This is the best review on planners around. Another planner that has large rings is the Kikki K. The run around $80 more or less. And they have cute planners that caters a lot to students. As for me, I’m a Filo girl and my favorite is the Finsbury because I like structured planners. I do love my pocket Malden, and have personal and a5 as well. But the Finsbury is my favorite. I think that Filofax is a great value for less money compared to the other planners. If I could spend more money I would get a VDS, but right now is out of my budget. Like I said, awesome review.

Not something that I usually watch but I've currently been "given" a promotion that requires me to learn a new skill set. I was raised Catholic and so I believe this has instilled in me a sense that ritual and the proper accoutrement give weight to the bearer. Thus, "Dress for the job you want...". Not only will nice things last if well cared for they will also send a strong message to those around you that you can be trusted to take on the little details as well as the big things required of you. And then again, your inner child should be rewarded, with some adult temperance. Where am I going with this? I like the smell of leather. It gives me a grounding and a sense of antiquity... permanence! When I walk into a meeting with a touchstone such as a nice day planner or my Dad's watch I know I'm not the only one who has "Been there" and it gives me the confidence that I have earned my seat at the table.
I wish I had seen this video two years ago! I bought my first Malden and the leather is exquisite! The 23 mm rings were too small for the sections and content I wanted to carry. I left rings, went to TN, then Stalogy. Now I have two Gillios with 30 mm Krause rings and one Gillio with 25mm rings. I love the pocket design inside and of course that fabulous pocket across the back cover. Thanks for the fabulous review!

Great video and what a good job describing and showing the details of each planner. I have that same gold Gillio and the same Malden. They are the only two ring binders I have left. Parted with the others because I felt my Gillio and ochre Malden gave me planner peace. I would love to get a Vanderspek and I’m leaning towards just picking up a Touch Me because I don’t need fancy custom. PS. This was your first video I watched and I subscribed to your channel😊

Just buy them both, for science haha! I truly love Gillio’s product and I think it’s the best made, most beautiful planner on the market. However, I have also had my Malden for years now and have had no complaints about it whatsoever. It’s a classic planner that never goes out of style!

I am shopping for a leather A5 binder and debating over the FoxyFix Sugar 35mm rings (cute colors, but not enough pockets), Franklin 1.25" rings (limited color selection, but offer large rings), Cocoa Paper 30mm rings (haven't seen a lot of reviews) and the Cloth&Paper Co. 1" rings (love the nude but rings are too small)

It is a Medium (Personal Size) Compagna in the color Gold. This was a pre-loved planner, so it had a beautiful patina and the leather had darkened quite a bit. I would say their Rust color is similar and equally as gorgeous! Thank you so much for watching!
I started in a half paper size three ring binder to figure out my pages. I’m ready to move to a “nice” cover. But I want larger than the 1 inch rings. Suggestions?
I believe Van der Spek A5 Touch Me covers have 35mm rings, which are about 1.4" wide. 30mm rings are about 1.2" and Gillio uses 30mm rings in their A5 covers. I hope that helps!

I have gotten most of my FoxyFix through buy/sell/trade groups on Facebook because I can get them shipped much quicker. Because every FoxyFix piece is custom made to your specifications it can take a month or longer to receive them. Have been struggling to choose between Gillio and Van Der Spek - Your comparison is very helpful! I have one question, though: what is the color of the used Gillio you bought? The aged leather looks like Rust, which is the one I'm considering to buy, but since it has darkened I wonder whether it is Gold, Yellow, or Orange?
That Gillio was a very well-loved gold compagna. It totally looked rust to me too! I double checked the box and it is actually gold. I just purchased a brand new gold compagna and it it much lighter but it will eventually patina to a dark color like the one in my video. If you check out my Instagram @ruby_doobies you can see the color comparison I posted there of a new gold versus a gold that’s a couple years old :) I do LOVE the rust color and I am considering picking one up in the future!
This is a great video! I really needed this. Have just started with rings and ordered a Malden after going back and forth between Malden and VDS Touch Me for a few days. I probably have seen all the unboxings and set ups for both brands (personal size) haha. After ordering my Malden, now I am thinking whether to get a VDS or a Gilio, of course the Gillio will completely break my bank. What do you think?
Ahhhh, such a tough decision! I would definitely check out the Facebook Marketplaces I linked in the description box because there are always Gillios for sale. The Van der Speks don't come up for sale nearly as often though. The layout of both planners is nearly identical so I think you have to decide how much the leather texture is a factor for you. If it's not as important, go with the Van der Spek (brand new it's still half the cost of a Gillio). If you know you're going to be in this size planner for a long time and you really want some luxurious leather I'd go with a Gillio or get a custom Van der Spek made. I hope that helps!
Do some research. Try an inexpensive Chinese one first that can be had for a few dollars to figure out ring size and paper size. Later you can keep your spare supplies in it. When you figure out what size A6, A 5 etc. and what ring size 20mm and 25mm, etc. Invest in one good quality leather planner that will last. Keep the money you save for old age or give to the poor for food. It is a shame to buy a half dozen expensive planners. Can you imagine owning a half dozen filofax etc. when some people need food or medical care.

Hi Connie! This Foxy Fix is the regular personal size. It looks much wider because it has 30mm rings so the leather must be cut wider to cover the inserts sticking out further. The rings inside are Krause rings so you could swap them out for 25mm and maybe use it for personal wide inserts!
Hi Beth! That Gillio is in the color gold. It was one of their older gold leathers so it was quite a deep color with a lovely patina. I have a brand new gold that is much lighter but hasn't had nearly as much handling. I think that's one of the coolest features of Gillio leather, how they change over time with use and handling. Jessica Torina I too have an older Gillio personal in gold. Mine is either 5-6 years old and the darker color is so gorgeous and the patina is awesome. Mine still has that lovely leather smell and is super soft..just can’t say enough good things about this planner!

I agree! The colors are very bright and they have some really cool fabric options like the hologram and the rose pattern but I just can't get over how cheap they feel.
