    Finaly, finaly a video of a Acela Cab Ride- oh yeah! Thank you very much G Kenson!!! You all should know that videos of cab rides of high speed trains from Europe (GB, France, Spain, Italy, Germany etc.) are regularly shown on youtube- in HD! ;)

    That tunnel is always my favorite. We take the amtrak from vermont occasionally. The tunnel i think is lit. My last time I went I had downed 3 glasses of whiskey before the ride. I fell asleep, got some drunken sickness food. And enjoyed the buzz. The hang over the next morning wasn't at all fun

    East River tunnels. North River tunnels are the Hudson River Tunnels to NJ. Thank you for posting this video.

      You are correct. This is what happens when you rush.

    Can you do more cab ride videos on the Acela Express please?

    If I'm not mistaken, I believe the beginning of this video was showing the potential split of where the interborough express will be... this section of track to hell gate is very interesting...

    Go to used to be two tracks on either side
    They ripped all those out
    Why would they do that ?

    Very poor quality-but better than nothing. Very few vids of the Hell Gate bridge operation.

      This was in the days before Iphone quality Have another that is longer and a little bit sharp. I just play them at a smaller screen size

      That's right, there are very few vids of this part of the NEC. So why are you complaining about the quality?!

      It looks like it's from an old news report on the TGV or something

    Very interesting. This is the line where the MTA wants to build additional stations and service to Penn Station?

    • @gkenson7497
      @gkenson7497  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are correct it is owned by Amtrak and diverges off the Metro North at Larchmont Station. Only Amtrak uses this set of tracks but Metro North is a no brainer just as the east side access to GCT. Speed was limited 100 mph back then. This video must be 10 years old or more but I thought to share it with Hell Gate fans.

      The Hell Gate Bridge line actually diverges at New Rochelle, the stop after Larchmont westbound.

    • @AngelMorales-db1zh
      @AngelMorales-db1zh ปีที่แล้ว

      Is new Rochelle

    Is that a third rail on the left hand side of the track ?
    Overhead lines and a third rail ?

    • @RandallHWood
      @RandallHWood ปีที่แล้ว +7

      These tracks are shared by Amtrak, NJ Transit, and LIRR. Amtrak and NJ Transit use overhead lines and LIRR uses third rail.

    My my figuring, the video starts about 3.1 miles before the Hell Gate bridge The train has just passed under Tiffany Street, Bronx.

    • @RodneyFarber
      @RodneyFarber ปีที่แล้ว

      I also found it interesting that the train used tunnel 1 going westbound. I had assumed that tunnels 1 & 3 were only used for eastbound trains with tunnels 2 & 4 used for westbound trains.

      You notice we went way over to eastern portal as maintenance shuffled us through a maze of switches.

      @JoeyLovesTrains ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gkenson7497 yeah. Never seen that before. I’ve been keeping a close eye on the Harold interlocking rebuild. Nearly all of the switches you went over are higher speed concrete moveable point switches now

      I was shocked at how many turnouts it took to get from the north side to the very south side of the track complex. Crazy!!
      Once the Amtrak bypasses are done, this won't happen again.

      That was not the usual as we couldn’t get over the maneuvering that time. Maintenance of the other tubes caused this on weekend day.

    • @JoeyLovesTrains
      @JoeyLovesTrains ปีที่แล้ว

      @@musicforaarre normally this doesn’t happen anyway. This was a special case, it usually crosses over twice to get into Line 2 which is where most Amtrak trains enter into Penn Station. Line 1 is normally an eastbound tunnel, not sure why it was being used as a westbound tunnel in this vid tho

    Compared to FAST trains in Europe or Asia well there is no comparison as those trains no matter the country are certainly better then this American version. They can't even record the event with a modern decent camera!!! Anyway and again I'm not impressed. This was like looking at something from the 1950's...

      @@gkenson7497 It's still a good catch then regardless. I thought it was railroad produced. The cell phones with cameras of today have come a long ways compared to models of that era 15+ years ago. Though I can't remember what phone I had then I'm sure I disliked it.
