  • In the third part of this seemingly never ending saga to repair the heavily neglected Corolla I give the old creature a new coat of paint and do many needed fixes to get it fully functioning

    Feel your pain spending your day off fixing other peoples cars. I just spent 2 sundays and a Tuesday evening fixing a holden commodore Ute that epically failed roadworthy inspection. 3 SRS codes and a ABS code. Plus multiple physical mechanical problems and wiring issues. The vehicle also had a rear lower control arm fitted from a sedan which had an incorrect mounting point for the shock , which destroyed the shock lol. Just one giant clusterfuck of a job. These are the times you dread being a mechanic. Good to see the Corolla coming along nicely in spite of the challenges you’ve faced.

    PD: If you ever get your hands in a Toyota Tercel, please show us. They are robust and fun to drive, as I own a 1996.

    If you replace the compressor, you need to change the evaporator/receiver drier at the same time.

    Jim, Will that center console bolt right into a 1997 Corolla DX? I found a 95 with the console still in it.

    • @jimmyjimjims7483
      @jimmyjimjims7483  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it will, from 93-97 the center consoles are interchangeable with the exception of the Corolla CE models introduced in mid 97, those are stripper versions missing a lot of the features the previous ones had

    I just got a 2002 Corolla for $1000 with 120,000 miles and I did minor things to it and it runs great. I have a question just in general my sister has a 2008 Chevy Tahoe and it’s having battery drain, I think the stereo is badly installed because it doesn’t save the radio stations but on TH-cam I’ve seen that it also could be a bad ground wire. What do you think it could be if you charge the battery in full which takes about 24 hours it will drain in about three weeks.

    • @jimmyjimjims7483
      @jimmyjimjims7483  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      3 weeks is a pretty slow drain, probably just a few volts or less. What I usually do is start off looking around inside for small lights being left on (glovebox, rear cargo door, sun visor lights, etc) those can pull just a volt or 2 and drain a battery dead over time. I also remove those USB chargers people stick in their cigarette outlets because those cause drains too if they short out. Then I perform a parasitic draw test if I don't find anything obvious. Look up here on youtube "The BEST Way TO Perform a Parasitic Draw Test" by the channel HumbleMechanic. You'll need a multimeter for this but you can get one for around $5 at harbor freight just to do basic checks. If you absolutely can't get a multimeter and you have a suspicion its the radio, take the fuse for the radio out (the radio won't work obviously) but if the car stops going dead then you'll know where to look. Keep in mind the modern car battery only lasts 3 or so years so the more it discharges and charges after going dead repeatedly degrades it and it will need to be replaced anyway. I hope you can figure it out cuz those parasitic draws can be tricky

      It's just an iPhone 13 Mini with cinematic mode and stabilization, the editing program I use is Movavi but it uses a crazy amount of CPU so I had to upgrade to a Ryzen 9 6900HX just to get anything to run smoothly

    Do you find most of these vehicles through networking, or car sites? Do you have any advice on not getting fucked over when buying?

    • @jimmyjimjims7483
      @jimmyjimjims7483  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find them on CL, Offer Up, the newspaper, on the sides of peoples houses, at auctions, anywhere I can really. I'm always looking. The trick to not getting fucked over when buying is to know what you're looking at (or if you don't know about cars bring a mechanic) and talk in depth with the person selling it. You can judge a LOT about the car from the owner. Are they dirty, shady, dodging questions, etc. Elderly people are the best to buy from because their generation cared about taking care of things
