*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
Hello Dan, with you in England Lidl has such things in the program, I myself have 2 crivit freewheel reels in size 5000 which there were times in Lidl, which I use for deadbaiting, super roll and very stable, so they are not bad! I've been using it for 10 years!! Greetings from Germany 👍
I actually got one, I thought the spare spool was useful. I had perch drop shotting in mind. Weirdly enough I used it with mono and a waggler at a place called Ellerbeck fishery and indeed caught bream, half decent bream in truth. It seems fairly smooth and solid.
I'm very happy with my 2000 lidl reel for the price paid and the spare spool being aluminium is a bargain will probably get the 3000 size now if it has a baitrunner switch especially if that also has soared spool very handy
The spinning combo👍 I bought the 3000 bit heavy but great for dead bait rod and at £12.99 Unfortunately the kids had to sacrifice their usual treats for it but that's life 😂
I bought this a while ago and to honest it's really not bad at all. I'd say for every day fun it's perfect. I use it with a 5-6lb line and soft lures on my small river at the bottom of the garden. Had some lovely brown trout on it and it performed beautifully. The bail arm is a little clunky, I'm going to adjust it slightly so it clicks over easier but I was very surprised just how nice it was to use. I use it with a 7ft ultra light spinning rod and the balance is great.......if they have some left go and buy one. I'm tempted to buy the fly rod set now. Good review BTW :) always like watching your channel.
@@pikeandperch i need to look into go down a private pond with you. Some good carp in there. In 1 day i had 4 carp over 20lb all on fly. Such a explosion of them. Ine carp only 19lb took almost 20 minutes to get in the net, 3 rounds around the pond, a dead branch on the line befor she gave up 😂
Spinning kits are available in all sorts of cheap supermarkets or stores like Action so I would opt for the fly fishing set. Surprisingly I have seen several videos about cheap sets that work like a charm for perch and trout
Silly idea maybe... Is it worth stripping that reel down to see if if got bushings that can be upgraded into bearings? That is if the build quality is there, it may have bushings...
Even my bloody stradics didn’t come with spare spools 😳😂 picked up an Okuma Jaw baitcaster which is quite nice (and quite cheap!!!!!) chucking 100g+ lures. Go with the fly kit it’d be interesting 😂
I've got two as I bought one recently forgetting I had one already from a couple of years ago. Okay reels but rather heavy at 500g. My similar sized Preston is only 320g
I bought about 10 of Lidl's Crivit reels (3000 and 5000 size baitrunners, £14 at that time) about 10 years ago and still by far the best reels I own - forget Shimano, a load of crap compared, despite the hype and mass hysteria associated with them. My 3 best rated makes of reels in order of rating are: Crivit, Okuma, NGT... As stated Crivit reels are heavy - because they actually have METAL bodies not the weak plastic as a lot of modern reels are. But the weight is an advantage as I find, when set up, rods are far better balanced with the weightier reels. As I say I have used Crivits consistently for all the years I've owned them and all still function as good as new - something that can't be said of the few Shimanos I own - even after being serviced by Shimano themselves - just glad I bought those from a pawn type shop for a few quid! I use Crivits for everything from canal float fishing (3000 size) to pike fishing (5000 size) ... and these 2000 size ones might be even better for the lighter stuff such as the canal stuff. I didn't know that Lidl still did the 'angling special' weeks - not seen one happen in 5 years or more despite Aldi still doing theirs ... albeit Aldi are good quality for clothing/luggage but crap for tackle items - and Lidl the opposite really. Will have to pop to Lidl asap now - but fear the stocks will be gone... I have 60 preset/tackled up rod/reel combos I use for my fishing (so I just grab and go and no need to tackle up at the waterside wasting valuable time!) and some of my reels could do with replacing (esp them Shimanos - and the Shakespeares too).
saw your video yesterday popped out this morning and picked up a 3000 and a 1000,nice looking reels, havent spooled them yet both feel smooth as butter, the 3000 also has a baitrunner.
Mate for the price. Noone may complain. I have mine for 3 years. Pike zander and perch. Once every 6 or so months i a bit of ptfe oil in the bearings and drag.
Looks not bad, if it can handle salt water...i guess not but you never know, 13 quit and you know it, it is also good stuf for someone who's gonna starting fishing, the reels i starting with 50 yrs ago where not so nice 😁succes Monday mate 👍
Sir I wished I lived were you do I mean wow that is awesome. I would go with the spinning reel combo sir. Heck I would love to have the reel and stuff if you ever give it away lol. But sir have been enjoying your channel and the videos you put out are always over the top. Want to say thanks and appreciate all your time and hard work you do making these awesome videos. Well till next's trip GodBless and Tight Lines.
Their sea fishing kits are an actual bargain, get them for £3 some times and ye get everything you would need for a day out. Do the fly fishing set up...be interesting to see how much patience you have 😂
@@markod1719 what lol? You're suggesting someone spend about £150 to test all the fishing related gear?... Whilst you buy none and await others too and review them 😂
Just got 2 x 3000 reels for £12.99 each from Lidl, then look on ebay and someone is selling them for £45 each they must think that they are worth it. How to make money what?
I've bought the spinning reel and 2 x the size 3000 freerunners. The spinning reel will get used for trotting and abit of float fishing probably. Surely they'll do the job. Only thing that looks abit dodgy on all 3 reels is the handle bit. Time will prove. In general these reels got good long term reviews. Surprisingly

Better than the£50 branded ones I have...but don't tell anyone !
Go with the fly combo, every body makes spinning combos, fly combos are usually iffy with crappy rod action.
