I appreciate the use of the stock military tire. I once asked Victor my school bus driver why he "drove across France" on a bidirectional tread. "So the enemy can't readily tell which way we went".
Yeah, there are literally Army Jeep road queens everywhere these days...at the mall, parked outside of Starbucks, going through fast food drive thrus. Teenager girls doing their lipstick in the mirrors at stop lights in old 1941 Willys. You know she ain't taking that thing on the Rubicon trail. It's enough to make you sick.
Miss my father Willys Jeep after watching this video. Maintaining the engine, gear box, whatever mechanism this iconic vehicle have was a Art. Good to see people are still keeping in shape. A hardcore Grandpa of all off-roaders we have now.
The old Jeeps used within their element are a very capable vehicle, I collect and restore US "M" series Military trucks so I get to spend a bit of time on logging roads with a bunch of buddies with WWII Jeeps its amazingly fun to watch but these are all fully restored to way better than brand new condition and I have never seen anybody push things, not even a little bit!
Admittedly now that I look at this video, I can't help but frown at all this. If I were a GI, unless there was an absolute need to do this, I wouldn't put a vintage jeep through all this. Then again, thats just me. I'm not a GI, and I have to say it wouldn't surprise me if the GIs back then had to do stuff like this! It's just in this day and age, I'd be babying my vintage jeep.
Mud, don't get me wrong but I love my doors, (2). It keeps me warm and dry. I also love the 3/4 rule in brush. Windows up 3/4 way up so you don't get slapped in the face. Must say though, the old ones look far better than my 93.
When I was a kid my dads willys did just like these jeeps, get stuck in the mud very easy. But when he put dual wheels on it was unstoppable. That thing will climb almost straight up.and it goes thru mud with no problems. Love them ol flat fender willys. That's when jeeps where real jeeps. Unlike these new BARBIE JEEPS that are owned by FIAT.
nice to see others using their willys the same way i use mine, makes me feel a little less odd..Im running a 1952 M38 CDN restored completely stock and I can get to spots my friends newer jeeps and side by sides cant, this is what we do for entertainment in northern ontario canada..I only maintain it,so reliable its my backup vehicle as a daily driver..that stock 134 flathead will get almost 400km on $20 if you turn the fuel screws all the way in and back them out 2 turns and cut the air supply down a bit...Also,Massey Tractor points and condenser fit nicely, are better quality and last forever without any replacement or adjustment after installing, food for thought..keep up the good work lads
Off roading on NDT's, now _that's_ bravery!! :) I always liked the look of the rope on the front. I bought some cheap 2" manila rope to hang on the front of my CJ-7. I wrapped it on and spliced it in place since I wouldn't use it for actual recovery. Hopefully you can find some period attachment points to put on the front. I suppose those, and factory winches, are probably as rare as hen's teeth.
I rekonize that one guy from the cover of a jeep magazine, you guys got guts, I love the old jeeps but my back can't take the rough ride. I have a 57 I'm starting on, not a ww2, it has the hurricane, not the go devil..ha.
What tyre pressures were you running? Looked quite high on the Willy's could be the reason you were struggling in those muddy conditions. Great vid cheers
Bam Bam has lockers and the other doesn't. That and a LOT of skill can make the old MB and CJ2A go a lot of places. And go some places that the newer and bigger Jeeps and pickups etc can't get to or thru.
Can't beat the coolness factor of a WW2 Jeep, but in reality they don't work anywhere close to as good as a modern Jeep off road. Glad to see some people not afraid to get them dirty though.
good video as allways even jpet snuck in there didnt he. be fun to hit those trails man i gotta get me a flat fender jeep i love them but for now my m38a1 will do.
99% of the GIs (general issues) in WWII had never even seen a 4WD vehicle, let alone driven one. They must have been dumbfounded at how much more capable a WWII jeep was compared to anything they had driven before. OK.Two questions. 1) How does the Freedom Drive II system on Patriots and Compasses compare to stock WWII jeeps for overall off pavement capability? Same question but if you take mud out of the equation i.e. how would they compare (for capability) if you only drive them on primitive (unimproved) backroads when they are dry?
4wd had been around for a long time by then, but it was rare because it normally *doubled* the cost of the vehicle back then. Imagine if that was still true? Even back in the 80's, I remember most trucks still being 2wd, now it's hard to even find a 2wd truck.
Very nice video, I can see that our are using 700 tires instead of a 600 the original wheel size. Are they making some better difference on off road and specialy on mudy parts ?
not sure whats going on but it seems that no one knows anything about the willys 4 wheel drive low gears. going fast is not always the best way to go. I was shocked that a new jeep had to tow a willys the rest of the way up that hill. Put it in 4wd low and you can climb up a tree.
it should be the other way round: I. e. the old jeep should pull the new. it has full pack of 2100cc of punch power. new model Jeeps don't have the crawling capability like oldies.
+Ken MacMillan My Jeep, the same orange one in the Haspin Acres video is a converted CJ to MB tub. The medic Jeep is a CJ with MB body, but someone put in the side gas filler. And Bam Bam has an original tub but has a custom drivetrain. But they are purdy.
5:45 Steroid Jeep to the rescue!!! I wouldn't mind a newer Jeep if they didn't look so beefy and such compared to the beauties they're assisting up the slip'n'slide hill.
I'm glad there was no music playing . Love the way the motor sounds.
I love these old jeeps. They still hold their own in most scenarios. They could use a pair of lockers though, but that goes for most 4x4s.
Man, people love Jeeps - to this very day. Really fun to see the originals in action, and understand where that came from. Thanks.
I appreciate the use of the stock military tire. I once asked Victor my school bus driver why he "drove across France" on a bidirectional tread. "So the enemy can't readily tell which way we went".
👍🤐
I love seeing these old military Jeeps still off road and using them like they were meant to be. Too many Army Jeep road queens out there these days.
TrailRecon or "Pavement Princesses"!

made in the 40s still better looking than jeeps now days
Ikr
Agree
If I had to get something new, Id get a Mahindra ROXR, because its basically a re-pop of a 1945 Willys.
@@VinnyMartello and you'd be supporting china.
Jeeps are beautifully kept stock, and the drivers are pretty skilled. Good show!
Miss my father Willys Jeep after watching this video. Maintaining the engine, gear box, whatever mechanism this iconic vehicle have was a Art. Good to see people are still keeping in shape. A hardcore Grandpa of all off-roaders we have now.
I take it all back . It's got to be the Coolest 1/4 ton truck in all of History

i love watching old machines working like new and being used how they should be used
When men were men and jeeps were rugged!
Now all new jeeps are high school cars for spoiled girls
The Jeep name came from GP, standing for General Purpose. That's ironic because Jeeps nowadays don't have any purpose.
@@MistahFox HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Owner of a 1943 GPW. Love the old work horses. Sure technology has come along ways but there is some thing to be said for running the originals!
I have a 1944 willys .when it is done I plan to use it .drive it and 4x4 it also.AWSOME nice to see them driven as intended
How many dollars is it?
A well fitting set of WWII era tire chains would be a great addition to the basic tool kit.
Putting jewelry on your tires makes a big difference guys.
I remember drooling over the Willys in the opening of M.A.S.H when I was 5 ^_^
It's a real beauty, and I'm a proud owner of one, 1947 model💪
Notice how the real jeeps don't have 4 doors.
+gatewaysolo104 SO TRUE
"Real Jeeps" don't have any doors.
So damn true.
+gatewaysolo104
Yep, and it's dangerous.
I once almost flew out of the side on a sharp curve.

Aw how nice seeing baby Jeeps playing with great grandfather Jeep :3
I had a dream where I was driving one of these in the country, best dream ever.

Glad to see you guys wheeling those classic Jeeps.
this whole video is basically jeep pr0n....and I LOVE it!!!

I love these Jeeps.
Loved it, thanks!
You SERIOUSLY need to buy some chains

I love the Willis keeps there my favorite vehicle

Those Stock military stagger cleat tires are the worst for any kind of traction. Get the John Deere 6.00x16 AG tires. They kick ass!
I wish they would make cheap basic jeeps like this nowadays rather than these modern jeeps full of computers
Mahindra Roxor
Wow so capable OFF ROAD!!!
Nice footage, would love to take a vehicle out the next time you guys go, looked like a heckuva lot of fun.
had a '54 with the flat 4 in it, kicking my self now for selling it while I was in the Navy. young and dumb. lol
Add some lockers in those axels, and they would do better.
What tyre pressures were you running? Looked quite high on the Willy's could be the reason you were struggling in those muddy conditions. Great vid cheers

Now if only they could keep those modern day capabilities and lose that "steroided" look.
I see Bam Bam and Stan in Grandpa's Jeep going thru stuff better than some of the new Jeeps. Skill goes a long way too.

At the 2:45 mark. You hear it trying to start. The starter sound like a Toyota starting.

Careful. Might get it dirty.

Hermosa maquina saludos desde San Luis Argentina!!!!!
Do you guys experience much issues from frame flex? Body mounts being ripped ect??
Be nice if you had front and rear Differential locks. They would not spin out then.
i feel so bad for those war vets, drive em' dont beat on em' damn...
Neither one is actually a WWII Jeep.
Where’s the anti decapitation rod for the front
Is it legal to drive those awesome jeeps on roads?
Yes but very low top speed lol
Me gustaría tener uno de esos...pero imagino que será costoso y también el mantenimiento...
Nice jeep

One of them has wider tires or something?
The willys mb looks like sarge from cars the movie.
Love the video

Anyone have an idea of what the stock breakover angle is on one of these old beauties?
Something looks odd about the tires on those Jeeps.
What size are they?
7.50
@@TurnNBurn Strange. They look bigger. Ok, thanks.
If it had Two more G. D. cylinders it could make it up the hill
I love us army jeep so much 💜
We're can I buy a willys jeep at
sind das originale willys Jeep?
What size NDTs are those (inches high)?
Mine is 7.00x16 and Bam Bam is 7.50x16. About 30.5" and 31.5" respectively.
Thank you!! Y'all have beautiful jeeps!! 👍🏻
I have one siting in a barn for so many years Says US
Harga?
Anyone know anyone whos selling one of these in Kentucky or surrounding states
I love them!
Watch this makes me want to go and buy a M1911
Intéressant
#1 Let some air out of those tires!! #2 Put them on a trailer and come play with me in MOab Utah!
Some of these have larger engines than stock, right?
Giacomo Chizzola Just the one with the full top
Yes that sounds larger, and with more cylinders perhaps
MuddOxRacing where do you find these things
One of those jeeps has a cj2a tub.
Yeah, I saw the gas filler. That's what made me think cj2a.
+MuddOxRacing Have they got lift kits? or Bigger tires? they look to have Decent tires and ground clearance!
Or are they factory?
Bam Bam is all upgraded underneath, the rest are bone stock
Be careful when climbing a hill when you have a jeep without roll bar.
wrong tires but lot of fun
What is the HP on these Jeeps??
60 HP stock. Bam Bam has a 4.3 Vortec.
+Ferguson101 The coolest flatfender motor I heard of was a 3B with a Ford 2.3 Turbo in it. :) JMO
Go Willy!
nice...i restored both my 1942 willys and my dads 1943 ford jeep there on my channel if u wanna check them out..
whats the difference between the 42 and 43?
not much, the front cross member is round on the willys...on the ford its square shaped...parts intermigle with each other.
My dream car
To bad tall and skinny tires are no longer in vogue
@ 5:58. Grampa was a small lad. The new jeep looks like a full size suv compared to that go cart
"Max-Flex" @13:24 :)
They are the worst tires ever
nice
