I genuinely love when I hear a fashion opinion that varies from mine. (I stay in a pair of leather slides 😭) I need proof that individual taste still exists every now and then
I remember when things were just called pleather. Now everyone and their mother sells things as "vegan leather." I'm interested to know the actual environmental impact of a leather bag vs a pleather one, especially because the life of the leather bag is 20x longer (hellooooo vintage Coach ❤)
I believe (not an expert just someone interested in fashion sustainability) pleather or vegan leather is actually much worse from an environmental standpoint. Plastic, which pleather is made out of, takes much much MUCH longer to biodegrade than real leather as leather is considered a natural material. I appreciate the sentiment against animal cruelty especially in leather products, but it’s so much more sustainable and environmentally friendly to shop second hand leather. Sidenote: there is also a lot of real leather available in thrift stores, vintage shops, etc. And even if you did want to buy new, there is a lot more sustainable real leather brands available today than there was in years past (Not even considering the amount of waste created when making pleather pieces)
On the topic of "why not thrift leather if it's already an item that exists in the world", the most simple answer is this: a lot of people feel weird about wearing what used to be the skin of an animal. That said, I agree that "vegan leather" is nonsense and we could be wearing other materials instead. Everything is very tricky though. For example, I sometimes shop at organic basics. Their production and their cotton are sold as sustainable, right? But a few months ago I learned that it takes 8.500 litres of water to make 1kg of cotton, 24% of the world's insecticide market is used for cotton farming (polluting water supply) and 20% of the world's cotton comes from Xinjiang (forced labor and loads of deaths). So even though organic basics is doing a better job than most brands, they are still inherently unsustainable... I feel like the best we could do is shop second hand and avoid overconsumption (the amount of huge thrifting hauls I see on social media is insane). Ps: highly recommend reading Worn by Sofi Thanhauser.
I learned it somewhere, any relatively good quality vegan leather will use at least 50% PU, which is one of the worst plastic fabric. It's impossible to recycle... so it could even be worse than other plastic-based fabric Edit: This is the source I learned about that: th-cam.com/video/Zw2ziC1HsIQ/w-d-xo.html
LOL was instantly ready to comment about the hunting camo before you even said my name!! I totally see the weird class dynamics with that trend too (I also had a lot of people share in my comments that they've seen it a lot in the queer community as like a subversive expression of masculinity which makes so much sense to me, but i feel like as it's risen in the mainstream it's kinda lost that context & sense of subversion) PS: THANK YOU for ur comments on polyester lining oh my god I so agree
"Exposed" zippers are usually put on clothes for functional purposes. Hidden or invisible zippers are an option but you eventually have to switch them up over time because they tend to break easily. Buttons are more elegant, but no one could do them up alone if they are on the back.
I loved this! I appreciate you talking about things you hate that aren't micro trends, it seems more genuine than other videos I watch with this subject. Also, I grew up and still live in rural Michigan and I love my camo lol. Have I ever been hunting in my life? No. I just love utility clothing! Thanks for sharing this
almost every single thing being sold by fast fashion stores this summer is freaking polyester. Dresses, skirts, crop tops. Saw some cute linen/cotton clothes at monki but they indeed have a polyester lining. This is why i sew my own clothes 😅
people selling/wearing the FFA jackets as a fashion statement is NUTS to me. I went to high school in rural Florida and even if you asked me today at 31 if I wanted to wear one of those in a blinding snowstorm with no other options for warmth I'd probably still hesitate before I put it on 😂
Same thing with New Balance sneakers, which were for old people with foot problems. But since Coco Gauff, young pro tennis player, wears that brand, it’s cool to wear them now.
Ugh the polyester linings! Especially on nice 100% silk dresses, so much for the luxurious feel. And the description is all about the premium fabric and sustainability to justify the price, at least have a rayon lining then!
THANK YOU!!! This was the most validating video I share so many of your icks. I am constantly cutting out polyester liners leaving only the zipper if there is one in my wake and then wearing my own cotton / silk slips under them and they usually look cooler anyways!! Also the zipper, yesssssssssuhhhhh!!! 👏🏻
This was so refreshing! I hate Crocs and there is literally a line out the door sometimes to get into the Crocs store at my mall. I simply don't get wanting those hoof-like, chunks of plastic... also agree on hunter camo but liking army camo :)
That was hilarious when you started talking about FFA jackets. My cousin actually got hers authentically through a horticulture program at our old school… I might have to steal it now 🤭
The exposed zipper on your top can be replaced with an invisible zipper by a tailor and you'd only lose less than an inch in the over all circumference of the top.
Fabulous video as always. Totally agree about polyester linings. I went to uniqlo for the first time today and a lovely cotton/linen dress I tried on was ruined by the synthetic lining, the feeling made me scream on the inside 😅 so crazy.
The polyester lining is my nemesis!! Item described as ‘linen pant’ until you check the item description and there’s a 100% polyester lining… who is buying that?!
Wow, surprisingly kinda agreed on everything exept crocs! Fully accept “not me” thing tho, we’re all different, but practically they are much better than flip flops (for gardening and such) as they protect your feet while being shaped like feet, with enough room for the toes and the air flow. And even though a lot of people find their shape ugly, at least they have a shape? Chunky, but that works better for some of us (me included), not everyone feels good in, like, tiny ballet flats (sadly! Wish I could). Styling crocs as a fashion item also makes much more sense than styling said flipflops (that also keep on trending from time to time while being a default beachwear). Not classy or ladylike at all, for sure, but for some other styles crocs can be a fun option, idk, they come in lots of shapes and colors, can be adjusted with different accessories (not only jibbits or whatever they are called), there is a lot to play with here, but sure to each their own. The only downside for me is them being in fact slides too, so yes, maybe not the best choice for a busy day in the city (I dislike slides for the same reasons as you do btw but especially i hate heeled ones.. and heeled flip flops are a horrifying mystery to me, they even look painful and like how is this even acceptable its torture)
I'm soooo with you on the polyester lining as well! Living in Arizona and reaching over 110F on a daily basis during summer, wearing Linen or Cotton with a polyester lining is UNBEARABLE! I just rip it out if possible 😂
I do love the couch floral print fabric clothes but would only buy it vintage. I love crocs but not the traditional ones. I love crocs sandals and platform sandals! I personally hate the whole tights with underwear or bodysuit and no bottoms trend.
Michaela, You’re spot on about the work ware! Not that long ago people who wore certain work brand garments worked jobs to withstand the elements. Similarly, back in the day those who drove a truck did so because it was actually used for its intended purpose (tow, haul, plow, etc.) nowadays…… not the case
YES to the polyester lining in linen and cotton garments! So ridiculous. The whole point of linen and cotton is that they are natural and breathable. I live in the Pacific. It’s hot. It’s humid. If I find polyester lined pieces that are otherwise great, I just remove the disgusting lining 😅
The thing with slides that irks me (from personal experience) is that if I don't grip with my toes, they will go flying forward and you will never catch my raw dogs touch city concrete especially not in NYC
Crocs are definitely acceptable in the garden my friend. I don’t want the mosquitoes to get my toes. They last forever and are super comfy. But I gotta say, I used to be you. Not on the crocs train. Until I hit 45 and became a mega gardener. What I am saying is there is time for you yet. 😂 Otherwise, you and I are ick compatible, and I love your channel. Subscribed. ❤
I WILL rip the polyester lining if I truly like the item. Most linings are awkward (in size and placement) to be honest, because brands are lazy. In tops I don't really care if people see the outline of my bra - women wear bras, live with it, it's not obscene (unless I'm in a place where that would be highly innapropriate like at work or a church, then I will wear something opaque). I'm still conscious about panty lines though, but then I will wear nude underwear or boxer shorts :)
my biggest ick right now is dresses made out of layers of fabric. when a skirt has 2+ horizontal stitches that are sewn together instead of a single piece of fabric that would be enough to make a full skirt. looks incredibly cheap and tacky, as if there was no enough material for a whole piece. it doesn’t add to the style of a skirt/dress, and if it’s patterned, pattern doesn’t even match when the pieces are sewn together. infuriates me. and another one is no lining in a dress/skirt or a knee length lining for a midi/maxi length dress/skirt. so so cheap!!
I hate vegan leather and crocs so much too. But I am obsessed with real tree camo right now 🤣 and I cannot explain why. I actually don't like the army camo. It reminds me of forever 21 in 2013. But I think my biggest fashion ick is dad sneakers. Love your videos ♥
I love wearing camo with button ups lol I think for me it’s about making uniforms trendy or more appealing. I grew up with a lot of people in my family wearing uniforms. I’m from MN and I love the FFA jackets 😂 🤷🏾♀️
Okay listen I also agree that crocs are very ugly 😂 but I still have a pair bc they are very comfortable and great for wearing in the yard / dirt / mud bc I never want to get shoes I actually like dirty 😂
I agree crocs are so ugly.... and yet, i do love wearing them. they're just comfy! like throw them on with sweatpants to run a quick errand. but i also don't live in a super fashionable area, most people don't dress up to run errands here. also i love your cardigan! did you crochet it/where is it from?
I’m a born and raised Californian and can spot an FFA jacket from a mile away. Maybe it’s only big in states with big AG influence? I saw that on a fashion girly a couple weeks ago in NYC and had a visceral reaction lmao
I work near Capitol Hill in DC and one day I saw a huge group going to congressional meetings wearing these FAA jackets, except I had no idea what they were so when I went home I spent hours word searching “blue corduroy jacket with name” trying to find one for sale on Poshmark so I totally get what you’re saying but, they’re objectively so cute and you’re so wrong lmao
I do think there is fake leather that looks and feels as good as the real thing, it just ALWAYS ages badly. Not great for the environment either, since it doesn't rot, as far as I know. Unrelated: The entire time I just kept thinking how much you look like Snow White, the way I imagined her as a child...you'd be the perfect personification in a live action movie, maybe get in touch with Disney :)
I'm so on team I hate Crocs. My husband's family loves Crocs and despite knowing my passionate hate for them, that's what I received as my birthday gift 😑 ugh
Healthcare is the only acceptable place for Crocs I feel, I'd say as house shoes too, but i still wanna be cute indoors athankya! My mother wears them and i tease her mercilessly about it!
i wish crocs were not a trend because I just genuinely love my crocs for being super comfy😭 and I love decorating stuff so the Capuchons are really fun😓 I do get they are pretty ugly tho lol

"if there is one thing I always have energy for, it is talking shit" queen of my life. and same
there’s nothin like it 😌💅🏻
I genuinely love when I hear a fashion opinion that varies from mine. (I stay in a pair of leather slides 😭) I need proof that individual taste still exists every now and then
I love this perspective!!! Like yes! We do not all need to dress in the same 4 tik tok trends
I remember when things were just called pleather. Now everyone and their mother sells things as "vegan leather." I'm interested to know the actual environmental impact of a leather bag vs a pleather one, especially because the life of the leather bag is 20x longer (hellooooo vintage Coach ❤)

Yes! Polyester lining drives me bonkers
Hate it so much 😭
Right?? I was trying to shop for clothes for this summer and I found ONE thing that wasn't lined with polyester
LOL was instantly ready to comment about the hunting camo before you even said my name!! Truly the biggest jump scare! 😵💫
FFA jackets are cool for people who didn’t grow up in rural small towns like we did. For those who did, they are the biggest ick
Agree! But I also remember when most people thought Birks were ugly and associated with being a hippie or having bad feet and needing comfy shoes :).
Same thing with New Balance sneakers, which were for old people with foot problems. But since Coco Gauff, young pro tennis player, wears that brand, it’s cool to wear them now.
I am a hippie with very bad poorly feet wearing Birks, but now people think I am trendy lololol
@@wlammy4ever lolol Love it!
@@reinalyn2674 So funny we humans!
as someone from the prairies of canada, the laugh i let out when you explained what FFA was…unreal 😂
you’d have to pry my camo & floral tapestry pieces out of my cold dead midwestern hands 🥰
and we love a girl who knows what she likes!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Ugh the polyester linings! Especially on nice 100% silk dresses, so much for the luxurious feel. And the description is all about the premium fabric and sustainability to justify the price, at least have a rayon lining then!

Crocs are actually the ideal child shoe!
I also hate Crocs, They're terrible (and expensive for what?). Something that I really hate is flat "dressy" sandals.
Fabulous video as always. Totally agree about polyester linings. I went to uniqlo for the first time today and a lovely cotton/linen dress I tried on was ruined by the synthetic lining, the feeling made me scream on the inside 😅 so crazy.

It’s definitely a rural thing, my school had an ag barn for people in ffa
ffa doesn’t just exist in the midwest. my high school is a small one out around farms in california and it has that club.
👍🏻
I have crics and I use them as indoor shoes. They have their own insoles so they are very comfortable but i see where you are coming from.
crocs are great for your feet if you are concerned with your shoes having a wide toe box. most normal sneakers can cause bunions over time
I’m with you on the Crocs and the tree camo 😝😝😝

Good for real boat life too. Leather boat shoes look nice, but are a pain when jumping in and out of dinghies at the shore.
I had FFA at my highschool in California lol (in the Napa Valley)
sewing helps I would even teach u queen !! or recommend something ! you have an eye for fashion 💗
slides are so comfortable once you wear them in a bit

see and I am obsessed with a dad sneaker!! Gotta lean into what ya love 😎💗
My Jean telfar is mega structured but I do agree w the pleather. Not worth the cost
I grew up in California and our high school had FFA lol.

I’ll allow it 😂😂
Exactly. They're my comfy shoes for gardening and bringing out the trash.
I like tapestry material but I agree with hating crocs forever and always

we had FFA in texas and they were lowkey styling EVERY. TIME.💀
I knew this rich girl who dressed and acted like she was poor and would get mad if you called her rich but she literally has a Lexus
I went to a school that had ffa in az! I can’t believe that people are willingly wearing them for fashion purposes 😭!!!

hahahha I love that story 😂
I absolutely loved all this
FFA's West Coast, too. Oregon and California anyway 🤷♀️
"couch fabric" PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE
Also, to me, crocs are hospital shoes lol
Agreed with every one of these!
I hate Cocs to interesting List..i could listen to you for Hours love you Michaela..❤❤❤
My husband's family loves Crocs and despite knowing my passionate hate for them, that's what I received as my birthday gift 😑 ugh
i was a crocs hater, but them i saw the charms you could buy and i got suckered in lol. i do agree, they are ugly tbh, but also comfortable.
Finally someone understands my croc hate. I’m a huge hater idc they are awful, always have been always will be
Healthcare is the only acceptable place for Crocs I feel, I'd say as house shoes too, but i still wanna be cute indoors athankya!
My mother wears them and i tease her mercilessly about it!
Yes, nurses get the crocs pass!!
Crocs are so ugly!! I agree with your list!
Agree w everything, but don’t you dare come for my chanclas!!
i wish crocs were not a trend because I just genuinely love my crocs for being super comfy😭 and I love decorating stuff so the Capuchons are really fun😓 I do get they are pretty ugly tho lol
My grandfather ruined overalls for me. Once, I was wearing denim overalls as a teenager, he saw me and said: "Our people (Irish) came to this country and worked ourselves to the bone so your generation would never have to wear overalls."
Work wear, especially distressed clothing, will never look fashionable to me. I am from a rural area and people wear that kind of clothing when they work in the fields or in construction.
Same with sports jerseys, I just associate them with the men shouting at the screen while watching a match down at the pub.
I totally dislike Camouflage because we have serious wars going on in this world and we dont have to play cosplay warriors.
Especially with the US playing an active part in not so good a way..
i mean sure but it's not like camo isn't used for other things, like she mentioned growing up in the midwest💀 military camo and hunting camo aren't even the same
huhhh
💀💀💀💀 Lord… it’s a pattern
As ugly as Crocs are, they do make the best shoes for camping or going on the lake. I think wearing them in public is a sin, though.
The girls in the farmer club had to wear heels?? The FARMER club?
I am a Wisconsin girlie as well and recently thrifted a ridiculous pink real tree camo shirt. I thought that it was super funny. What is the purpose of pink camo? A forest or trees at sunset? I live pretty rurally and my son considers the kids who actually wear camo to school to be “hicks”. I hate the racing jackets…but I also worked for years at Road America. After dealing with the people who race cars and having seen the money and wealth and culture that goes with that…no thanks.
this was a really fun one 🤭
You are reading my mind that stick camo is so ugly and how can they line cotton or linen dresses with poly it just ruins it
also hate crocs and camo!
FFA jackets I am so embarrassed that is humiliating
Stolen farmer valor!
Wait, you know Liz from beepworld?
We haven’t met in person!
FFA????
So I can sell my husband's FFA jacket from the 70s for $500?!
I really think you could!! Especially for a jacket from the 70s in good condition, people pay the big bucks! 💸
Calling it “vegan leather” made yall pay $$$ for a bag from Payless 😅
good god I hate pleather so much. it is such a bad material, doesn't last at all and it looks so fucking ugly.
Crocs 🤢🤮
i love when you are a hater
Gladiator sandals that go up to the knee. Really? We got the “aesthetic” at your ankle. Who has time for that?
😂😂
