    I see people complaining about the speed of the tut, but Frankly I prefer the swiftness because it makes it a thousand times easier and come back to if I miss a step, mostly because you explain things pretty well. I watch a lot of tut's where it takes half the video to start a lesson and the audio is muffled and the presenter takes too long and lacks enthusiasm, so just gotta say I loved this one!

    there are a BUNCH of videos showing how to do this, but this is probably the easiest and least CPU taxing method i have seen. THANK YOU!!!

    make sure you select the alpha mat invert to your shape, like mine is layer 6 for the moving layer and layer 5 for for the line, when you drop your layer underneath layer 5, when you hit alpha mat you want to select not layer 6 alpha mat but layer 6 alpha mat inverted, that hides your text.

    You're a genius, thankyou! Also guys I found this out accidentally, but to reverse it so the "invisibox" goes over your text you can animate the lines width scale to gradually go down to 0%. Try it out ;) Thankyou again Caleb.

      I think the main issue people are having is that I'm not explaining the fundamentals. Like how to create text, move shapes, zoom into the image, basic keyboard shortcuts, etc. I agree, and personally think the tutorial is at a fine pace, but for people that are just learning After Effects, this is definitely advanced.

    Hi, thx for this tutorial. It's short and essential. One question - how would you do the line shortening (like at the beginning of this tutorial), because when I do this using scale, it is scaling with this mask that is parented to the line, If You would be kind to answer, it would be great. Thanks again for this tut.

    Great video! Can you tell me, what if you want to use two different text layers? Meaning the line reveals one text statement moves down and up, then a new text statement. Can you still do two alpha mattes to the same shape layer?

    • @caleblancaster
      @caleblancaster  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Precompose! Precompositions are one of the best solutions to most problems in After Effects. Take your two text layers, precompose them (with both highlighted press ctrl+shift+c) to make them one layer, keep the first text layers duration in sync with the line, and then the frame the line is fully back up and above the first text layer to make it invisible, you're going to end that text layer in your precomposition and begin your new one.

      Hey, It took me a few minutes and a lot of "apple Z's" to figure out how to make my multiple text lines work. When you create your text layer then ALPHA MAT it to the hidden box, from what I see -and excuse me if this is the long way to fix the problem- you need to duplicate the hidden box and place above the new text layer. In my case I have 4 text boxes that need to be revealed, and I have 4 hidden boxes. Then I just need to animate the White line up and down to reveal the text. From there I precomposed the entire thing. Thank you Caleb.... and for everyone who is having issues with the speed... pause and rewind... I watched the video 6 times, and each time caught something new, and guess what I really know how to do it now. :) Cheers

      sliding text as in just text sliding onto the page with the slight motion blur and all that goodness? you'd just keyframe the text to go from offscreen to onscreen on the position values - enable motion blur and all is good. motion blur should work with text but if not right click the text layer, turn into shape, rinse and repeat. does this help at all? or I could make a tutorial for you if you'd like? whatever works for you dude. :)

    Great video.
    These might be amateur questions but...
    - Could you make a video on how to make Text come out of the straight line in the middle. Ideally text coming from it above and below. Is that possible?
    - How do you ensure that the line you make it straight?
    - Do you know how to save this as my own preset I can use any time and change the text?
    - Is it possible to use this to overlay on a video in premiere pro with it over the video or does this have to be done in after effects?
    (i got everything in your video except the last stage. Did not know what you done after you keyframed the last 2 frames. How you got the movement and changed it to "x" and then make it dissapear)
    thanks!
