These guides are fantastic. Concise and easily understandable. I really like how you explain the order of skills that are priorities when doing something like approaching a trash pack and why. Great video length and editing too.
Thank you so much for all the detail of the build and explaining EVERYTHING! I wasn’t sure about building a warden tank but I’m very confident it will work great. Keep up the awesome work. Following you.
2:14 Armor mitigation by weight: Chest > others > hands > waist. Where waist provides the smallest amount of resistance from any slot and arms is the next smallest with chest providing the most. Meaning you want a light belt and medium gloves for optimum armor values when running the 3 type setup. 10:27 Race: Arguable. For sustain, Imperial is bis. For ultimate generation Nord is bis. Dragon Knight for example benefits greatly from dumping excess Ultimate into their ults as they get resources back based on ultimate used, which is also part of their classes sustain package. For other classes that don't need to be at full ultimate all the time as they don't benefit from excess ultimate Imperial is yet again a strong option. Especially for classes that struggle with managing stamina/magicka. Side note on armor, its effect on damage mitigation, and why it's common to run 23k instead of the cap: mitigation is multiplicative meaning 50% damage reduction from the armor cap (33000/660 = 50%) and the base block value (50%) is the product of 1-(0.5 * 0.5 = 0.75) => 75% mitigation. There's really no point in getting up to +90% mitigation because by the time you reach 80% pretty nothing will one-shot you so you might as well focus on something else that helps you more in clearing whatever content you're doing. And due to buffs & debuffs like: aegis, evasion, maim, protection, and resolve being so common in various classes tank kits (nevermind all the other damage reduction CP's that are available and the mountain load of block value enhancements) you will reach the damage mitigation threshold almost instantaneously. Which gives you a lot of "flex" room for various utilities. And those buffs are also multiplicative too so, armor cap * block * minor protection * major protection = 1- (0.5*0.5*0.05*0.1) => 99.8%
About armor weight - yes you can do that when running Nazaray, when running Spaulder you're kinda blocked because Spaulder has to be light I disagree about race. Imperial's tiny bonus to sustain is nothing compared to Nord's armor bonus. Where is it common to run 23k armor? Because if you'd step a foot in Rockgrove hard mode with 23k armor you'd melt on Bahsei fight. I can also already tell you that the same ridiculous DoT damage is present in the new trial that's on PTS right now. In dungeons Arkasis is a similar example of a fight with hard hitting DoT. Even when there is no absurd damage incoming like in those 3 fights I mentioned, armor is still one of the best stats to stack because it'll allow you to spend less GCDs using defensive abilities and more using abilities that debuff enemies or buff your teammates. Just because nothing will one-shot you doesn't mean there is no point in getting more armor. You should always strive for armor cap Armor cap * Block * Minor Protection * Major Protection = 1-((1-0.5)*(1-0.5)*(1*0.05)*(1-0.1)) = 0.78625 so 78.625% damage reduction, but against DoTs (which are your main concern in newer content) you have to exclude block so it becomes 57.25% If you were to run 23k armor your mitigation against DoTs would be 44.2% (ignoring CP since it was also ignored in previous calculation)
it's really a minimal thing, but i think shock enchant on trash setup staff would contribute more than non-infused crusher. basically just adds minor vuln proc to your first light attack rather than 1.3k pen, which is a greater boost unless you have vuln from another source.
Yeah that's true if you're not already running Shock on frontbar, I think with frontbar it's also easier to make sure it isn't wasted on some irrelevant small add because your backbar enchant can be procced by Elemental Blockade and Pulsar, while frontbar will be procced by Pierce Armor which usually goes on priority adds first
Amazing guide, thank you :D question though: if I run PA on jewl/backbar is it bad to swap caltrops to my backbar to proc PA and then have frost cloak on front bar instead? thats what I've been doing instead of slotting vigor on back and don't really know how much this affects things
Yeah you can, since you're talking about Caltrops I'm assuming this is about trash setup so just remember that you might have to cast Caltrops twice since first cast will most likely be while you're out of combat so it won't proc PA, for bosses Caltrops is usually not needed and Vigor is the way to go
I dont wanna say its useless cuz there's probably some niche use for it, but in dungeons I think it's better to stick with one handed and shield's Pierce Armor, and in trials in decent groups DDs will provide Major Breach with Boneyard and Minor Breach with Sundered procs
Thank you for the video, that's gonna help a lot I just a have a question (if u can help me) ^^ Do u think a breton + the lady mundus stone can be equivalent to a nord + atronach mundus stone ? i would like play breton BUT if nord is really better i go nord :)
hi, im planning on making a warden build using baron zaudrus monster helm, arkasis genius and a variation of drakes rush/war machine/master architect/automated defense. the idea being that because lots of status effects are very easy to apply with warden, then with zaudrus helm ulti generation will be insane, and then i can use ultimate to provide either better damage or better survival for the group. i thought of this mainly for 4 man content. is this a little far fetched, or could it work well?
I can't really judge what's too far fetched for you cuz idk how much performance are you willing to sacrifice to have more fun with a build. These are going to work worse than the weapon dmg/penetration/major vuln sets mentioned in this video (and the new one), I'd say out of all the sets you mentioned Baron Zaudrus/Drake's Rush/War Machine would be best setup
There will be an updated Warden guide soon but this one is still mostly up to date, biggest change is that you dont need Inner Rage anymore cuz Destructive Clench has increased range so you get a free skill slot
Love these build videos. Are you planning to do a sorc tank video by chance? Also, is Powerful Assault worthwhile if you have a healer providing major courage and running master architect?
Not at the moment, the fact that Sorc's main heal takes up 2 slots makes it very bad for dungeons where you'll always be short on skill space. I managed to run without Clannfear but not against harder bosses and I just dont wanna recommend sth like that to new players The main issue with PA is that it takes up a skill slot, so you just have to make sure your healer runs Overflowing Altar instead of you and then you can use PA and slot Vigor. If your healer can't slot Altar (or if you want additional skill slot for some other utility skill) you can backbar Yolna instead of PA, it'll be easy to keep up since you'll be taunting from your backbar with Destructive Clench
Hey, I'll just copy my another comment from a different video because it was answering similar question "Sturdy loses a lot of value when you learn to stop permablocking and only block hits you actually need to block, increasing your damage mitigation with Reinforced pieces means you have to spend less GCDs on defensive skills and can cast more buffs/debuffs instead, on gear pieces with low base armor I like to run Divines to boost my magicka recovery, you could also run Sturdy or Well-Fitted on those but I feel like Divines is much more versatile and simply provides more resources, Sturdy and Well-Fitted have increasing returns with each next piece so running only 2 or 3 pieces of those traits makes them even more useless. There are of course cases where Divines is useless, like the Bahsei fight I just uploaded I'm at almost full magicka all the time so it'd be better to run Well-Fitted, Sturdy or Nirnhoned."
Is there any pros and cons to running leash vs frozen device? I've always used device because I find it easier to sustain but I see many other warden tanks running leash instead.
As Rasmus already said Frozen Device is slow, too slow to be used against trash packs, it can be useful in some cases against bosses and I probably should've put it in the guide as an alternative. It's great in static fights like Cloudrest or Blackrose Prison but I can't recall any dungeon fights where that's useful
Nord's racial armor bonus is way better than Imperial's ability cost reduction, also Nord's ulti gen racial scales better with sets like Saxhleel, War Machine and Nazaray
is a argonian warden tank good I have a argonian warden that I'm currently not doing anything with right know and not wanting to buy crowns to switch the race
It's not good but it doesn't mean you can't play it. It's a question only you can answer, Nord's armor passive translates to around 7% damage reduction and you need to make a decision if you wanna put more effort into reaching the same level as other ppl could
@@Hyperioxes ok thank you I might switch him to nord I have him as argonian so I can swap him between healer and tank My Necro tank is a imperial I really like that race
i got a question. So i have a 4 man group and we have a templar dps, necro dps, and warden healer. Would it be useless to be like a necro tank or warden tank as we already have the classes in our group? btw i’d like to see a sorc tank from you soon 😉
It wouldn't be useless, just less optimal but that only matters depending on what expectations you set for your group. You can absolutely complete any content with the team comps you mentioned, there's no point in switching to for example DK for a slight DPS gain if you enjoy playing Necro or Warden. I plan on making a Sorc guide way later
@@Hyperioxes ahh gotcha, if i did go the route as picking the same class as on of those like necro or warden, all it would do is free a bar space for me or them. Good to know, ill stick to DK better
