Just found your channel and really enjoy it. My Grandad had a caravan at Nether Wasdale and I spent all my school summer holidays fishing Irt, Esk, Ehen so it brings back memories. The run down to Dark Corner that I think. I kept on the caravan after he death but gave it up in my late 20s to focus on my local Ribble, Hodder and Lune iIv still friends in Gosforth Anglers, member of PA etc and always have a trip up each season. Your videos are making me think I should head up more often.

Great little vid and smashing fish. Never heard of shrimping before. So many questions. Where do you get red dyed prawns ? Do you use and main weight to ledger the leader down, and if not then how do you cast the rig without additional weight ?
I have braid (30lb) to a swivel I attach a small amount of line to the swivel to hooks the shots (weights) then another longer line from the swivel to the pin/ treble. The trick is using the right amount of weight for the current in front of you, don’t want to be hitting them bottom but don’t want it well above there heads either. That’s the skill in the method
That's a real shame, but well done anyway on a fantastic Salmon! I hope you did justice to the Salmon in your kitchen. Years ago I had Salmon from a smokers that were from a friend's adventures, it was fantastic....
It’s a west Cumbrian river, not going to out right name locations plenty of people will know where that’s at. Thanks hopefully we get some rain soon an get more fish up the system.
@@user-zu6qn9ux9nAgreed, but as single anglers there is nothing we can do about that but on the riverbank we can. It goes against the grain that as game fisherman we can’t take a fish for the table but reality is reality and we need as many to fish to spawn as possible
What should be banned ? Yes I’ve been releasing fish for 15+ years, I am all for releasing salmon. Sometimes they simply do not go back. Held that fish in the water for 15 mins waiting for it to get strong and that didn’t happen so took it to eat. ✌️
It would have had a chance if it had been properly rested in the water as soon as it was netted. Should be standard practise for any hard fighting fish and all decent anglers know it and do it.
@@hg3389 released many fish over 15 years of salmon fishing, the video doesn’t show everything. Doesn’t show the 20 mins holding the fish trying to get it to swim away ….

Always think where you`ll land a fish before casting out ... its good you were geared up ,,net ready & waders on !👍
Yeah on these little Cumbrian rivers there’s alot of snags an obstacles, makes it interesting 😂

Belter Jord, well in🎣🎣
well done i love watching fishing as i have dun a lot of myself home in Ireland
Roll on the fishing season been a long winter 🎣
Superb what a river what a fish and looks like such a good method not to use the prawn/shrimp up here in Scotland as far as I know
Am not sure on the rules in Scotland but prawn/ shrimp is deadly when you master it, easily the best method for taking salmon.
Great stuff .. no better method than the prawn and along with fly the best if you want to release..
Couldn’t agree more that fish is the only one I’ve had that was hooked quite badly all others lip hooked an returned
Did you put the fish ack
Where can I get the rig ?
What rod/reel are you using?
Using a major craft 10-30 gram first cast, the reel is a penn fierce 2500 a think
you guys should really try some of us Yanks methods for steelhead for your salmon
Tell me more ….

A lot of fisheries ban this method.
That’s true here in Cumbria there’s a few rivers your allowed to use this method on
I thought treble hooks weren’t allowed for fishing salmon now?
Different clubs have different rules the club that run that beat allow the method used in the video.
Yes, my only question, did it go home or to the pot?
I support returning Salmon, I also understand taking a fish on very rare occasions.
After spending 15 mins the fish didnt seem to want to go, hopefully that’s the only salmon I have to take this season as I usually release them.

Treble hook. Holding the fish out of the water. Of course it is dead. So few of these fish left that every single one is critical for their survival.
Not due to the angler but the fishing boats trawling the feeding grounds off Iceland and Greenland taking thousands of tons
