I think Kuro actually started cooking on their trailers with Jiyan, because it shows a part of the actual first few acts of the game. It shows that, like in the game, Jiyan has a struggle with being given the title of general BECAUSE of Geshu Lin. The two have a fight that you could see as more than just a flashy fight, it could be an interesting struggle between Jiyan’s role as the general because it seems like sometimes Jiyan doesn’t think he’s good enough, that even if he does his best, soldiers still fall in battle regardless if that’s what he wants or not. And the Retroact Rain adds to that in the Jiyan trailer as fallen soldiers are both crying out to him and confiding their strength in Jiyan. Even though he’s the first character, Jiyan’s trailer left such an impact on, in a sense, his struggle as a simple combat medic that jumped straight into the position of general. His role first and foremost is to protect people, which clashes with being a general because there are wars and conflicts that demand sacrifice. That’s how I see it anyways
fr, imo the Retroactive Rain is the best part to introduce what Wuthering Waves really is, the calamity that the rain causes people to hallucinate and if weak willed, they'll become a tacet discord.
I remember Genshin players were saying how Citlali was an unfair comparison and that we should wait for Mavuika’s trailer since Archons always get banger trailers. Then we got the music video… And the silence spoke for itself. 😅

WuWa, ZZZ, and now Genshin are now shifting to using more cinematics and little to no gameplay in their 5 star character trailers. If you ask me, though, there’s something magical about being able to combine gameplay and story in a trailer format to wholly sell a character. It’s why Shorekeeper remains my favorite WuWa trailer to this day. The trailer acts as her character arc, starting from nothing before finding her purpose thanks to Rover, which is then capped off with her gameplay to show her newfound determination to fight.

This video is riddled with biases. If you were being fair and honest with your critique of Genshin, you know that character teasers and previews achieve that context for the "who, what where, and why" for a great deal of characters. It's certinly not rare as every premire 5* gets one. I'm sure for like the 3 or 4 characters you mentioned for you can find trailers that match what your looking for. I know it's popular to talk about how genshin sucks but let not make dishonest criticisms. I get it you really like wuwa. Just started after the release on PS5 and I'm enjoying myself too.
The trailers are so good that I went through a whole video just watching the trailer in the background (with no sound) and only after the trailer finished (it was Camellya's one) did I realize that the video was coming to an end and that I wasn't watching the trailer itself XD

Last time I watched a character trailer for a hoyo game was zhong li, they are just cringe. They literally hide character's backstory into random youtube videos, instead of, you know, putting it into the game. Oh right, mihoyo games can only do black screen white text. Meanwhile they spend MILLIONS on trailers, and commission new songs from famous musicians. But character quests have generic music. Not to mention characters doing all kinds of acrovatics in trailers, meanwhile in gameplay... we all know how boring genshin gameplay is, not to mention hsr or zzz. On the other hand, ever since shorekeeper trailer I've been watching all of wuwa's ones (older ones are hoyo style and not very good, I also don't play pgr so I can't comment for those). I also love how they separated the gameplay from the trailers to allow full freedom for the director, writer and storyboarder, but they still keep the action part in line with how the character plays.
this is just so wrong, like most other gachas have had comparable trailers for a while, wuthering mainly has the benefit of being newer and having a better engine but like plenty of gachas have had great trailers since ages in the past, its just some of wuwas stand out cause its the newest most progessive one

Probably depends on your expectations. I watch the trailers and see complex choreographies and great camerawork. Added to good voiceacting and good storytelling, I find the trailers overall very good. But I am not expecting Kubrik-level cinema.
Well you haven’t really played zzz so I can’t hold you for not knowing this but zzz trailers ARE GAS and I mean absolute GAS you thought carlottas was peak Miyabi and astra Yao OML their teasers are like 4-6 minutes of pure tragic story telling their charecter demos are full on cutscenes and they both have an animated short even harumasas demo was peak too
I think there's nothing to talk about here. Genshin lost players interest in trailers and many quit the game as it was almost time(3-4years). I don't think Carlotta trailer was the best, it looked a mix of Arlecchino and Carlotta personality. Simple fact is that Genshin time is gone. Unless they release some better character and playstyle and hype it for what it is with much better story than last year, they won't get more attention. Carlotta got attention for her dps value and her style. And even her resonance are awesome. So she got the right kind of hype. I hope WuWv does not buy CC's.
