Hey Audrey- I loved your video. I too had a rough time my first year at Kenyon, through no fault of Kenyon or anyone else. Nobody in high school can truly warn you about how difficult it can be. I remember looking around and wondering why no one else in the entire town of Gambier was having a hard time. Truth is, they all were. There was a time freshman year when I thought, "ok, only three more years left. I can do this. I can make it through." But then, fast forward a few semesters later, and I would have killed to spend a few more weeks on The Hill. You'll soon find your sense of belonging, and it will feel so welcoming. Your video brought be right back to some wonderful memories- thank you for that. Good luck with the rest of your semester!
Hi Audrey, thank you so much for sharing your video. My son who is currently a freshman at Kenyon (also from New York City) also had a difficult time adjusting to college. He is getting better now, but the first/fall semester was very tough on him. He also had a really bad case of post Disney World depression when he visited Mickey Mouse during the October break.
When I attended Kenyon (1967-1971), the College was nearly broke and the Slater IRA food inedible. Entertainment was crossing the railroad trestle over the Kokosing River when a freight was due! I won a Woodrow Wilson fellowship as a senior and competed my Ph.d in English at Brown University. I retired in 2015 as Edward Little Professor of English emeritus and went on to teach at Bowdoin College. Published poetry in "The Kenyon review," etc., etc. Colleges have become youth resorts now -- gourmet food, psychiatric services, post-graduate job placement, and so on. So different from the austerity I remember. Say "hello" to Perry Lentz for me. He might remember me . . .
hi, thank u for making this video. i’m an incoming freshman at kenyon and i see a lot of similarities between us! i am so… so scared to start college, but it’s nice to see that i’m not at all alone in my experience. i will probably (definitely) also cry many many times my first few days there 😍😍 anyways. more importantly, was that boba place in ur hometown or near gambier??? i have to know for sanity reasons (i am an addict) thank u LOL!!
Hii !! I assume you’re here now, as a freshman!! If you don’t already know, the village market sells boba on Mondays! It’s not the best, but it’s good since the closest boba place is in Columbus 1 hour away by car :’) hope you are doing okay and liking Kenyon so far!!
I currently live in Norton Hall, and I really love it. It is all female-identifying and arguably the cleanest first-year dorm. The rooms are also relatively large. Out of the 4 first-year-only dorms, I recommend Norton and Lewis. They are identical in architecture, but Lewis is mixed gender. :)
Hi! I am a prospective student looking to come to Kenyon next fall. How did you score a single bedroom? I would ideally like to have a single, but they are in low quantity.
hi! I got a single purely based on luck. I put single as my first preference and put Norton Hall as my first choice for dorm, and I got both of those. I would say it was all luck because I didn’t do anything else
