you cannot only "defend", you need to strike at the enemy's territory otherwise he will always be advantaged. This is not a new escalation, this is how wars go. Its normal for the attacked side to strike back if he is not losing. The US attacked back Japan in 1942 after Japan attacked them...was the US an "invader"? No....
