Doyle's romanticization of the neon light; his depiction of the colourful streets in all his masterpieces has defined the vibe, the sensibility of the city.
I visited HK recently I got the same feeling he's talking about. The neon signs are the first thing that just capture you it's amazing. There's always a glow to everyone. It's so romantic. I've been to other Asian countries but HK is just different.
I personally think that "Fallen Angels" is even better than "Chungking Express". Especially visually due to Doyle's cinematography + I prefer contract killers over police officers. They are more mysterious characters.
I feel like in so many films we see hit men being presented as mysterious. I kind of like how Anderson showed shops employees, air hostesses and police men as dark and mysterious. Both films are beautiful
Sao chép phim châu Âu, Mĩ. Tớ xem cả đống phim kiểu đời sống con dân bóng tối bối cảnh phố đêm chỉ phục vụ màn đêm với ánh đèn màu le lói kiểu này nên chẳng thấy gì đặc sắc
@@aaaaaaaaaaaaoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ? Phim Âu Mĩ sao chép Vương Gia Vệ đấy,Đạo diễn lost in translation còn cám ơn vương gia vệ vì truyền ý tưởng cho ? ,2046 cũng là góc nhìn của Christopher Doyle nếu blade runner 2049 được quay bởi ông ? Mấy phim âu mĩ thì cũng sao chép thôi chứ có gì đâu mà tung hô như thần thế ?
the example“whole and wife" that he mentioned is soooo awful...like women are objects in his mouth. can't imagine the person who could create such a pretty image speaking like someone uneducated and misogyny
It s a bit macho, what s with the incessant metaphores with women . Néons are like women « if you touch it it can break »come on Despite that its a beautiful video

is it still like this? I thought digitalization destroyed that.
Tokyo and Hong Kong. I would go back to these in a heartbeat. I loved both so much.
Unfortunately most of thr neon signs demolished due to government policy
Loved the shot of the characters riding through the tunnel on a motorcycle
Masterpiece

they're both individually beautiful pieces of film
同道中人!!最愛墮落天使
its a contrast between day and night
the bright and dark side

This man is obviously a genius. And I think this is one of the best videos on TH-cam, ever. Love.
Kar Wai Wong's film will certainly never be this famous without Doyle, Respect!
I think every element in Wong's film is essential.
let’s not neglect wongs work just bc you watched 10 mins of doyles lol

maybe we are all gas inside a neon tube
I like this worlds, have you invented it or its a sentence coming from something?
@@davidecastagno3607 it was in the youtube video that this is the comment section for
Obviously way ahead of his time. I can't get enough of his collaboration with Wong Kar-Wai for so many years.
Also, his work on "Last Life in the Universe" by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang is pure class.
I wonder if Christopher Doyle is into dream-pop/shoegaze. I see a very close connection between (neon) light and otherworldly sounds.
+TvuxoRoiale Totally agree, good point.
+TvuxoRoiale I feel the same way. You can tell that his hair got that crazy wild Cocteau Twins/shoegaze-esque potential to it too
maybe he's a fan of Dream Catalogue who knows
yeah, recently I've been really into shoe gaze and also fell in love with Wong Kar Wai's films. I think he would love shoegaze.
I bet he also loves some vaporwave before sleep.
I’m just the gas inside the tube. Loved that
A E S T H E T I C S
Smoke the Vapor~
neon was a great piece of art...
I love neon for some reason it’s so enticing and aww capturing
This man was just as responsible as Wong Kar Wai, if not more, for the moving looking so beautiful.
I love Chris Doyle and of course Wong Kar Wai.
This man is real man!
Definitely the Magician
the best
kar Wai is a genius
I can't wait to see his work in the new jodorowsky film
+Salman Zaki yes, hopefully it wont be their last collaboration together...
Just Christopher Doyle. Greetings from Perú.
Thank you so much for this interview.

无法自拔
Love this. Thank you!
I feel like a neon lamp. I just have gas inside my tube.
Does anyone know the music they use throughout this clip? It works so well with the pictures.
Neon is all men aspire to
Thank you for this very beautiful video! I also love the images that you have shot - I wonder which camera you were using to film this?
cuando un video de youtube literal te cambia la vida jaja relatable
What is the title of the great music?

2:33 Where's that place???
life's a gas
bunlar başka bir dünyada gibi
ya soy neón solo gas en un tubo

0:40 what movie is this scene from???
i think its from Fallen angels (1995)
Pajor Chakraborty thanks!
this video is kinda psychedelic
anyone know the name of the movie at the 7:25 mark??
Is it really a movie? To me it seems like it was made for the video
the film's I WANT TO make would have the same cult following as my phone
Comparing warm and cold tones to a wife vs a whore oddly enough makes perfect sense to me..
the example“whole and wife" that he mentioned is soooo awful...like women are objects in his mouth. can't imagine the person who could create such a pretty image speaking like someone uneducated and misogyny

Making film look like anime.
