      They are still made but under the 'Union' brand (the Union works was situated in Union Street, Willenhall UK and the Yale works was in nearby Wood Street). Same with other former Chubb products. The Chubb brand is now owned by United Technologies (who own Otis elevators etc) having become separated from the lock manufacturing operations which ended up with ASSA Abloy and ASSA Abloy had a licence to use the Chubb brand but this terminated several years ago. Interestingly a British arm of ASSA Abloy is still licenced to use the Chubb brand for detention locks presumably this being important for for export purposes.

    First of all. I love how this is still all one take even though he struggles with this lock he still doesn't use any cuts what so ever.
    And secondly i would to have a video explaining all the technical terms with explantions. I've been watching the videos for quite a while now and still don't know the difference between binding and a click 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @danpowell806
      @danpowell806 4 ปีที่แล้ว +76

      "Binding" means that the pin isn't moving using the normal amount of force, "counter rotation" means that applying force on the pin is making the core move backwards, and "click" is the noise and tactile feel of a pit stack aligning with the shear line.
      Much of the terms refer to things that are entirely detected by feel.

    • @ConstantlyDamaged
      @ConstantlyDamaged 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Binding: means that, with pressure applied from the tension wrench (tensioner), the pin provides resistance against the pick pushing it up. This usually happens when that is the pin stopping the core from turning.
      Click: the sound a pin makes when it was binding, but reaches the sheer line and allows the core to move a little more. Note: serated pins make this MUCH harder to detect since each movement of the pin against the edge of the pin chamber will result in a click. Some locksport enthusiasts will even cut grooves into a pin chamber (usually with a thread tap) to make this even more pronounced.
      Any others?

    • @crazybob75
      @crazybob75 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Bosnianbill usually goes deeper into explaining the technical points of lockpicking, so maybe check out his vids. As for bind/click... when you turn a lock core with a tension wrench, because not all the pins and pin chambers are exactly the same size, one or more of the pins will press against the side. When you try to move the pins with a pick, you will notice some friction, while the others move freely. Those pins are binding, which is an indication that they are the ones to pick first. When the binding pin is moved into the unlocked position, it will fall into place with a little click. So, binding means that a pin is ripe for picking, a click indicates that it is picked.

    • @jcims
      @jcims 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @Felix Hustede Also for completeness sake 'nothing on x' means that the pin is moving freely against the tension of the spring.

      the weakest link should be the core. you don't want the body or the shackle be the weakest link.

    • @ScottKenny1978
      @ScottKenny1978 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@thomasjenkins7506 depends on what you're locking up, and why.
      The masterlock plastic loto lock has a very hard to pick core, but it's in a plastic body. So that if the person who locked it is off site and you absolutely must have the unit back up and running, you can just break the lock. But nobody is going to pick that lock to mess with the machine. And if someone is hurt by the machine after the lock is broken, it's obvious that the procedures were followed, so now it's a deliberate criminal act instead of an accident.

    • @aserta
      @aserta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, a smaller piece wouldn't do much against a drill. That being said, the whole anti-drill is more of a nuisance. I've yet to meet a lock that doesn't "open" to a reduced tip 3 to 10 mm. You just eat through them all the way through, the secret being very methodical and temperate about your chip evacuation.

    • @bramverbeek7109

      Grease works great for sticking stuff - apart from the obvious applications like sticking loose ball bearings into bicycle wheel hubs (they need grease for lubrication anyway), it's also handy for sticking non-magnetic screws to screwdrivers when placing them in hard-to-reach places.

    I'm a decent lock picker. I had a Chubb identical to this one years back. It took me a week of working on it two hours per day before I finally got it picked. Mr. LPL opens it in minutes. LPL mentions casually how the cuts makes you pick the pins "a couple of times" and how the taper makes them easy to over set. Those two features, IMO, are so very much better at making a lock pick resistant than simple spools and serrated pins, which are easily defeated.
