Retook my mod 2 today.... Passed with 1 minor for excessive speed for about 5 seconds, well chuffed. You were right never give up.Thanks for all your videos, they are invaluable.
RJH Motorbike Training thanks mate, something big and comfortable lol, Im getting old and creaking, hahaha been looking at a few, toss up between Honda silverwing, pan European or yamaha fjr.
the shoulder checks at the beginning made me laugh, but all good. on 3 left handers he approached in position 2 and hence ran wide. other than that his observations, general positioning and forward planning were excellent. if i may humbly say ;)
Thanks for your videos Rob,been watching them for the last month and passed my mod 2 yesterday.Living the dream now or mid life crisis if you ask my wife. One bit of advice I would give to anyone is to not be to cautious about getting up to speed limits,my examiner almost failed me for not getting a f&&ing move on as he put it .Said he would rather I was a bit over the limit than under!!Also before the independent ride he told me to pull over got off his bike strolled up beside my bike,at this point I thought I had messed up with some dangerous riding fault , then he just said this is the independent ride follow the signs etc..
Good news Craig, glad to hear the videos have helped and that you passed your Module 2. Where did you pass fella? And what bike are you getting or have you got one?
Test was today. Friday i received a text saying the bike had broken down and was unavailable for the test. Thursday was the last day i could cancel. Contacted another company which said they would let me use their bike for £120 but would include a 2 hr lesson before the test. About to go through with it, they wanted me to pay by card the day before the test but i said id rather pay cash in the morning. An hour later their bike had also broken down. So annoyed. Perfect weather for it today and i had no bike to go and do the test. Now to wait to hear back about the bike from my instructor and book a new test, although it looks like august is the soonest without cancellations.
i got my mot 1 on saturday this week then thursday mot 2 if i pass haha its in acotland in dundee and im riding on a 125cc ksr code now and git a 250r kawasaki ninja :D yeah videos are help ful as we can see what to do and what to expect thats a good start for the lessons ;) :)
Great video, as are all of yours, clear and concise. I think the system of testing is wrong though, I think your instructor should be able to sign you off as competent as they do on a CBT. Your instructor sees you riding far more than the examiner, and the examiner sees you at your worst, when you're under pressure, and only for 40 minutes. I've got my MOD 2 on Monday and have watched your videos many times. I can ride a bike, but doing it perfectly on the day, who knows.
I've got a 1250 Bandit SALO. It's been in the garage for weeks waiting for my test date. I've just been out on it for the first time and it felt brilliant.
Really appreciate these videos, I've been watching a ton recently. I failed my Mod 2 first time at Darwen and I'm looking to rebook it but this time in London. From an instructors point of view, what can I expect to be the main differences? Besides traffic and lower speed limits? I'm feeling nervous as I think it's going to be harder in London as there's more going on at one time! Any tips? Cheers!!
You hit it on the head!! Darwen is Rural, country bends and national speed limits which if your used to riding in town then you can struggle. (I would like to know why you failed) its normally positioning on bends and speeds. London will be different, similar to the City in Manchester. Make sure your comfortable with bus lanes etc..... Keep us posted and keep watching the videos.
+Andrew Wallace had to bin it off due to projectile vomit. What a knightmare. I'm going to have to start over again in a month or 2 now as theory test expires in a few weeks! Doh!
I would be interested to know the sort of time scale generally expected for the das. I am doing mine right now and am a little concerned i havent had much time on the bike. Cbt on 700cc 2hrs off road and 2hrs on road Module 1 2 hrs training then the test (passed no minors) Module 2 2hrs training on the road 4 days before test and another 2 hrs due 2 days before my test. Having not ridden a bike before i have no bench mark and i feel comfortable operating the bike properly. I did however think the training might be a little more intensive and lengthy. Would appreciate your opinion Have enjoyed watching your videos
Adrian Cowper Don’t compare we are all different at taking on new skills. All schools operate differently too. If your Instructor is happy then that’s good, in sure if he wasn’t he would tell you. Keep us posted and glad the videos help you.
Thanks for the reply. So far the experience has been pretty straight forward and as you say my instructor is confident in my ability. I think prior to learning i have built up a concept of what it would be like, i expected it to be challenging. So far the experience has been pretty frictionless which i have found disconcerting. Test on monday weather permitting. I will post the outcome, again thanks for the vids, your module 1 helped a lot.
Further to my last post I had the test cancelled due to bad weather and rescheduled today. After a terrible lesson yesterday with confidence at a low I manage to scrape a pass today with excellent riding and poor observation. Much still to learn on my motorbike journey.
Hi RJH. I have my mod 2 tomorrow and looking for your expertise. When they ask you to pull over into a safe place can I use the double yellow lines? Sure you get asked this all the time
I passed my mod 2 today. I can only say a huge thank you to RJH. The clarity and quality of your videos really helped me understand how to progress through CBT, mod 1 and mod 2. But more importantly you’ve helped to build my road safety. Thanks and you should be extremely proud of your content and reach
I have my test on Wednesday at Atherton. Any particular areas on the test routes where many people slip up? I know about the bus lanes going up Newbrook. My test is at 1pm!
+RJH Motorbike Training Manchester Thanks very much. Yes I know Chequerbent well too I was once knocked off my pushbike there!! Very painful!! It is a confusing roundabout.....A lot of the road signs in that area are obscured by foliage and dirty or damaged as well, a bit of a cheek considering the penalty for not adhering to them!!
+RJH Motorbike Training Manchester John at Fresh Start. I had a bit of a look on the net, I didn't come across you until I saw your videos and I had already paid for the DAS course by then. I have been watching your vids religiously.
In this video, motorbike uses the bus lane, Is this because its a weekend or time wise out of the time zone? Or is there something im missing? 10.50 to be sepecific
see when u asked him to turn left most times is it because he wasnt doing it properly or, if the examinator tells u same turns or manovers does it mean its there something wrong, would appriciate help started doing A2 :D
Not at all. Your test will be as much of a variation as possible. Your Examiner will tell you where to go, and might get you moving off many times, doesnt mean youve done anything wrong at all.
what is the dominant road position when riding normally? not for turns or junctions just straight forward roads? are you also required to use advanced cornering when turning at higher speeds, say country roads ,ie ride closer to the outside left of your lane for roads that curve to the right on your mod 2? thanks
Good questions Lee. If I refer to 3 road positions in your lane to simplify it ok. Position 1 to turn left Position 3 to turn right and Position 2 for normal riding. However the KEY here is to be flexible depending on lots of things such as obstructions, road surface to name a few. Bends on a Module 2 are not advanced standard, so again simplify it, right hand bend Position 1 if of benefit ie visability, and Position 2 on a left hand bend, but again be flexible. Examiners don't like to see Position 3 on a left hand bend and also don't like braking on bends. Hope this helps.
Yes it does, I kept my positioning to a minimum on bends favouring a dominant position but used all my 1,2,3 positions for all turns and roundabouts when safely appropriate. My examiner failed me for riding in position 2 saying this is where all the oil and rubbish gathers. Are you expected to ride in the advanced positions on your test? And where is the best position in the centre of your Lane for normal no hazard riding? Thanks for any input :-)
Oh dear so your Examiner failed you for positioning? Where exactly? Normal or bends? Was it a wet day? Were the road conditions showing petrol/diesel in position 2? It does sound harsh, however it might be that the particular Examiner/Test Center has this as quirk to the route and if so your Instructor could of given you a heads up? What did your Instructor say? Which Test Center was it?
He said it's prefered to stop and have your left foot down as your right foot is still on the brake, but he also said its totally up to me as I feel like i'm always going to drop the bike if its left foot down.
+sebastian penny Well you need to overcome that!! We would always teach "control position" even on CBT so I'm suprised to hear that your Instuctor said its up to you!! On test you would more likely struggle if you were not stopping in the control position, as its not using the co-ordination we require.
DAS is "Direct Access" is an historical term used now Category A. So A1 is 17-19, A2 is 19-24 and A is 24+. All categories have to complete Mod 1 and Mod 2

I passed my CBT and das in a week without ever riding a bike apart from in a car park a few times. Very easy if you drive a car
Took my test in Halifax and hopefully getting my hands on a 600 bandit this week, thanks again Rob.
Well done fella, nice bikes Bandits. You can join us on one of our Advanced Workshops in the future :-)
Passed my DAS week ago. It is easier than it looks. Still stress as hell :)

1:15 What was with those shoulder checks.. How long had he been riding when he took this test?
+6Twisted Think he was unwinding :-)
that should be made into a gif . . . "when you REALLY want the examiner to see you doing shoulder checks !"
Probably more the fact that you want to make sure the instructor has seen you do it before taking off

you sometimes do a lifesaver at junctions turning left and sometimes not, is this because you are sometimes in position 1 and sometimes not?
