🙏🏾 good to have the historical context. Yes, you have to think Liverpool is very disappointed after their first half performance against Madrid.

Great video thanks for this handy history. There's an interesting record of breakaway leagues in a bunch of sports. The lesson, though, migth be that the original governing bodies tend to win out in the end. Even if parts of what's on offer in the breakaways are attractive. I'm thinking of Packer from the ICC in cricket, Kasparov's breakaway from FIDE in chess, and (something I know far less about) the XFL.

Good point! So far UEFA's response is about appeasing the big clubs with format and prize money changes coming to the 2023 season. The fans are the ones that put what can only be considered a temporary stop to the latest Super league attempt. I hope you are right... Big clubs cannot be allowed to break football, but their are big for a reason...

UEFA Champions League were begin in 1992-93, until 2008-09 was a good tournament, but in 2009-10 elimination system were changed, and it's destroyed football in Europe

Thanks for sharing, Zeki. Could you say more about why you think 2009-10 destroyed football?

@@SportsTalkTech It was very easy to participate in this tournament for the teams that were 2nd in the leagues between the 7th and 15th places in the UEFA Country Rankings until the 2008-09 season. But in the 2009-10 season, a major system change was made in the qualifiers. For the teams that were second in leagues between 7th and 15th in UEFA Country Rankings, participation in this tournament was made almost impossible. and they were replaced by the champions of the poor leagues, because they do not want them to compete against the teams of the top 4 countries in the UEFA country rankings and they want most of the money to be theirs and the gap between the rich leagues and the poor leagues is now bigger than ever

Point taken. What are your thoughts on the resurfacing of the super league this week?

@@SportsTalkTech If the fair participation of the teams in the Tournament is ensured, there will be no problems. This is what should happen anyway, otherwise Football clubs will be driven into complete bankruptcy.

    Great video!
Why do some teams decide to break off and who makes the decision?
Do the teams rally together or is it based on a strategy?

UEFA is in charge of football in Europe, both club and national teams. The big European football clubs want a more significant share of the revenue, and they are the ones seeking to create their own league. If this happens, then many clubs will suffer, and the UCL will be doomed.

It's unfair UEFA failing to own up to accepting the inter city's fair cup after debut of UEL
