First Time in Manila, Philippines! Eating Jollibee, taking the metro, and visiting tourist places

  • We are finally exploring Manila! When we first arrived in the Philippines we were immediately invited to a family party in Pampanga, so it has taken us a little longer than we expected to explore the Philippines capital city; Manila. There are so many tourist places to explore in Manila, so we chose the best tourist spots according to our taste and are excited to share our first day exploring Manila with you.
First up, we visited Bonifacio Global City (BGC) which is a luxury piece of Manila that attracts many foreigners because it is very safe and has all the comforts that Western foreigners are used to. The shopping and coffee are amazing, but what really makes this place worth visiting are the free-roaming cats and the dogs in strollers!
Then, to really get a feel for the city, we took the Manila Metro! The metro was CROWDED, but, it ran well and was really affordable. We love taking public transportation when we get to a new city, and Manila is a great place to learn how to use the metro system because Manila traffic is terrible (seriously, we can't emphasize this enough!). If you are a traveler visiting Manila, we highly recommend learning how to take the metro system to save yourself money and a few headaches :)
After our packed metro experience, we rewarded ourselves with Jollibee! For me (Nicole) it was my first time trying Jollibee, and boy did visiting Jollibee make a lot of things about Mico make sense! You'll have to watch the video for all of the details, but when we left Jollibee's I felt like I had put a few pieces of the puzzle of Mico together at last. Maybe it really is true that Jollibee is part of the fabric of being Filipino, even for those Filipino who have been living outside of the Philippines for many years :)
With the energy to explore (actually fried chicken made us feel tired haha) we visited Rizal Park and learned a bit about the Filipino patriot, Jose Rizal. After touring Rizal Park we made our way to Intramuros - a very popular tourist spot in Manila. Intramuros is a beautiful area that gave us a chance to learn more about the Spanish conquest in the Philippines. We saw the gorgeous Manila Cathedral and ended our day with a visit to Fort Santiago. And if you watch to the end of the video, you'll see a very interesting shot of a man rowing a boat with what we think was cardboard (I thought it was impressive :p)

Found your channel by accident and got real interested with family immigration history. Welcome to the motherland. I believe you know more Tagalog than you’re scared to admit especially if you can pick up on the conversations. You Don’t need to talk much Tagalog and one to two words of acknowledgment back goes a long way. Don’t be afraid to speak coz the locals are to respectful to correct you. Im also first generation US immigrant (I was 9 years old when we arrived in Seattle in 1972). Grew up just like you in wanting to assimilate, lost my accent but I managed to keep speaking Tagalog as I got older.
Wishing you both a good time there and your quest to connect with your roots.

If by chance the Higher Education was not able to change and have not abolished the Spanish mandatory subject in all colleges during the 70s and 80s , then Philippines could have been a country with 3 major languages which perhaps widely spoken around the country . Aside from Filipino Tagalog and English as you guys have mentioned.

Usually BGC is so popular and no blogger will skip going to a very modern new city like BGC. There are seven malls in BGC area. Did you know that Filipinos love to stroll in the mall just spend time with family and friends, which I think is the reason why there are huge malls in Manila and everywhere in provinces will always be a mall, even in Baguio city.

Welcome to the Philippines, Nicole amd Mico! Stumbled onto you guys today. Great video btw full of fun and interesting information and you guys are fun and awesome presenting it. Philippines is very unique and Metro manila manifests it in alot of ways. The people, culture and the surroundings are a mix of western (spanish, American) and asian (malay, indian, Chinese, japanese and local) that you won't typically find in any other city in Asia. My suggestion if it gets too hot and humid where you are but still want to be outdoors amd are still in thr city, try visiting the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon city preferably on a weekend (no public vehicles inside the campus academic oval). Lots of nature, good scenery and oconic landmarks. There are also lots of good restaurants and street food surrounding the university walking distance. Anyway take care and best wishes always! Enjoy your vacation and greetings from a new sub from California 😊

Yes the Chinese are the ones who get rich more because mostly of them were unscrupulous businessman they usually buy agricultural products from our local Filipino farmers for a very cheap price, aside from that many Filipinos were un educated which force then to find a sort of living which is very difficult to earn at standard rate that would be unable to buy for daily food stuffs.

Thats "picture framing" your face when your photo is taken. Originally it is done with 2 hands, but people usually do it with 1. It wasnt invented by pinoys, but became a "pinoy" thing, It got popular in the philippines around 1990s.

popularized by Eat Bulaga (noontime TV show) That's my Boy contest segment. I refer to it as the "guwapo tayo" pose.

Thats not an 'angel' in the Manila Cathedral. Thats the Virgin Mary, specifically the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the Philippines!

How safe is Philippines for traveler's from India. Any racism or Terrorism there ?

    • @cutiebellacat4720

Its is safe compared to USA.
No mass shootings(gun violence) no drug addicts roaming in the streets, filipinos are not racist dont worry. Terrorism was a very very very old news, its in south of mindanao philippines, but now the problem was sold, no need to worry. Filipinos are polite and respectful as what they said. Its a golden rule while travelling,be very extra careful wherever country u are travelling.

You will have a fantastic time here in the Philippines! The people are so friendly and welcoming. Getting around is easy (might need to buy domestic flights in advance) and getting around with English is very doable. I would not worry about racism or terrorism. Just exercise the same level of caution you would for any place you travel. Stick to the touristy parts or go with a local/friend to the more off the beaten track places. You will have a great time 😊

@@nicoleandmico when I'm retiring my pension is only $750 dollars. How I'm supposed to rent a apartment? In California renting is very expensive over a thousand dollars. How am I supposed to afford that if I retiring? What State are you guys from? In California it's very expensive that's where I live.
