Horror is a genre I've barely explored, mostly because I'm a huge wuss. Typically my TV Show viewings consist of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Worst Witch. This year I decided to expand my TV show knowledge and try and watch these horror TV Show fan favourites.

It always killed me when Buffy said "who's gonna take care of us". Just that one line shows how scared she is for the future without her mom.

I think the reason that Spike was willing to help Dawn try to resurrect Joyce was because he kind of wanted her back too.

I think he also knows what wanting something so desperately feels like, and tried to "get it out of her system" by going whole hog on the process.

It's interesting to see the continuation of exploring how pepple grieve. A great connection is also seeing that Giles is listening to the same song he and Joyce enjoyed during Band Candy.

Yep, my exact thought when the spell completed was "Come on now, no one wants to see a zombie Joyce.". No one. Thankful they spared us that.

The flash of zombie Joyce passing the window was more terrifying than any Sunnydale hell beast

We have a saying in Buffy fandom, The Body was about the shock, Forever was about the grief. The final scene between Buffy and Dawn is my favourite in all of Buffy and never makes me fail to cry.

I agree! Even though The Body is a much more masterful episode, the most emotional scene out of both is that scene in this episode. Sarah and Michelle do some of the best acting ever scene on TV here.

Really great ending scene and i love the fact the younger sister did the right choice at the end , next to Buffy who was lost and released her emotions

I've noticed that resurrections in this universe seem to get harder and more complicated proportional to how important the character is.

After the fallout from Joyce's death you can feel the pain of Dawn in Forever where she just can't accept her mother's death, and would do anything to being her back. This of course is a very basic human emotion experienced by many. You can see how Tara is annoyed with Willow for lending some assistance. Tara becomes very wary of Willow's increasing power, we can see the Willow/Tara power shift, and the tensions increasing with them. Another good point to be raised is the the anxiety and pressure of having to deal with arranging the funeral, wake, catering, etc even the admin involved after death in having to contact banks, pension companies, solicitors, etc etc etc it is really draining. Some terrific scenes with Dawn and Buffy at the end you can almost feel the anguish for the two of them. Brilliantly acted, again how this show did not receive awards is crazy, it should definitely be retrospectively recognised and awarded at the Emmys in the future for its contribution to TV drama

Joel Grey! Son of Mickey Katz and father of Jennifer Grey. Also the Emcee in the 1972 Bob Fosse movie Cabaret. He won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for it.

Love your reactions. This is a tough season for sure but still my favorite. Spike is an evil vampire. From his perspective having zombie Joyce around probably seems like a great idea. Stupid Ben. As a doctor you'd think he'd know how to make sure someone was dead.

I just watched Ian review this episode in his guides and while I agree with much of what he says in other episodes, I had issues with his opinion of disliking this one. The episode doesn't measure up to the previous one, but most television in general doesn't.

Regarding Joel Grey's character (the creepy guy who showed Dawn the spell), there a quote from later seasons that's going to become relevant.
    . . . Spoiler Space . . .
"Oh, there are others in this world who can do what you did. You just don't want to meet them".

You’re far enough ahead of this episode that I can say this and it’s no spoiler. When the demon plucks a hair from Dawns head and says that her mother could be resurrected he isn’t speaking of Joyce. Dawn was made FROM Buffy. And she was a good candidate for resurrection

I cannot stand Dawn. She is never likable and she’s a constant drain of energy. She has no redeeming qualities and I started to resent the show the minute she showed up.

You can't say that, she is just a kid with idendity problems, she knew she is a key as a human form and her mom died ! So her pain and behaviour are totally normal. She is young but did the right choice at the end

I actually love Dawn. Is she bratty? Yeah. But like...I wouldn't say more than an average amount for every day teenagers. She's gone through *a lot* over the course of this season, more than I could certainly handle at any age, let alone at 15. Dawn's whole world has crumbled more than once within the span of just a few months; I think she's allowed to react accordingly lol
