Now granted, the tapes, the physical - the actual tapes on you own them. But the voice. The heart and soul and magic on those tapes? You don’t own that!!!
I’ve heard Ernie Anderson’s voice on ABC for years, even when I was a young boy. Years and years later, I saw the face behind the iconic voice here on TH-cam. He was one of television’s ‘golden throats.’
@@joshuawilliams7351 Smoking does attribute to a deep voice, in some cases. Ernie Anderson was no different. I just read in Wikipedia that he died of lung cancer in 1997, due to a life of smoking. So, yes.
I have always liked Ernie Anderson, I have always loved hearing his voice whenever he would be narrating & hosting a Documentary about a Movie & especially when he would be an announcer of ABC of when episodes of TV Shows are coming up & when Movies are coming up on ABC!!!!!! I have always had very nice, very wonderful & very special things that I can remember about Ernie Anderson being an announcer of ABC when I was a little boy!!!!!! I always thought that Ernie Anderson was a very nice & a very wonderful Man & he really did a very great & a very excellent job being an announcer of ABC, Ernie Anderson!!!!!! Rest In Peace, Ernie Anderson!!!!!!
On the early episodes of THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, which are rerun on MeTV now mixed in with the newer CAROL BURNETT & FRIENDS reruns, Carol would often introduce Ernie from the audience, and Ernie would stand up a bit & wave in acknowledgement. Later he took over for Lyle Waggoner as announcer after Lyle left the show.

He'll always be the voice of ABC. What a great iconic voice.
That's what I said!! He's the voice of ABC. What a beautiful voice!!!
His voice is ingrained in my subconscious from the 80s.
Here for the Paul Thomas Anderson comments. Legendary filmmaker that i didn't realize had a legendary father. Oh and PTA's got a lengendary wife too!
Same!!!
Icon!!!
I've always wondered who that was. Now I can die happy.

0:25 I wouldn’t have had the nerve to walk behind Ernie and start giving my spiel while he was working.
Damn didn’t realize what a baller PTA was. Can’t believe that kid shooting hoops with the old man created Dirk Diggler and There Will Be Blood!
Are you sure that's PTA, though? According to Wikipedia, Ernie Anderson had 9 children!
3:12 - I'm not sure, but the boy playing B-ball with the ol' man could possibly be Paul Thomas Anderson, future famous movie director.
It's almost certainly PTA.
2:16 - and there's the inspiration for Dirk's mom in Boogie Nights (Joanna Gleason said as much)
Ball Thomas Anderson!
I miss this era of TV. Many of of us grew up hearing Ernie. Love these posts

Do you think Camel or Marlboro was responsible for that, and his death to cancer?

Pretty magnificent to learn about this guy!
He is one of the all-time great voices! I wish he could still be with us doing those promos!
1 Of The Greatest Voice Actors Of The 20th Century, He'll Be Missed! Thank You For The Memories!
Next time on Staaaaar Trek The Next Generation! :)
Paul Thomas Anderson's father, I would never guess.

Hi
Great clip. There is not a lot of video of Ernie at work. He was unsurpassed!
Every teenager in Northeast Ohio was crazy about Ernie's "GHOULARDI!" in the early '60's. If you weren't there it sux to be you!
I grew up listening to this iconic voice!
There’s A young Paul Thomas Anderson in that clip.

Houlardi be king😂😂😂😂
Anderson also lent his voice to news opens and promos for ABC's affiliates. I wonder if he's done any for WJZ.
He did for 13 for their local and syndicated shows in the early eighties. (Including “HOUR MAGAZINE”)

Ghoulardi!!
Yep 👍🏻!
Ironically, Ghoulardi would be succeeded by G.I. Joe's Flint as the primary voice of ABC!!!
3:05 - Listen how Ernie Anderson could be compared to Danny Dark!
Or even Chuck Riley and Don LaFontaine!!!
Do we have an approx recording/air date for this gem?
Yes. Air date June 7, 1985. Thanks for watching!
