@@Blizzard0fOz93Not to be that guy but Odin is in this video and KotR isn’t in this game. The only one I could think of that was missing from this would be moogle, fat chocobo and moomba
I'll never forget the first time I used the magic lamp having no idea what it does and this gotdamn devil vampire appears and commence to demolish my team lol
I remember playing this game and going through hell to get every summon but only using maybe half of them. Their usefulness was for junctioning abilities that broke your stats and gave you the best weapons. Nice in a pinch, but this game was all about physical attacks and the Aura spell.
Bogyman Noobman i dunno. To wait through such a long animation to do damage i could do with a standard attack feels really tedious. Knights of the round had a long ass animation, but the damage was worth it so i did use that one a lot.
Eden is just ridiculous. He puts the enemy in a trippy as balls anti-gravity field, reverses gravity so the enemy is above him, turns the earth into a freaking laser cannon and shoots the enemy through space into another galaxy, which then explodes into a black hole before hilariously dropping the enemy back on the battlefield back on earth and breaking the damage limit! Wow!
Not only that i have though on expanded post game, you know on the Moon its stil many creatures and optional bosses, so you can take Ragnarok and fly to Moon, to prevent another Lunar Cry. :-)
favorite part of the 90s video games were the instruction guides to beat the games. They were so well put together and had great art work inside of them.
I kinda hugged the strategy guide back then, so I always knew which enemies were weak to demi spells. Makes Diablos a heck of a lot more fun to use :D ....so I leveled up Diablos as much as I could and nearly one-hit killed some bosses and a crap ton of monsters. Definitely less disappointing than Cerberus: All that F*er does is cast triple on everyone, as if I don't have a couple extra turns to spare to do that with spells! I really need to play this game again. It's my second-favorite (next to XI,) the first Final Fantasy I ever played through, and it's been years.
Kimmo Laine ffix was my favorite. I really need to go after the super-bosses in both games though. Defeated Ultima weapon in FFVIII, but up against Omega I was like "nope!" and I've never even seen Final Fantasy IX's Superbosses. I'm actually in the middle of collecting retro games, so a newer copy of both games is on my top priority.
My favourite is "King of the Dragon's: BAHAMUT". Flying through the sky among the clouds, takes a look and heck...well you know the rest; in HIM saving your butt. Plus, this compilation can now be redone in the remastered version = looking forward to it! Well done. (8:42- 9:21)
If children nowadays play this game same other rpgs like kindom hearts legend of legaia they will be more thrilled than todays games which heavily relies on graphics instead of gameplay and the story itself
danieljohn2007 i ever thought about that too when i was a kid but i believed they were put to paralysed first when our characters made the green summoning balls.
My boy Diablos! Also a shoutout to Eden. It gets a lot of flak but, come on, it is not easy to launch something into another galaxies' supermassive black hole! That takes time people!
hmm…gilgamesh has 4 attacking type in ff-8(all of them are attacking all enemies),others are Excalipoor(give 1 pt damage ), Excaliber(attack with holy sword), and Masamune(attack with katana)
IMO, there are no good FF games (in the numbered games) past Final Fantasy 10. I didn't care for the summons in any game past then either. These really were a lot more creative.
Yeah, I think they reached the peak of imagination in VII or IIX. Also, I haven't paid much attention to any of the games past IIX, but you can see here they are already starting to abandon the classic mythological archetypes for strange "science fantasy" creations like Eden. I still have never heard a coherent exposition on what that thing is.
Alan Falleur BTW, it's VIII, not IIX, for 8 in Roman numerals :) In regards to Eden, it's meant to be a Garden from the time when Ultimecia comes from and they're battling against her, thus why it's the only GF to be able to break the damage limit. That's why it's Drawable from Tiamat in the Sorceress' Castle... because of Time Compression. (The only reason they gave you the chance to Draw it from Ultima Weapon is because it's an optional boss). On a side note, given the design, I'd say it was constructed by Esthar. Just as Balamb and Galbadia had one, so the continent of Esthar would most likely have one to help them battle the sorceress.
BYERE I stand corrected on the Roman numeral syntax, but I'm not prepared to accept that exposition on Eden as coherent. I mean no insult, but this is what I was taking about when I said "strange science fantasy creations." Besides Gene Wolfe's books and the Vampire Hunter D franchise, I'm very uncomfortable with science fantasy, but that's my own limitation.
Alan Falleur That's fair enough, everyone has their own way of thinking :) Personally, that's the only explanation of Eden I can think of, or know of, that makes any sort of sense to me.
I never played this game before, but, Diablos was one of the coolest effects I've seen. Doomtrain's concept was just plain hilarious. I thought FF7's Bahamat was better than FF8's though.
I forgot how many crazy as fuck summons there were in FF8. :0 Definitely the most in one FF. Would be surprised if it had one of the most infinitive summons.
I last played FF8 back in 2001, playing it again on Steam now. I forgot that Eden could do over 9999 damage, but I do remember that Quistis' final limit break did likewise. Shockwave Pulser IIRC... did something like 13400.
I had the hardest time getting Doomtrain because you had to get 6 Malboro tentacles. I could never kill those goddamn Malboros because they would inflict a plethora of status ailments on your party. I didn't have any sort of guides to help me back in the day because I didn't have internet yet. I can't remember exactly my strategy I used in the end I believe it was quickly using a Hero on Quistis and maybe using Squall's limit break or something? It took me ages to accomplish but getting every summon was always a huge goal of mine in FF7, FF8 and FF10 (I never played 9)
Sound Effects and Music of FF VIII were so ahead of everything back then, yet people forget how important they are to the powerful vibes of this game. Also, yes, Diablos is awesome but no love for Bahamut (which is FUCKING AWESOME)? I'm disappointed.
I wouldn't call this high quality because half of the sound effects are missing =/ but hey, that's what happens when the PC version fucks up the sounds and music
Jus image if the GF summons where Yu-Gi-OH monster blue eyes white dragon, red eyes blk dragon, Dark magician, dark magician of Chaos, Obelisk the tormentor, Slifer the sky dragon, winged dragon of Ra jus to name a few

Whoever designed these summon animations is a genius - they're the best in the series. DOINK!
+optiorespb leviathan was amazing! although eden was being a little fuckin extra >_>
that's how creepy tonberry is XD
Abdullah Ali and don't forget bahamut. he's the most famous summon in final fantasy history
Bogyman Noobman him and Alexander
Bogyman Noobman
lol true even when i was little and havent played final fantasy at all at that time I knew him already from my uncle
The TRUE thing Eden is good for is giving you lots of time for Selphie's Slot Limit Break and getting "The End." Works like a charm.
I love how crunchy the sound efects are, it adds so much.
Diablos summoning animation will always amaze me.
Oh gawd yes... He's been my favourite summon ever since I first got this game
Now that i see it again.. for some unknown Reasons it reminded me of Evangelion.

diablo summoning always be my favorite :)
+ezekial mckenzie yea mine too such raw power !!!
yeah and that gravity effect badass *_*
everything about it is badass the sphere he comes from the darkness dripping the pull effect when he throws it the impact the idea its ALL brilliant !
aka TEH DEVIL
Diablo is great, but Bahamut is the greatest summon. FF8 Bahamut is my favorite of all.
I remember playing this game and going through hell to get every summon but only using maybe half of them. Their usefulness was for junctioning abilities that broke your stats and gave you the best weapons. Nice in a pinch, but this game was all about physical attacks and the Aura spell.
I wouldn't say that. GF's would be useful as extra health too if you needed since it used the GF's health instead of yours.
this was BACK 1999!!! IT CAN STILL IN BE PAR WITH TODAYS MODERN GAMES!!!!
All the GFs with the boss theme in background : exactly what i was looking for, thx a lot !!
summons is what makes final fantasy games fun to play. at least it's my opinion
unskippable 30+ second long cutscenes are not fun to play because youre not playing at all
you get to participate though in FF8 atleast because the more you spam square the stronger it gets
Bogyman Noobman i dunno. To wait through such a long animation to do damage i could do with a standard attack feels really tedious. Knights of the round had a long ass animation, but the damage was worth it so i did use that one a lot.

i am sad with FFXV though. Bahamut is no longer the "Help get me out of most dire situations!" he can only be summoned once
Certainly there's nothing better than to summon an OP God-like (or actual gid in some cases) being to make an attack on your behalf. :)
Bahamut is still the most badass summon for me in this game, the way he made his entrance. It never fails to give me chills
Wow!
Alexander definitely feels like a homage to Diamond Weapon as his attack is completely changed from the lasers in 7.
I hope they bring back some idea for future fantasies to use summons like this game that give character stats increases and abilities.
If I had it my way, I would have expanded the Seed missions in Disc 1. I've always felt that they could have done so much more to it.
+jetlagsyndrome that is why they invented fanfiction. (hands paper and pencil) start writing.
