    Hi Nathan,
I'm travelling thru the Trans-Siberian railroad right now and have been eating out of a Menu 6 that I picked up in Vladivostok for the "fell off the truck" price of 350 rubles (less than 6 dollars).
Curiously the mains are the same while the vegetable and the fat dishes are slightly different.
I just wanted to report that the beef with beans dish was one of the most delicious meals I've had out of a tin. The meatballs were a bit more mediocre, but I had warmed that up to go with some Uzbek pilaf I had ordered at a roadside cafe near Lake Baikal and it did the job of side dish nicely.
    Thanks!
    Tian

That large "extinguished" beef piece you like so much is really supposed to be read as "stewed beef" So they stewed it for a good while under high pressures and temperatures in the canning factory probably. Very very tasty. Usually add some spices, like black pepper and such as well into it. It's a dieter's nightmare though. All that fat...
PS! You should also try boiling / cooking those mains unopened in a water bath for quite a while. I think they will be even more tender and less dry, if at all possible!

This is not fat only, actually. It is like a 'thick meat juice' from the stewed meat and beef _bones_ under pressure in the hermetical conditions with pepper, salt, etc. So, it is more like 'meat jelly' which is melting from heat, but will have a jelly form again than cooled down. It is very healthy, actually, because no additional fat is added, only the 'own' beef fat is used.

Seriously, russian mre isotonic drinks don't dissolve easily. Just add some warm/hot water first, mix it until it's dissolved, then add cold water.
And каша just means porridge, any type of it. It may be oatmeal, rice, buckwheat or any other kind.
The mystery drink is probably apple flavour.

I'd be dumping those dry potato shreds into the beef and fat. In the field you want to eat everything given to you - maybe that's why they were dry

I had a French 24h ration with deer liver pate. The translate app called it "dry rot deer." It was hilarious and delicious. The menu no.2 Russian ration had eggplant "caviar" and it was the most disgusting thing ever.

SSJ4Gogitta personally, it depends on the factory making it. I love some brands, but absolutely hate others. Personal way to eat that thing: open the jar, add crushed black pepper, salt, oil(sunflower or olive, I personally use virgin sunflower oil for extra flavour) and a ton of squeezed garlic. Mix in the jar, put the lid back on, let it stay in the fridge overnight. Enjoy. Caution: garlic may taste amazing, but your breath would smell like death probably.

I did not find this russian mre but other ones i did not understand what i would get and would need more information.
Your prices are looking good and you answer questions so i would be intersted in these kind of mre box with several mre's like those first strike ration and the low sodium emergency rations box. I'm in the Netherlands do you send to the Netherlands?
I like this stuf very mutch.
      Greetings,, Kitty.

I wish the MRE menus we had when I was in were half as good as these Russian rations. I was US Army 11B, 1987-1995.

Great review. Good looking 24 Hr. ration. You are correct, this particular meal did seem short on drinks and a few other items. All items looked tasty. Peace, John, AKA, Magnum.

Nice Russian one thanks. Hey I like long reviews. Yeah those seals on the mains are really good, I had to cut mine open. Nice love the beef too. Like the potato stew too. The Kasha is my favorite. Kasha fried and add eggs to it is an amazing breakfast. I liked the caviar too. the pate I had to fight my cat for he wanted it and loved it too. Ewww that drink, I got that one in mine too, kinda lemon kinda lime but really a lot of vitamins taste to it. The beef I added to a bowl of Ramen made it taste fabulous. Great review thanks.
