I saw "The Secret Garden", in 1949.
I will never forget
it. My 3 sisters, were
there with me.
I am 82 years old, and
a contemporary of the
children in this film.
I read the book when I was 12, and I love that
this black and white version of the story, is like an illustration of the book, and gives it
a haunting depth.
The casting was well
thought through, as the
acting ensemble is
what gives this film its
excitement, and life.
Today, I read the sad news that Dean Stock-
well, has died. The first
image that came to my
mind after, was that darling little boy, who was Collin in The Secret Garden.

I saw it as a child too. I am nearing 84 years old and saw a recent version of the film, dated 1993. Not as good as the original though. I thought it was wonderful when they opened the gate and the garden was in colour, as opposed to the black and white of the rest of the film.
This original version of the secret garden is a magic trapped in time.

I love it forever
I know for a time he didn't mind people being curious about how got started so young , kept going til he went into his real passion besides being with his children but I can just imagine how " irritating" it must be especially if the person asks in " ridiculous" ways about your career .he was quite lucky to have such a wide and varied career 👋it was probably ( even though he seemed " shy " about it ) because he was such a beautiful child and was a handsome man !

Dean Stockwell was always my absolute favorite child star.He was for me me the best and so adorable and cute in all his movies as a kid, specially for me as Peter in The boy with green hair! His play was always so incredible also like here in The secret Garden! I loved him so much! ❤❤❤
He was great in " Down to the Sea in Ships " and " Long Day's Journey into Night ".

Puts today's vapid movies to shame. These children and this movie not only makes me cry - it makes me turn philosophical.
😎Dean Stockwell as Colin Craven! He died on 2021, would've been 85 if alive now. Wikipedia has a very good write-up on him.

Too bad this scene ended early because after the crow landed on the doctor’s head, the fox cub attacked his foot and ran off with his shoe then the crow flew off with his toupee and the kids erupted into laughter as the doctor tried to desperately get his toupee back from the bird and everyone except the younger doctor (who keeps sitting in the chair beside himself laughter) and Colin who keeps laughing for a minute straight. That scene ALWAYS makes me laugh for minutes on end! Even the animals could tell that that stuck-up doctor was not the right one for a kid who needed to be running around outside in order to get better😂😂😂

I began watching this movie because I like Herbert Marshall .
It turns out that he's very little time in the movie ,
basically it becomes a screaming match between Margaret O'brien and Dean Stockwell . Unwatchable IMO.
