    hi jace. so good to see you are going to restore this beautiful car, instead of making a hot rod out of it . so many good cars have been wasted its great to see your family getting involved, i wish you all the best and looking forward to seeing the progress on your car.

      Thanks Johnny. Yes, this car was not the hot rod candidate. Between the model it was, completeness, and story behind it, a true restoration was the only way.

    Hey man. What an awesome story. Us car guys love this stuff. The fact you were able to find the original owners wife was awesome. Growing up and seeing the car too. And the fact that Mr. Dominic was a decorated marine is just icing on the cake. The car itself is a top of the line highly optioned car too. I look forward to watching your progress on this car!

    Great story. I bet if the vandals didn't get to it and the interior would've stayed all closed-up, it would've been quite nice. What an honorable thing to get it restored. The Catalina hardtop is a beautiful car. Good luck!

    I love the old Buick, Pontiac and Oldsmobiles of this era.
    It's a shame it had to get so stomped and kicked in.
    You are going to have to do some serious searching for replacement parts. There is a business named Kanter that has old unusual car parts. That engine looks rough, that cylinder looks like it is going to be an absolute bear to get out.
    I'll be looking forward to seeing your next video!

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
    from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
    Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by
    reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated
    central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down
    all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From
    2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as
    exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox
    oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no
    investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even
    created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(

      I am going to guess that there will be an exemption for antique and classic ICE vehicles. As long as they are not being used as daily drivers and are displayed at car shows or rallies I believe most laws will have provisions. I am going to guess that could apply in other countries as well especially since many of these old ICE vehicles are a part of history and it is important to preserve history. It is wrong to not to preserve and keep historical artifacts and I am going to guess that there will be special exemptions even in the EU for historical ICE vehicles.

    • @lemonjack358
      @lemonjack358 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bad prospects. But I suspect that the German Green Party will no longer be in government in 3 years. Europe has accumulated too many problems and will eliminate itself politically. Of course environmental protection is important, but the people in the member countries will not agree with too many bans.

    • @jeffreysproul9110
      @jeffreysproul9110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lemonjack358 I think environmental protection is important as well but just like anything it can be carried to extremes. Most collectors of old cars are not going to drive them that much and the amount of pollution generated from old classic cars is a drop in the bucket compared to other sources. I think these old cars should be preserved for posterity and the majority of these old cars have long since been crushed and recycled which makes the few that are left even more important. There are still coal locomotives being used for tourists because they are historical and you can still find some in many European countries. I doubt even most environmentalists are for an outright ban of these and want them preserved for future generations. We all want cleaner air but we don't want to erase history.

    I'm glad to see you're planning to get the Pontiac back in shape. I had a far gone 51 Pontiac Ambulance as a parts car for my 53 Catalina, and used its straight 8. Your project may not be inexpensive, short term or simple, but I think that you, as only its second owner, will have a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction from it - not only when it's done, but as you reach milestones of progress along the way. Best wishes!

      Hi Stephen, you hit the nail on the head. I dont plan on it being cheap, but it sure will be worth it. I'd love to see some pictures of your Catalina, possibly the Custom Catalina?? 1953's name change from the Super Deluxe Catalina as I am sure you know

    • @stephenandloriyoung5716
      @stephenandloriyoung5716 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JaceAllen13 Mine isn't the Custom Catalina. I think its designation is Catalina DeLuxe Chieftain, so it came without the Custom's extra goodies, like leather seats, wider and fluted C pillar trim - (wait, hardtops don't have a B pillar in the usual location, so is the one at the rear of the roof really a C pillar?), different upholstery panels, and the exclusive colors. I was surprised, looking at Google Images this summer, to see my car. It was posted in a very brief recent item by Buffalo News, two shots taken when it was parked in front of our daughter's home when we were visiting several years ago. I found one shot of it just now, way down in the list from its position when I first saw it. Fame is fleeting.

    I hope you actually RESTORE, rather than resto-mod, this car. Remember, you need to use 1 gauge battery cables, as this is 6 volts. You CAN NOT use 4 or 6 gauge battery cables with 6 volts. You just can't. If you use 1 gauge cables, and a correct battery - I think for this car, Group 3, NOT Group 1, you will not have starting troubles. The original owner drive it for over 15 years, so it had to have been easy to start. You can use an 8 volt battery if you truly want more cranking power. All you have to do is re-calibrate the regulator. Everything else stays stock. Even the radio.

    Good luck on this ambitious project. High time to start looking for a donor car, as complete and rust free as you can find it. Please note that if you start with a car in this state it will cost you more money to restore it than what it will be worth in the end. If you're a romantic with deep pockets then that will not be a problem. Otherwise - find a better car to start with.

    In 1951 there was no CATALINA model with Pontiac the "Top of the Line" model was the Chieftain, my father had one he bought new in in 1953.....😏

    • @JaceAllen13
      @JaceAllen13  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Terry, I understand what you’re saying, but you’re a little incorrect. You are right to a certain extent. There were essentially two models that Pontiac released, even though there were really three. The two that Pontiac officially released were the chieftain and the streamliner series. The Catalina and super deluxe Catalina were a branch off of the Chieftan. The super deluxe Catalina was the highest model Pontiac offered in terms of quality. You can look up the 1951 Pontiac documentation that they released clearly notes the vehicles as Catalinas
