Confession time: I was part of the production company that filmed those trucks falling from the 10 feet in the air. Those trucks didn't start the first time we filmed that because the fuel pump in the gas tank would immediately dislodge. I'm the guy that figured out the problem and rigged up an external electric fuel pump so they would start and drive away after we drop them. Then: we reshot the commercial. Surprisingly the suspension and everything else was fine, even though: each of those trucks was dropped a minimum additional 2 or 3 times for testing purposes before the second and final shoot. IE: some of those trucks were dropped 5 times with no problem other than the stock fuel pump In the gas tank dislodging!

He also had a deep appreciation for all mechanical progress, but at the end of the day the purchases fell on a Mopar of some kind, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, etc.. We've had an 03 Ram 3500 4 door long bed with the overload springs straight out of the factory with the exhaust brake. Had 8k lbs in the bed, didn't come close to bump stops, towed veeerrry heavy loads, and to top it off it was one of the years with absolutely no EPA garbage! Love it to death and with some modifications it got up to 1200lbft of torque and 26mpg unloaded highway. 18 loaded. Now it has a 6.7 swapped in and is even more amazing. Love the truck and would recommend it to anyone. It also has the 6 speed NV5600 which I wish Scotty had talked about because it is bulletproof out of the factory.

What surprised me most was the great gas mileage it got over the course of my 3000 mile trip. I've often wondered, however, how well they hold up over the long haul. I tend to keep trucks for a very long time. I put lots of miles on them. My current truck has over 300k on it. I'd consider a Ram 1500 for my next truck, so long as it isn't a maintenance money pit.

I had a 2017 Ram 1500 Tradesmen as the lone family vehicle, camper tower, materials and debris hauler, etc. It did everything I needed. While camping in Virginia Beach, my wife noticed that everyone else had 2500s, 3500s, 250s, 350s,...and she kept saying to me, "we need more truck". I was resistant because my 1500 was nearly paid for and did everything I needed. The morning after returning home from that trip, my wife woke me up and asked, "are you ready to go look at trucks"? Thinking I would pacify her, I agreed to 'look'. As we approached the lot, we both spotted an Olive Green Ram 2500 Tradesmen. It is now mine, and I paid it off after just two payments. Stepping up to the 2500 was a great choice! I smile every time I see it, and I get compliments on my truck all the time. I've done some small upgrades and have plans for some more involved improvements. I doubt I'll ever sell this truck and I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.

The ride is comfortable, the road noise is quiet on the highway and I get an average 22 mpg. Couple hundred bucks swapped rear springs for 30% higher capacity ones. I just bought a used 2001 2500 cummings diesel powered truck 130,000 miles. I plopped a carry/slide on camper in the back of it. AND, It didn't even notice the weight. Good mileage too. I'm in love !!

My overall view of Mopar products has never been good. That is until I bought a '93 D250 with the 5.9 Cummins and 5-speed manual transmission. I can't speak to the newer Dodge trucks or any other Dodge vehicles, but this truck has been rock solid. I've owned it for 14 years now and it's been one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever had. It's right up there with my 1990 Corolla. I've gotten up to 23 mpg driving it unloaded, and up to 18 mpg with a truck camper on it and while towing the Corolla behind it. Those are the best numbers - the worst mpg I've ever gotten with it (with the camper on and while towing the Corolla) was about 13.5 mpg which included lots of climbing and headwinds. Normally while loaded it's in the 16 to 17 mpg area.
For a turbo diesel it's a real dog though. They really tuned these things for longevity rather than power. The good news is that it's relatively easy and cheap to get 40 to 50 more hp out of them. If you want to throw a few thousand at it you can drastically increase the power, but then you have to worry about the rest of the drivetrain too. I just did the basic mods (fuel pin, governor spring and some injection pump tuning) so I could tow a little easier and am very happy with the results. Hope to keep this truck for many more years. And - it's the only vehicle I've ever owned that actually appreciated while I've had it. Fourteen years after I bought it I could probably sell it for $5,000 more than I paid for it, or more.

Price starts at 35k? I know 4 people that just bought one. The cheapest one was a 1500 for 74k and the most expensive one was a Cummins for 90k. Then to top it off we all live in California and pay 8.5% tax on that and about $1500 in registration. That brings the grand total to $100k. I’m pretty sure your not going to haul gravel in that.

for ford there are stainless steel studs sold on ebay. change once and never deal with the issue again. Frod 5.4L had that issue because their studs to hold manifold were ( are)_ only 8 mm thick) So with little heat rust and some vibration from the tailpipe the cyl 4 on the back is the first one to lose the stud. .. Pickups (at least those earlier) did not have those harmonic balances so that is why studs get lot of stress from the exhaust pipe ..

Tows a trailer with a few quads, a horse and trailer, or other light duty items. You pay a fuel penalty for mountain driving while towing above 2500 lbs (I think max is about 7000lbs on the V6) , but if unladen (or even towing on a flat road) it's amazingly efficient for a 1/2 ton V6.
