Saber is a lifesaver. One thing you might want to add for extra realism is a 'neon tube off' underlayer so it looks like it's flickering on from an actual object instead of popping in from nothing.

Great tutorial and great channel! Instant like and subscription! :) I'm trying to apply this to a simple Shape Layer but it's just not working. I've selected Layer Mask instead of Text Layer under the Core Type tab, tried to apply Saber directly to shape layer level or also to another upper level as you did on the video but still nothing. Guess I'm not that far from the solution but keep failing :( Can you help me?

Does saber disable the typewriter preset? Because I had a typewriter effect on my text layer before doing the first half of the tutorial without the animation and now my text doesn't type in anymore
Hi Thank you for your video. It was extremely helpful. Although I have an issue with the Saber, after applying the effect. I'm trying to animate my text, as in having it wiggle or any other movements (from other animation templates for example) And it doesn't work. The text doesn't show or it only shows the single neon bar. What could be the issue? Can I animate this text once Saber is applied?

Hi Laura, if you want to put it over something else, just keep it on black (or render it out on black) and when you comp it just set its blending mode to something like Add

Has anyone else come across a bug where the effect is not applied to the last chracter of the senetence? yet that character is visible? its freaking me out!
In case anyone else is struggling, I have found a solution! appearantly , as with many other things in Adobe, the problem is with adobe that supports any non - latin languges such as aisian or middle - eastern. just change your prefrences -> Type -> Latin. restart after effect and yay

open your vector in illustrator, then copy and paste the design directly onto a solid layer in After Effects (it will come in as a mask) then just use that as a mask;)
well I guess this tutorial is outdated now or something cuz this definitely does NOT work anymore. Yes great tutorial and easy to follow but i've done it 5 times and it never worked once. after you add saber and select that text layer in customize core... the neon lettering does NOT come up. it just disappears into black. And if you go to add or screen mode, its just regular text. saber never applies to it
@@ayoifeoni I mean I've done so many things with after effects and have had little to no problems. This is the only time a tutorial never worked and I've seriously done it 5 times

You can toggle on Switches/Modes at the bottom and then change the mode to Screen. That worked for me. :)

Maybe change the layer mode to "Screen" :)
You can put the picture or video where the background layer is and put the blacklayer blending mode as add or something :)✌🏻
i think using a mask for that may help

Can I make this without the black background, like a transparent background?
You could make a white glow on white text and use the result as a luma matte, then you can use the matte over any colour over any background

Does saber disable the typewriter preset? Because I had a typewriter effect on my text layer before doing the first half of the tutorial without the animation and now my text doesn't type in anymore

Hi Thank you for your video. It was extremely helpful. Although I have an issue with the Saber, after applying the effect. I'm trying to animate my text, as in having it wiggle or any other movements (from other animation templates for example) And it doesn't work. The text doesn't show or it only shows the single neon bar. What could be the issue? Can I animate this text once Saber is applied?

do the same process, place a mask on the text, then click on the text layer , go to blending mode, click "screen" it should work I got it :)

okay so im not sure if im doing something wrong but when i export it with a transparent background, and import it into obs, it still seems to have sort of a smokey, black transparent frame and background. Is it supposed to be that way?

Hi Laura, if you want to put it over something else, just keep it on black (or render it out on black) and when you comp it just set its blending mode to something like Add

hey im doing a project for my university and i want to add the saber effect on the layer but it actually change them and make them dissapeor or move in a weird way, i dont know what exactly to do. hopefully i can get some help here.

when I am doing the 'flickering' effect and change the opacity in certain frame rates, the time between of those frames, the opacity keeps increasing/decreasing, and I want it to stay stable at 100%

Has anyone else come across a bug where the effect is not applied to the last chracter of the senetence? yet that character is visible? its freaking me out!
In case anyone else is struggling, I have found a solution! appearantly , as with many other things in Adobe, the problem is with adobe that supports any non - latin languges such as aisian or middle - eastern. just change your prefrences -> Type -> Latin. restart after effect and yay

Convert your png to a vector and bring it in to AE as a mask and you're good to go;)

under the render section of the effect, there's an option to set it to transparent
I installed the plugin and it is no where to be found in the "presets and effects" tab on the right. Does anyone why is this happening? Thank you in advance

Hi! How do i make it work on Vector files pls? It does not work when i add the vector as mask
open your vector in illustrator, then copy and paste the design directly onto a solid layer in After Effects (it will come in as a mask) then just use that as a mask;)

well I guess this tutorial is outdated now or something cuz this definitely does NOT work anymore. Yes great tutorial and easy to follow but i've done it 5 times and it never worked once. after you add saber and select that text layer in customize core... the neon lettering does NOT come up. it just disappears into black. And if you go to add or screen mode, its just regular text. saber never applies to it
I think you're doing something wrong. Still works today on After Effects 2020
@@ayoifeoni I mean I've done so many things with after effects and have had little to no problems. This is the only time a tutorial never worked and I've seriously done it 5 times
