  • In this video, Some Guy removes the headliner from his 1995 Jeep Cherokee XJ and finds the fiberglass to be in tatters, reinforcing it with fiberglass repair resin and fabric. Once these repairs are done, he moves onto reapplying adhesive to the mold and new replacement fabric, trimming it to size and shape before reinstalling it in the jeep!

    For better results, pour the hardener onto the headliner, apply the fiber glass on top, and then pour some onto the top of the fiber glass, get an air roller, and then roll it out over top of the fiberglass sheet until all the air bubbles are out. This prevents delamintaion in high heat or throughout heat cycles. Learned this when taking a boat building class, makes a world of difference. Great video though! Keep it up!

      I have plans to do a speaker box build into the headliner one day, I appreciate this info and will put it to use! Thank you

      @@SomeGuyOutside No problem! Make sure to use polyfill behind the speaker for the best results! (Unless it's a tweeter).

    This is awesome....I just got a 96 GCL that has the headliner all hanging down, the fiberglass is very degraded, so will reinforce it as you had done....this is exactly what I was looking for....GREAT EXPLANATION AND GREAT JOB

      I’m glad I could help, it’s held up great the one thing I wish I had done before laying the glue and fabric was sanded down the “high points” where the resin and fiberglass raised up

    I have a 96 2 door and had the same issues ith my head liner. I found a 99 4 door head liner and with a little effort was able to install it in my 96 and turned out good.. i brushed off all of the foam and spray painted the liner with some flat off white crylon and used 3 or 4 cans Never have to mess with it again ..

    Thanks for the vid! I'm doing the same reinforcement in my silverado right now. I'll be using 3m headliner glue wish me luck with foam backed suede.

      Good luck!! I’d say the biggest thing is letting the glue cure the proper amount before putting the headliner material on it… but don’t wait too long!

    I think the best headliner is the one (material) used by Honda it's kind felt.
    It is felt.
    And not that pantyhose thin liner glued to a sponge backing.

    Using a foam-backed headliner will hide all the small imperfections.

    Looking at this project, I have a question/want your opinion.
    Since the board is already fiberglass, if you can get it cleaned up and decently smoothed condition, would it be viable to just coat (and let it "soak in to") the board so the resin would make the board more rigid (not hard, but better than it is now) AND give a decent surface for the glue and cloth to adhere (or a paintball surface)?
    Just thinking out loud.

    • @SomeGuyOutside
      @SomeGuyOutside  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re correct (atleast to my understanding) that the base is fiberglass and for the areas that aren’t degraded, bent or ripped I did spread a bit of the resin just to reinforce and it absolutely made it super strong. Sanding down the areas that had bent, ripped or is too fibrous is where I really recommend using the replacement fiber strips.
      I regret not sanding the whole board after covering it with resin as I think it would’ve been doable without damaging and gotten rid of some of the blemishes. I will be adding that step into my next headliner job!
      Thanks for the though, sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner haven’t been working on the tube much during the holidays!

    How many yards of fabric did you buy?

    • @SomeGuyOutside
      @SomeGuyOutside  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I purchased four yards just to have an extra 6-10 inches in all directions for folding over the edges. I think I probably had an extra 2 or so feet at the end.
