Asheboro is coming along well now. I love seeing the new businesses on sunset growing. It's became so quaint. I think we are finally growing and seeing better times. We all want to be able to take care of our families. No matter what party you vote for.
And yet they can't be bothered to fix the parking lots. Half of them are pot hole ridden and have narrow entrances. The rest are gravel. And none of them are easy to get into because of the narrow roads.
The enthusiasm & gumption the Jenny's Pickles owner demonstrates is what we all need to make it through. "Think outside the jar" as she says, look for opportunities, be positive as you can be.
Would love to see 60 minutes come back and do a new story on how great things are doing now. MAny new companies and manufacturing, new businesses... even Ramseur is also doing better.
Even if it was not mentioned in this report, five will get you 10 that most of those 5 million lost manufacturing jobs were replaced by service jobs that pay much less. You don't need to be a Harvard MBA to figure out that if an economy continues to replace it's manufacturing base, where most of high-paying jobs are, with lower-paying jobs, it's economy is going to eventually start to shrink. The only reason why that hasn't happened yet is because many people are living off credit or government assistance and that is helping to fill the gap somewhat. As Joseph Stiglitz said, America is becoming a rich nation with poor people. But how long is that going to last?
Randolph County is full of very nice people. While in school I spent a lot of time around Farmer and the Uwharrie National Forest. I hope this area makes an economic come back. Good memories!
I worked with the lady that was talking at the end of the video sugar was her name I worked with her at energizer she is a very sweet lady.. I grow up in asheboro it’s come along ways since the 1980s when I was little now it’s rebuilding..
My father grew up down the road in Pittsboro and my best friends father grew up in Ramseur. They both used to tell us about working in the "mills" whether it be hosiery or brick. They both married and moved to Raleigh where we were born and raised. I remember driving through the small towns along US64 and it hit hard how dead they were not even an hours drive away from 4 major metropolitan areas in North Carolina......
I grew up in a house on 64 in Ramseur and I watched the town go from its busiest as a child to its death by the time I graduated high school. It was sad to watch.
Its like people and jobs have abandoned these small towns with not a lot to offer for close by towns that were just in the right random location, and have grown exponentially that are now big cities. EVERYONE in NC lives in either Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte, or around Asheville, unless they are in college, military, farming, or on vacation/retired... Everyone else lives in some small has been town working a crappy job just barely existing cause its all they know or have... These days when people turn of age, they usually try and abandon these small towns for better dreams, not hang around and just live to get by like people use to do...
@@thetruthandnothingbutthetr6484 I'd consider Wilmington more of a small town than a City. Not a whole lot of jobs...the economy there is seasonal and booming in the summer and slows down in the winter. Beautiful place...

It really ticks me off that this lie is still online. FORBES NEVER CAME HERE. They never called. They never did any current research. Instead, they pulled OLD NEWS and used it as current. Many of us called FORBES to try and talk with the writer, but we had little success. PLEASE do NOT refer to this video as the current situation. Asheboro is THRIVING. We have a wonderful, booming downtown with locally-owned shops and restaurants. We have been rewarded as a Main Street city and an All-American City. Life here is good. Businesses are coming here, including TOYOTA, who recently announced a major commitment with 1,700 jobs. So please please please - do not put any value into this video. I know people who are and it is wrong. The video is wrong. I love Asheboro and am very pleased about how much we have grown. I have lived in other places and I love calling Asheboro home.
cacoca79 The cost of employment would have made the price of the product too much for people to want to buy. It would "price him out of the market" in business speak.
I live here good folk's with the exception of the young crowd most are on drugs or lazy the best thing we have is Caraway speedway and it's not the same since Russell passed away
Well there ain't exactly a lot for the young folks in Asheboro or the surrounding area. Half of the things built are for older people, doctors offices, dentists, lawyers, real estate agents, and most of the stores are bad junk shops or weird vintage boutiques. There's nothing for teenagers to do except be hoodlums so they become hoodlums.
So happy to say were doing so much better. Almost all sunset is full. We have Hops, & antique stores, tattoo shops, the table, magnolia..etc.

Like Detroit or Camden New Jersey just in the south. Plus I’m sure those two cities start out as nice as this town before the violence.
