How I De-Ringed My Filofax Malden

  • I’m sure you all have seen all the amazing de-ringed Filofax Maldens being shared on IG and YT. One of my favorite TH-camrs is Daksina - her Stalogy is what dreams are made of. She manages to have a functional planner that’s fun and decked out. I’m in awe of her puffy Stalogy and her style and I love watching her videos and seeing her IG posts. I love them so much I couldn’t stop thinking about getting my own Malden.
    After watching the BST on Facebook I finally found a used one for a very good price and after some time I got up the nerve to de-ring it. I videoed the process and wanted to share it with you. I tried a few bit sizes before finding that the 3/16 was perfect for de-ringing and my Olfa cutter made removing the metal plate and pen loop a breeze.
    This is a link to my Olfa Utility knife but they do have other versions as well but I love how this one feels in my hand - lots of control and balance. olfa.com/profe...

    I struggled to de-ring some binders a while ago, as I wanted to keep the ring mechanisms for other projects. Epic fail on one. Loved the idea of using a drill. I also like your idea of cutting and regluing the leather rather than unpick the stitching. Thanks to your video, I will now attempt to finish the other binders. Thank You

    Thank you for this excellent tutorial! With your help here I deringed two Personal Maldens in less than ten minutes. It would have been even less time, but the plate in the Ochre (the older of the two) put up a fight against being removed.

    I would appreciate it if you would provide details about the cutters you use in this video i'm interested in buying it but i could not find any videos that could provide information on some of the things i wanted to know about it.
    I want to know if the blade wobbles during use, is there any locking mechanism that keeps the blade in position while in use and how to replace the blade.
    I would be better if you could make a video about it but a short explanation is enough for me.
    I don't use english in my daily life so i hope my english is good enough for you to understand.

      So I do have the Olfa cutter listed in the description box but they do change up products overtime so the exact one may not be available. But I’ll try to find a comparable one that’s offered currently for you. It is awesome. It has great control, clean slicing, it locks in place and has a strong sturdy blade. Olfa products are awesome and this one is a favorite in my toolbox.

    • @JustScribble
      @JustScribble  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Malden is personal size. Personal size ring inserts are smaller than B6 notebooks (closer to 3.75x7) but when you de-ring it holds a B6 size notebook perfectly!

    • @JustScribble
      @JustScribble  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its the personal size Malden. The original is a little slimmer so I'm not sure how it would fit as I don't have one yet to try. But plan to get one soon to de-ring. The domino is a little too slim.

    omg just cut the stitching where you want to take the metal part out, instead of cutting the leather. why cut leather honestly. you can always redo the stitching and you can also apply a new all around border or have someone doing it for you (a good place is where they repair men shoes, they do that sort of leather work).

    • @JustScribble
      @JustScribble  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching and for your feedback. Yes I could have unstitched and restitched it. But that’s a lot more time and effort and a small slit under the folded edge and leather glue works great - it’s fast, easy and you can’t tell which part was cut now that I’ve repaired it. If this was a $300, full grain leather cover I would have taken much more care in the process and taken the time to unstitch and restitch it but for a top grain, $60 cover this worked perfectly.
