Due to this years lockdown situation I decided to start keep fit. So I started with speedwalking then jogging. Last month I decided to start running for a 5k. I completed my first 5k in 27 mins and last week ran 24 min 45 secs. Today is my 55th birthday!!!! Cannot believe what I have achieved when I never even considered running before. Just goes to prove what can be done when you want to. Great video Flora.
Really enjoyed your video, I'm training to undertake my first ultra later this year and these types of videos are imbuing me with enthusiasm! Have to point out the irony at 16:24.......... it seems the gentleman you passed concurred with your statement!
really enjoyed watching this! I am so impressed - 50km over that kind of terrain is pretty amazing. You're making me consider running another marathon haha.
I got a little teary-eyed when you crossed the finish line! Congratulations Flora!! Prior to COVID lockdown, I was training for a 10k race, but when it hit here I became very depressed and stopped running. I'm finally feeling better after months of being sedentary and I'm starting to run again. I feel like I'm starting from scratch, but your vlogs (especially your race-day ones, thank you for the time and effort you put into making them!) are very inspirational to me. I hope to get into distance running and trail running someday. You've really sparked my curiosity!
This is a really lovely message, thank you so much. I too was welling up randomly after crossing the finish line, but i get more teary watching others finish than myself! So sorry to hear you were struggling through lockdown, I really hope the running helps cheer you up ❤ i know it does for me. I hope to continue to do plenty more videos, especially race day ones 🤗
Congratulations, you did so well! 🎉👍🏻🥰 Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience, I'm pretty much a newbie runner and an ultra junkie terrified of racing, this actually got me excited 😄
Great video Flora. Will be looking at this event for one of my first ultras next year. Peak District isn’t too far from my home and it looks amazing. Got a few of your videos to catch up on now I’ve subscribed! 👍
Thank you for the video it was very enjoyable and amazing scenery. Appreciating that not during Covid however hopefully when things change and when (if) you chose your next ultra you should look up Ultra Trail Australia and Tarawera in NZ. I've done both in the last 2 years (1 a year) and I'm just starting to train for Tarawera again....they are awesome! Again, great video and congratulations!!
dear Flora, thank you for the awesome video! you rock! i've just started running because of the lockdown in my country while only individual sports activity was allowed. i'd hated running all my life but i thought - hey, trail running seems kinda fun, let's give it a try. so i did and i'm starting to love it more and more, and videos like yours are a great motivation! thank you again! i also love Great Britain and traveling through it is one of my long living dreams, thus I'm considering to sign for some race in Wales next year to combine the pleasant and ... the pleasant :) i just need to run more and to watch other people running on youtube less, so don't upload too much, please :)
Well done on your first. The trick now is to not get addicted to going longer....... too late? hehehe Love your enthusiasm even in the later stages of the race. That's what will get you through when the weather turns bad and you're all alone, and your blisters hurt, and..... One small trick I've learned after blackening and loosing toenails - a week before the race trim them right back and file them right down so they can't catch on your socks, and make sure there are no seams pressing down on them. For a 10k or a half marathon it won't matter too much, but over the longer distances small things like that really make a big difference. And I'm so envious that you can eat a load right after the race. I can't eat much for at least a day afterwards, so I'm left to cope with living on beer for a day or so ;-) Looking forward to the next one :-)
Thank you so much! My nails were super short but are permanently bruised from the hills in dorset, and have been for about a year (since Yorkshire three peaks this time last year!). Thus far none have fallen off though, so I'm clinging onto hope they'll recover 🙈
Absolutely amazing Flora, well done! Happy to help send you in the right direction by the way, I thought I'd better stand at that turn since so many people seemed to be missing it! You were my inspiration to start trail running during lockdown so hopefully I'll be doing an event like this myself soon 😊
Ahhhh you were so helpful, thanks so much! Really appreciate it ❤❤❤ And YES you should totally sign up, the event was so much fun - sorry I was in a bit of a rush when I saw you 😂
@@FloraBeverley haha no worries, you were in the middle of a race! Hope you've recovered ok from the weekend, black toes sounds pretty grim 😂 glad you had fun though!
Having followed your videos for a while, I found this one to help me face my first 50 km this weekend. A colleague of mine had to pull out three weeks ago, and I volunteered to take his transfer, literally 18 days before Ultra X Wales 50 km. I'm obviously a bit mad, my longest run this year to that point was one 10 km. I have done two 28 km runs in the last two weeks, the longest I have run for 42 years, I'm 61. I think this will be a massive mental challenge, but this video has calmed my nerves (a little). Thank you
Re. Black toe issue - Can definitely recommend Altra trail shoes to help with that - so comfy and have a wider/bigger toe box. Well done for completing it 👍 Looks like an incredible event!
wow love this vid and your experiences during, congratulations! I cant wait to run my second ultra next year, just binging on all your vids. Had similar experiences and thoughts to you on my Ultra in April 🥰
Hi Flora Was really interesting to watch your run (and so scenic) and so nice to watch how some one else approaches there Ultra and in what part of the country.... ps I used Huel after my run but drank 500 ml of water and x3 SIS gels 75mg caffeine low (energy fuel).... I ran my first 50K on my 50th Birthday (50/50) this year during Lockdown (and ran no further than 3 miles from my house) was 5 laps of the town... lots of elevation...honest Oh I ran each lap progressively (its on Strava) lol 04:47:04 ran another Ultra again two weeks ago with a better time ha ha.... and less fuel again...
Great video! I really enjoyed it. Regarding the spontaneous bruising: Do go get it checked. You might have low levels of trombocytes which couldn’t be a problem if the levels get too low. (I had that myself some years ago.) Take care and keep on the ultras! /Mats
Congratulations!! I'm amazed you were able to film as much as you did, I appreciate the effort and energy that must have taken! What a gorgeous place to torture yourself! My first 50k is in 6 weeks. Luckily it's relatively flat, because I'll only have been running 6 months since taking 5 months off over the winter. Watching you push through the doubts and niggles will motivate me. I hope you do another!! Was there anything you wish you'd done differently with food, gear, strategy?
This is such a wonderful comment, thank you! Although filming is strangely tiring (the only part of my body that still hurts is my right shoulder from lifting the camera!) it serves to distract me from the run, provide some entertainment and also I love looking back at old footage when I want to relive the experience. So the pleasure is all mine! :) I'm sure you'll ace your race. I will absolutely be doing another! I'm really happy with my strategy actually. I think I could have started without trackies, but I am very glad I didn't get cold, so maybe it was worth it. ;) Huge good luck with yours!! Vlog with ultra tips coming out next week xx
Such an amazing achievement well done!! I was at Kinder Scout in the peaks on Saturday and was looking out for everyone :D Loved the longer vlog too it was great to watch the whole experience!

This vlog is brilliant! I just did my first ever running event this weekend and it was an 54km ultra in the Peak District (maverick x series). It was beautiful. Only had 3 weeks to prepare as I wanted to see if I could do it with very little preparation and not a lot of running experience. It is amazing what you learn about yourself if can push through and carry on going. Thanks so much for this video!!
Hey Flora, wow what an amazing race and achievement. I can see why you loved it so much! It’s so annoying that people could do that with the flags, especially with the staggered start. Can’t wait to hear about and see what’s next!
Congrats 👏 I did my first 50K Ultra last february. It was great and the only downfall was my feet blisters because running the whole run on tarmac Road. But I'm still manage to finish within cut off time (12hrs). Looking for next 70K ultra in Apr 2021. #staysafe #stayhealthy
Preparing for my first ultra, loved the video! What I don’t understand though, why do people take the flags? I have never experienced this (knock on wood).
Ah exciting, good luck! Aha honestly I dont know. Sometimes its disgruntled farmers or locals, sometimes people walking who want a memento, sometimes little kids just playing around. Always very annoying!
Flora... a year later but do you still rate the Montrails By Columbia..... they look great but is there much space in the toe box? and how soft are they - sorry for all the questions !! ☺️

Flora Beverley I’m doing a charity fundraising run thing at the moment and its probably the most I’ve ever run in a month so hopefully I’m on the way to being able to do a lot more!🏃🏼♀️
On the couple of occasions ive had to camp prior to a race ive just slept in the car. Might be worth doing that next time, saves messing about endlessly erecting a tent
Great run Flora! Mind over matter during those tough times hey?! You listen to music during the race? Any plans for another race? Enjoy your recovery time xx
Thanks! No official plans but will definitely do another! I did listen to music for about an hour total, not much! Chatting more about it in Tuesday's vlog 😊
Congrats on this amazing run - really making me want to go for a hike in the peaks now!! Random question but do you find more strain on your IT band on trail runs? Tried a route with rougher terrain (usually just run on roads/park paths) and it's completely flared up... Not sure if I should try it again and see if it gets easier or stick to roads hahah
Thank you!! No trails are soooooo much better for my ITB than road it. I start to feel it around 8k on road, but more like 20k on trails. But i guess it depends the cause for you as its might be different and more exacerbated by trails. So annoying though! Lots of physio for you 🙈
I am doing a 50k exactly 2 hours from watching this video... signed up for the race 2 days ago, totally unprepared, untrained, and partially injured. I got a lot of guts. Will I finish? 🙀
Congratulations Flora! Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to do the 50km?(I'm fully aware your goal was to complete it) I'm just wondering how long 50km of running would take :) Lots of love from Portugal!
hi !!! long time runner and personal trainer here. SHOESSSSS. you seriously should consider getting your gait checked and getting shoes that give you the support you need. also, if you typically run on roads, try trails! they're usually softer. and last thing, do some research on proper running form and play with your stride a little, the cause could be heel striking or pronation. good luck!
hey @@annahernandez9683 ! thanks so so much for your reply! really appreciate it! did my first 5k (i know, sounds so pathetic against floras 50KM!!!) on tuesday...i want to run but am scared about shin splints as I get these already sometimes from walking (i walk lots!) so thanks for the info!!
Hey! A) 5km is never pathetic! Awesome that you're getting out 👏🏼 B) trails are way softer on the legs C) I have a blog post on this! foodfitnessflora.blog/2020/05/04/shin-splints-what-are-they/
Missed that. Fast pace, I am doing the Ben Nevis in one weeks time, my only objective is to finish within the twelve hour cut off….and maybe to be able to walk the next day!

Thank you!! Haha I wolfed down half and my dad ate the other half 😂 but I had 2 full curries an hour later so all good! 🤗🤗🤗
Congratulations again! I was so looking forward to watching you run this haha, such an inspiration
Thanks so much! Hope you enjoyed 🤗
You are so impressive! I hope I am able to do something like this eventually!🏃🏼♀️
Thank you! I truly think most people could do something like this without too much trouble! 🤗
Flora Beverley I’m doing a charity fundraising run thing at the moment and its probably the most I’ve ever run in a month so hopefully I’m on the way to being able to do a lot more!🏃🏼♀️
Ultimate running inspo!! You smashed it 🤩
Thank youuuu ❤
This is amazing, congratulations! You make it look so easy 😅
Haha thanks so much! xx
Well done! I just completed my first 60km ultra last weekend :)
Amazing congratulations! 👏🏼
Amazing Flora,really pleased for you🏃🏽♀️
Thank you!!
Amazing!!! I want to try one one day but I’m so scared 😱
What watch do you use?
Love all your videos! Motivated me
Thanks! I use the magic honorwatch 2 :)
This track looks stunning! Well done on completing it
Just noticed your map, have you travelled all of USA?
It was gorgeous! And it's not mine haha, I'm just staying here while we sort out our long term living situation 🙈
On the couple of occasions ive had to camp prior to a race ive just slept in the car. Might be worth doing that next time, saves messing about endlessly erecting a tent
Your so inspirational 🏃♀️✨
❤❤❤
Well done Flora 🥳 I enjoyed watching that 🤩
Thank you!!
Hello! Thank you for your videos. You´re such an inspiration for me. Thanks for that. Take care.
Amazing effort💪 well done, pleased for you👍
Thank you!
"Only" a half marathon to go 😂 Way to go! It looks beautiful. Are there toilets at the checkpoints??
I know, i felt mad even saying it 😂 no there arent, it's all about the wild wee (and take loo paper in your bag for emergencies!)
beautiful trail !
U smashed it! Loved watching you do this
Thank you!! ❤❤❤
beautiful video :)
what is it with people taking the flags though ??
Not sure! Either souvenirs or people getting annoyed it's on their land maybe?
Congratulations, what a achievement!
congrats flora. you are amazing 👏👏👏🧡🧡🧡💗
How was your race? Hope you had a great time!
@@FloraBeverley 6 hours 59 minutes 41 seconds ... Got DOMS after waking up. whew
@@kl8922 huge congrats!! And yes me too 😅
@@FloraBeverley I simply signed up for this as a "training" run. The 100 miler next month is still live. 😬
Nice video...really enjoyed it.
Congratulations Flora! Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to do the 50km?(I'm fully aware your goal was to complete it) I'm just wondering how long 50km of running would take :) Lots of love from Portugal!
This was just under 6h50 but really it depends on the hills! So hard to estimate (that's why I love trail running, times dont matter! 🤗)
Would you not do heel on a hill in chorley in greater Manchester ( 5 marthion in five days ) it in 8 weeks it amazing x
Yikes that sounds mad! Not sure I'm quite ready for that yet 😅
@@FloraBeverley if I can do it you definitely can do it x
Great vlog :) how long did u take off before running again and what distance? X
I ran Tuesday and Thursday this week but only 4k and 6k and very slowly! 😊
That’s incredible! How did you manage to get going for so long on your own? Ive done 50k but with someone, never thought I could do it on my own
Well I did chat with people on the way around! :) and my dad was supporting there too x
Amazing Flora👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻ciao from Milano Italy 👋🏻👋🏻
Really well done !!! 😎👍
How can you avoid shin splints !
hi !!! long time runner and personal trainer here. SHOESSSSS. you seriously should consider getting your gait checked and getting shoes that give you the support you need. also, if you typically run on roads, try trails! they're usually softer. and last thing, do some research on proper running form and play with your stride a little, the cause could be heel striking or pronation. good luck!
hey @@annahernandez9683 ! thanks so so much for your reply! really appreciate it! did my first 5k (i know, sounds so pathetic against floras 50KM!!!) on tuesday...i want to run but am scared about shin splints as I get these already sometimes from walking (i walk lots!) so thanks for the info!!
Hey! A) 5km is never pathetic! Awesome that you're getting out 👏🏼
B) trails are way softer on the legs
C) I have a blog post on this! foodfitnessflora.blog/2020/05/04/shin-splints-what-are-they/
Strong performance impressive
that's so impressing :)
Why do people steal the marker flags?!
So what was your time…or did I miss that.
I think I say it towards the end. 6h04 or so
Missed that. Fast pace, I am doing the Ben Nevis in one weeks time, my only objective is to finish within the twelve hour cut off….and maybe to be able to walk the next day!
@@markthomasson5077 enjoy! You might surprise yourself 😊
Did you really love EVERY second?? I know I always say that but the tough bits are not really that much fun at the time, you just forget about them afterwards, and yet we always go back for more 😏
No genuinely, I loved every second. I was amazed how much I loved it. This was not hyperbole!
SO CUTE
