yeah this video is super bittersweet, considering Doyle split from WKW during 2046 and hasn't made a film with him since. I feel that ever since 2046 WKW hasn't been the same as his glory days during 90s.
@@nicp2344 one of the reasons why Doyle split from WKW after making so many movies with him is because he felt that he was taking way too long to make his movies, and Doyle had to move on to other projects sooner or later. Of course, with projects like Chungking Express he shot it in a very short period of time, but in the following years he took even more time. In The Mood For Love took 15 months to film, and 2046 took almost 2-3 years, if I'm not mistaken, and 4 years to complete entirely, which made Doyle fed up. He had also said somewhere in an interview that in his opinion 2046 was unnecessary, but that's up to you to decide. it's sad that they split, but good things don't last forever. He is still one of my favourite cinematographers.
@@YongeneW I kind of see his point with 2046. I enjoyed it but in terms of the themes and messages in that film, they're essentially an amalgamation of all his previous romance films - and thus it felt as stylish but not as poignant as his previous works. I think Doyle was also blaming that redundancy for the why the film took so long too
Hope Doyle and Karwai will collaborate at least once again. It's one of the best DP/Director duo I know.

@@YongeneW what's the backstory about that? That's weird that wkw would split from Doyle if they made so many classic films together.

@@ufoash1066 that was my first take on the movie, but after rewatching I think otherwise. respect the opinion tho
Inspiring, very powerful message to all artists. Forget the noise, let it flow from your heart.
Oh Man, that was so emotional and inspiring. In the way Doyle talks you can really feel his passion. He loves his job!
Is he even real, so much of inspiration and clearness in this 5 minutes
One of the most legendary creative duos in history
what's amazing is that Doyle just works with simplicity and yet the result turns out to be one of the most unique visual language in all of cinema.
He is Master of visual!!
Love his work and he will be legend for young filmmaker.
I really, truly enjoyed this lesson in simplicity. Thank you.
More Christopher Doyle..pleaaaseeee!!
That makes two of us, the man is a star as well as an artist.
Kar-Way, Doyle and Cooke. Thank you!
Karwai is his first name. Wang is the last name.
@@anyountae9401 It's ok, we're on a first name basis. Doyle, on the other hand, doesn't like to be called Christopher.
