I remember catching this train from Sydney to Wangaratta to visit my nan at Bright in the 60’s & 70’s. Dad worked on the railways & got 4 gold family tickets a year . 3 for anywhere in NSW & 1 for anywher in Oz . He was a welder , worked in maintenance at Clyde in Sydney . Long gone now, Miss ya dad !

Amazing video, loved the chase. Great location to have that SCT service overtake the special.

Yes, that was a surprise in a way. My mates were a little concerned that the SCT freight was going to ruin their photos, but I wasn't too concerned. I was happy to be out for the day videoing trains.
Incidentally, this will be the last tour train video for 2017. (I'll be back in 2018 until winter - then I will have other interesting stuff by Spring) I now have to work every weekend until some time in January, but there are other videos I'm working on as I see things and have time. Thanks again for watching! :-)

I'll try to make it to the 100th anniversary tour in 20 years from now, if they do do such a tour.

Its sad how there isn't any S Class Steam Locos around to haul trips like this.

+JRP Productions Agreed. IIRC the last one to be withdrawn was S301, and there was very little wrong with it when it was withdrawn. Apparently VR were considering putting it on display outside the then new Spencer St Station - which would have saved it until the 70's at least - but by the time the phone call was made to the scrapyard too much had already been taken off the S class steamer to make it worthwhile salvaging it. Knowing the VR policy of the time, I seriously doubt the phone call was ever made.

If only it had been put on display it could have been restored like A2 986

They should build an S304, like how Tornado 60163 was built brand new in the UK. I wonder if the blueprints for the S class still exist.

I say there would be some plans archived. It would be a sight to see a S Class today especially running a double header with a R Class

Yes, an S, an R and H220 would be nice. I doubt the H has turned a wheel since the museum in Williamstown got it.

At 14:15ish the track looked 3rd world. Serious?????

Hahaha! That's just Ballarat all over - 3rd World! 😂 Seriously, you'll find that's it's really just the tele-photo effect, considering I'm a few hundred metres away at the Humffray St level crossing.
