The cop should have never been allowed in the building with a gun unless he was on official business. This sort of thing doesn't happen if rules are in place ,and followed. Too often police & attorneys etc are waved in at security check points without being checked. Court room bailiffs should be hired by court services & not pander to police. Front door security should be private security that doesn't pander to cops,convicts ,public defenders,prosecutors, attorneys etc.

I've been at my job longer than anyone at our courthouse because I don't pander to cops, convicts, attorneys etc. My job is to protect my Judge. Following rules would have prevented this. I didn't know that police officers had to be disarmed, before they go into a courtroom. In this case it was the chief of police.
