I loved this video. Filofax actually started making A5 folio covers in their classic saffiano leather and I wish they’d pay attention to TH-cam and the trend of de-ringed Maldens that has been going around for a while; that’s an awesome market
No kidding. Many businesses have caught on so hopefully they will too. 🤞
They had a Flex range before, which is an amazing ‘insert’ system without the elastics. If only they had made a personal / personal wide. But no. They had A5, and an unusual pocket size. And then the range discontinued.

I would've purchased a used one but that's just me.
I have an idea for covering the holes on the inside of the cover. You could take a rectangle of flat suede, leather or fabric covered cardstock and tuck it into the left and right side of the cover behind your book.
I know I'm two years late, but this is genius.
I've de-ringed 4 personal Malden's and 1 pocket. I absolutely LOVE them ringless. My pocket is stringed as a TN and is my EDC. The personals are for my B6 and B6 Slim notebooks with only an elastic in the previous ring holes to hold charms. The Malden is perfect for the B6 sizes. It's easier with a drill :-) Tuck the cut part back under the stitching and use clear drying Elmers school glue (the purple one that dries clear). Add some to the stitching on both sides to keep it from raveling. The glue dries unnoticeable.

You could cut a little sliver off the bottom and top of just the back of the stalogy and then it’ll fit.

A common method is to drill out the rivets...
...and then you can remove the rings without cutting the leather!

My heart was beating faster watching you remove the ring mechanism. 🤣 Don't think I'd be brave enough to do this to a brand new Malden. In the end it's perfect for the B6 notebook. ♥️
I bought my Malden from Amazon about 2-3 weeks ago! And just 2 days ago I took the rings out of it!!! Loved this video so much! Loving my B6 stalogy in it too!! The Malden leather is just amazing! Xo

It might not work this way - but I think you could stick your dot grid notebook in the right-hand side of the cover upside down and still be able to use the band around the pages. As far as I can tell (unless the pages are numbered), dot grid looks the same either way. Also, if you don't like the holes the rings left, a simple brad will cover them and it's a very finished look! Cool video!
Great idea! I’ll have to look into the brads. Thank you! And yes you can definitely do that with the notebook however there is a button the elastic and it may indent your paper.

I got a black Heritage for an address book. Love it. What i didn't expect is that the same in brown feels much, much nicer. I've handled a couplle in each colour, and the brown ones feel nicer and look at least as good in person.

Do you know that you could use those rings also? You could screw them on a plastic board and put them back into the Malden!

If I ever did this, which is unlikely, I'd have to cut the elastic band off the notebook to make it fit better. Won't the decorative thingy dent the leather? I don't like elastic band closures anyway as they go slack eventually.

yeah no kidding...I wasn't expecting all that I've received; not just the bad, but also the good. I feel like its 50/50.
i kinda cringed at the fact that you had to deconstruct a newly-bought filofax, but nevertheless, it gave me an idea on how to recycle all my unused organisers. so i guess, thanks for the idea, in a way.
Just had to take an extra beta blocker, had to save for ages for my purple malden, but you brave, explorer notebook lady have nailed a fab folio, my hat off to you this is mazin thankyou for the rollercoaster ride. Best wishes i am now envious😊

Just done the same with mine, have two others Im keeping ringed. Everyone has a right to do what they want with their property, don’t think it’s fair to suggest she has done something wrong. I specifically wanted a Malden cover for my B6 Stalogy, and Im thrilled at how it looks all set up. It goes everywhere with me. A lot of people have done the same thing. Each to their own.

I love this!❤️ I have always loved Molden but I don't like the rings! Now it is officially on my wish list! What happened eventually with the stalogy notebook? Does it fit in the pocket? I have seen on Instagram that it does but I saw some struggle in your video, is it because your Molden is brand-new and it is still stiff? Enjoy your new cover!
Efthy Gat I feel the same way. Yes I realized I forgot to elaborate on the b6. It’s definitely a struggle. My Stalogy does go in without having to slice down the cover, but so think it’s because my other notebook (in the video) stretched the leather out to allow for some give. Hope this helps.

I can't do it, so I just brought bespoke leather covers but hey do what works for you and makes you happy. I am sure you worked hard to pay for it, enjoy as you wish 😉
I love the Malden. I de-ringed my pocket Malden some time ago and I plan to buy a B6 Stalogy and have it cut dow specifically for the size of the back pocket or cut down my B6 Slim Nanami cafe. Not sure yet. It needs to be about 1/4” shorter than a regular A6 size for it to slide in. I noticed the same thing happened with the B6 size. I can’t remember who, but they purchased rings and turned the Malden back to a ring planner. Have fun with it! Thanks for sharing! ✨❤️✨ Joy2plan

OMGosh, I just got that Tekekor B6 notebook a week ago! It is small for a true B6, but I really like the quality of the cover, the strap, and the tomoe river paper inside.

Excellent! Now you have my wheels turning. The only thing is, the holes in the middle will bother me. I have done this to faux leather covers, and I cover the ring holes with washi tape. This isn't the best answer though because it still looks off to me, and it doesn't stick that well. I am curious if you have covered the ring holes, with what, and how it is holding up. Thank you!
Hello Angie. Yes I can see how the holes would be bothersome. I did get a suggestion to add eyelets or rivets if I wanted. I am sure I can even string it up to make a travelers notebook, but I like the way it is now.

I want to buy a filofax to help me be organised with a few things. Doing research and came across this. I am not sure what I am watching. I am now wondering are the inside of filofax no good?
I would use the used Malden with gaping rings for that. I might do that too on my channel.

I can’t watch you anymore lol I’ve been pricing Filofax covers for 2 days now. But what saves me is I’m in an A6 stalogy. I’ve watched every video I think on taking the rings out. Lol. And there you are taking the rings out of a Malden. Lol.

Your brown is called Ochre for those interested in purchasing. I have a Personal Malden in Fuschia, complete with all inserts and packaging, that I literally carried for 3 weeks last September (2018) that I would be willing to sell. I also have a new Pocket Malden with 2019 that was never used! Willing to sell both. Caring Harling also deringed her Malden.
