The greatest heroes are the ones who never wanted to be heroes in the first place. Look at most of the Medal of Honor winners who performed actions that seem inhuman, living through things that kill everyone around them. The ones that go against insurmountable odds to *save* those around them ... they always comment that they don't feel like heroes. They feel like those around them were the ones who deserved that medal, that title. The ones that gave their life in the same events were the ones that allowed the person being recognized to overcome and survive. I always found it slightly depressing that soldiers who win the Medal of Honor must spend the rest of their lives being reminded that they survived an extraordinary event. It's probably the *worst* memory they have, and it always will be. The moment that title [MoH recipient] gets attached to their name, it becomes attached to that memory. They're forced to relive it every time someone recognizes the medal. Every time their name is mentioned publicly, the medal is mentioned, and pieces of the memory wash over them. They would all trade that medal for one more happy memory with the people that lost their lives in the event that the medal resulted from. They're still heroes because they prevented *more* death, destruction, and/or suffering. However, all of that is unseen and "what if" scenarios. The memory of what earned them the medal is unfortunately real, and they had a front row seat for every vile detail. They prevented others from having the same trauma. That is heroic, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it.
His dying thoughts were so heartbreaking. He's hoping that the ring can go to a new wearer who is noble, brave, and worthy. And I'm just like, dude, it already has.😢 Rest in peace, you brave, noble, worthy soul.
That’s besides the point. He actually was worthy, him sacrificing himself proved that it wasn’t just manipulation that got him there, but the suspicious and intellect is what got him there as well as him being brave in the end.
He was still chosen with the purpose of being a sacrifice, which just sucks. He knew he wasn't a very strong-willed individual and that that meant his purpose was in his soon-to-be death.
100% agree. Maybe they could find him preserved in a kind of stasis, like his ring stayed with him and protected him because it knew he was now truly worthy to wield it.
Biggest challenge for a Green Latern is overcoming their own self-doubts. As doubt leads to fear. Fear leads to failure to take action. And well, Sinestro is laughing over your mangled body. To overcome doubt. That is to overcome fear. To achieve that. You become greater than you were. You become a true Green Lantern. Being the light that shines the brightest in the dark. A beacon of hope. And the dude was a beacon. He was the greatest of them all. He overcame his own doubts. Cause he had a chance to run away. Yet, he ran headlong into the jaws of death and saved everyone.
Poor guy…. At least he sacrificed himself to save his squad by being extremely brave. And THATS what matters… it doesn’t matter if you think that you’re worthy or not, it’s the courage to do what you truly think is right is what counts.
He died as a Hero So what he believes is wrong He is Worthy more than He thinks He had the True spirit of the Green lantern corp being Selfless and Will powered Rest In Peace Shynt I Hope the writers will Bring you back as a wielder of Blue lantern
Truly beautifully poetic irony. He gave his life for a noble cause, in hopes his ring would find someone truly worthy, when it already did. Rest well, Shynt. You are at peace.
In the end, Shynt displayed the kind of courage, honor, and willpower that would absolutely qualify him as worthy of a Green Lantern ring. Hal Jordan would be very proud of him.
Someone who despite not thinking they were worthy proved their worth by showing the willpower to sacrifice themselves for what they thought would be a better successor... *Salute*
In the end, he was worthy. Ending his life so the ring could find someone he deems worthier than himself speaks volumes about how noble he was(idk anything about him besides this short)
The fact he looked death in the eyes and ran towards it. With the intention of saving his squad above the intent of merely wnding it. Just proves he was, in fact, worthy of his ring.
The willpower needed to know you aren’t supposed to have the ring and are supposedly easily manipulated but still fight for your comrades and sacrifice yourself for the greater good proves he was worthy, both on a moral level and in terms of having willpower. Shynt deserved the ring
It's a hard and beautiful thing to accept that the role you thought was supposed to be yours, you're not cut out for, but to want to do everything you can to make sure someone better could do everything and more than what you dreamed you could.
I’m pretty sure that’s what James Gunn wants to do with the “Lanterns,” project in the works. He said Hal and John will be the 2 main lanterns in the show, but tons of lanterns from across the comics will be featured as side character
You get a green lantern ring by having willpower. He might not have fit that bill in the beginning but he earned his place. To have the willpower to look at the fact your biggest dream has come true and be able to face the fact it isn’t, and not only that but discover it yourself and accept it instead of being in denial takes great strength
Honestly this shows that despite the manipulation the rings still seek someone with strong will power and while he might’ve not been worthy he shows that being worthy doesn’t matter as long as you use the power for good
Easily manipulated doesn’t mean evil or incompetent. It means they trust too much and lack the wisdom to see through the actions of others. His sacrifice may have been avoided, but it was his choice and his act of defiance against those who thought they knew him better than he did.
Little did he know that by feeling this way and hoping that the ring would find a good home he was the most suited to wield that ring no matter what the reason he may have initially received was.
I think there’s more layers to the truth. What if there was no manipulation and that was his test. It wasn’t about him being easily manipulated instead defying his own self value in pursuit of a higher power and a noble sacrifice. His failure of his test was also his success. That defiance probably felt rewarding instead of despair inducing. A light in darkness if you will
Let this be an encouragement to those who don’t feel worthy of life.. Don’t give it up because there is light at the end of the tunnel.. You’ll never know how much of an impact you can have on somebody’s life if you end yours…
Dude, this got me misty eyed for real. I fckn *LOVE* Green Lanterns so it would be absolutely heartbreaking to find out id been recruited bcz i wasnt worthy. I feel Shints pain frfr.
I genuinely think Shynt was chosen because he was worthy, but he was so caught up in his own head about it that he crushed himself into thinking passing the veil was the only way to go. He then proved the ring chose him for the right reasons when he willed himself to be a sacrifice.
He earned his ring with his dying breathe. His start may not have been amazing, but ending was glorious and deserving the title and legacy of a Green Lantern
Man you are more than worthy for the ring when you design to sacrifice yourself to save your team, how many will power you have to use against that, you are more than worthy man
RIP Shynt. He may not have started out as a true Green Lantern, but he damn sure earned that title
Godspeed Shynt Godspeed

Shynt's sacrifice and ability to identify himself as being "unworthy" is what truly makes Shynt actually *worthy*
We need more Back-Up stories like this one, cause this one was incredible
They need to bring back ‘Green Lantern Corps Quarterly’ but maybe published a little more often than quarterly lol
The irony of this is by sacrificing his life for his comrades and duty he showed that the ring chose right. He was worthy.
Exactly, don’t let it be corrupted, a true hero.
I bet he's gonna come back as a blue lantern or something.
Would not surprise me
Wow I didn’t realize Spider-man writers worked on Green Lantern too.
Little did he knew that someone brave and worthy was him.
He died as a Hero
So what he believes is wrong
He is Worthy more than He thinks
He had the True spirit of the Green lantern corp
being Selfless and Will powered

GL corps is literally my favourite part about DC. I love it. RR fcked up in LA.
But Emrald knights made me love GL corps.
Sadly enough having the will to give up his life to save his squad is exactly what made him worthy.
😭😭😭 Green Lantern needs way more love, imagine a tv show or something where its mostly stories of varuous GLs
I would love a story of hal and Kyle they've shown up but the stories are always mutilated
