@@btlim4316trust me mate, its not any way to live life. Crossing the worlds busiest border crossing twice a day during peak hours is soul crushing. I did it for the best part of 7 years. Leave for work at 4.30 am even though I was living just a 15 minute drive away from the second link. The difference between leaving at 4.30 and 4.45 was clearing the customs in about 39 minutes or getting stuck in the jam for up to 2 hours. My luck I worked at the other end of Singapore which meant a 198km round trip daily. 8 hrs work. Than having to stay back for another 2 or 3 hrs to ensure those doing 12hrs are in compliance of OHnS codes and than some. Drive back home took another 2.30 hours on a very good day, average would be about 3 hrs. Ive left work at 4.30pm and reached home at 12 midnight. System down, Malaysian side customs clearance for heavy vehicles shut because the officers were about to break their fasting for Ramadhan. The lorry drivers blocking all three lanes of traffic because they were forced to wait for 2nor 3 hours for the counters to open. or 4 hr drive back. Constantly sleep deprived, tired. Did I mention that one will encounter drivers from the Mad Max movie franchise atleast once a week. To the point I got rid of my SUV and bought a used Triton 4WD with a bull bar and metal scrape guards all around after 2 odd years of dealing with the morons. Especially the ones in Hyundai Starexs illegally ferrying paying passengers in an out daiky. The oversized tyres were worth every penny. Havent even started on the effect it has on your social and personal life. Literally being an absent parent for all intents and purposes because you leave at 4.30 and reach home around 9 or 10. Saturday is gone just catching up on the weekly errands, attending to domestic chores and Sunday is spent trying to repay the sleep debt. Thats a debt that never gets paid. Its not that bad if you are a JB native with an extended family that could help with keeping an eye on your kids while you at work etc. For those who are not native to JB like myself ??? A simple thing like receiving a whatsapp from your 9 year olds class teacher that your kid didnt show up to school that day is not an experience I would wish on any parent. The toll that stress and sleep depravation takes on you and by extention your loved ones will eventually make you realise the truth. The 3 x factor is an advantage that comes with a price. A very steep one for many.

In 1980 Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei had the same value dollar. Today, the Malaysian Ringgit value is 3.5 for the Singapore dollar of Brunei Dollar.
this is because of pegged currency, not because of free market valuation. Brunei has the same value as SGD which is the reason why their economy continuously fell into recession. Pegging currency is never a good idea

Ex Malaysian stop putting Malaysians on pedestal. They are doing it themselves. Contribute to our economy? What? They are the ones who came up with strategies for our economy?
Singapore, a vital small nation, holds significant American interests, attracting consistent investments and support from the US and the West. Consequently, the exchange rate between the Singapore Dollar and the US Dollar has remained stable over the years. To say that the Ringgit is getting weaker is not entirely accurate, as many global currencies have also depreciated against the US Dollar. For example, in 2023-2024, the Japanese Yen, South Korean Won, and Brazilian Real have depreciated much more than the Malaysian Ringgit. Similarly, other currencies such as the Indonesian Rupiah, Philippine Peso, and Vietnamese Dong have also experienced significant depreciation, performing worse than the Ringgit. Therefore, it is not surprising to see people moving abroad to countries where favorable currency exchange rates can lower their living expenses when they bring money back home. I still believe Malaysia is blessed, as the cost of medical care and healthcare remains among the cheapest in the world. In contrast, Singaporeans have to pay significantly more for medical bills and hospitalization.
Commenting as Malaysian: I think first we need to ask why Singapore is chosen as a financial hub. Every country can decrease tax, decrease cost of doing business to attract foreign investment - Malaysia can too, but the whole world chose Singapore because of political stability, general lack of corruption, highly skilled human resource - as a foreign country or a multinational choosing which country to park their money or do business in, they want favorable business conditions and stability, no sudden political / racial issue nonsense. As to currency depreciation, I agree different countries currency depreciate due to different reasons - for example, Japanese yen depreciate because there is weaker demand in Japanese yen and Japanese govt deliberately decrease interest rate to spur their economy and attract foreign investment; whilst for less stable developing countries their currency depreciate due to reducing interest rate to have favorable exports , or genuinely their GDP growth decreased, their currency becomes less reliable, less credible - Malaysia, Philipines generally fall under this category. I agree Malaysia is still a very good place to live, but best to work elsewhere first before coming back. On your last point, Singapore healthcare cost is higher because it is run like private healthcarre system, however most of the expense (60-80%) is covered by Medishield, Medisafe (govt insurance) contributed by their CPF (like EPF in Malaysia), the balance 20-40% of the bill not covered is paid for from private insurance. This way the healthcare system is sustainable and everyone can get the best treatment. On contrary, Malaysia use a different system - Malaysia system follows UK system, where budget flow from MOH to each hospital to manage - whilst mostly free and heavily subsidised, the downside is not every patient gets to have the same good treatment. Some luckier ones get better treatment when MOH give more budget, but most are less lucky. I still appreciate Malaysia MOH and have no qualms recommending it, but I also know its limitation, also the budget have been decreasing past 10 years.

it's difficult to make the leap to high income nation relying only on manufacturing. if you want to manufacture and export a lot, you need to suppress local wages to make them competitive in the overseas market. don't forget singapore's population is so small, you will never survive just focussing on manufacturing for the domestic market. if you want people in Singapore to be better paid, you have to switch to focusing on service industry, where people are paid for the quality of their work and not quantity. unless you saying to use the strong SGD to attract 'cheap labor' from other countries to work in local manufacturing. in which case you need to get ready for an even bigger glut of foreign workers. that is what led to our manufacturing outsourced overseas.

It is time for the Singapore government to consider imposing tariff on Malaysian labor. The "unfair subsidy(subsidized petrol, essentials, etc)" provided by the Malaysian government resulted in "excess capacity" and "illegal dumping" in Singapore. This caused our own Singaporean labor to be priced out due to unfair competition.
Basically as a professional i dont find singapore is lucrative place to work. The reason is cost of living in Singapore is very high. I earn more but i spent much more. For example lunch around 10 dollars . In Malaysia if you convert equal to 35 ringgit. Malaysia dont eat lunch 35 ringgit. We eat around 12 ringgit lunch. Accomodation around 4000 dollars in singapore for 1 unit aprtment while in Malaysia you can get around 1000 to 1200 ringgit which around 300 sing dollars. The only way to gain more if living in Malaysia like johor and travel to sgpore. This will get more or work remotely/offsite from Malaysia. Otherwise i felt our hard earned money is to pay unnecessary thing in singapore which sometimes quality not even pass when i live in malaysia. Living in Malaysia i can have 2-3 cars or more . I can choose public transport as well. The amount of money for accommodation i can live luxurious in Malaysia. Quality of live is better in Malaysia but if you dont mind travel to sgpore early morning and queue up at the border, it is their preference

The problem with Malaysia is that it’s a country that’s too divided on racial lines; they were almost the pioneers of critical race theory being promoted and taught in American and UK schools today. By practicing affirmative action to an extreme extent and nearly only allowing Malays and Bumis into higher education and important roles, that sealed their fate for brain drain and caused large numbers of highly talented people to leave the country for greener pastures. Then when difficult times such as the 08 financial crisis, 1MDB and other events hit, they simply did not have the right caliber of people to manage and mitigate the risks associated with such events. They should have technically had an easier ride than Singapore through crisis, based on their large natural resource reserves and land, but no one was willing to swallow their pride and try to solve the problems until it was too late, because of their upbringing as protected class and privileged members of society.
bro, U've already said what i want to say. Another good example is Argentina, it was once called the United States of South America and because of corruption and mismanagement, the country went into bankruptcy 20 years ago and Argentina's peso depreciated terribly. I think every politician in Malaysia should study the pitfalls of Argentina's economy and how it regresses from once a first-world country to its current fragile state and make the extremist politicians to rethink if they want Malaysia to end up like Argentina.
@@fadhlirosli5224 it will take them a long time to undo the effects of their affirmative action. Those who were hired in those times and still working will not easily give up their places for people who might be more skilled and talented than they are, after all they’ve got families and mortgages to pay for. And any sane government would not seek radical change either, as it would leave many jobless and on state welfare, plus implications of losing political power. Definitely not a wise thing to do in these economically challenging times. The only remedy is that as the older generation retire, the younger replacing them will be hired differently, bringing in slow but sure change. I love our malaysian who come here to work in Singapore. But I don't like working with them. Because they come here to work with 4x the salary they get, they will do anything and everything the supervisor or manager tells them to do. Even if it's not their job scope. This will spoil the work ethics. For example, working as a building maintenance, spoil motor pump suppose to be contractor job. But because they were told to do what they can by the management, even if it's in a confine space, they will do it. Us Singaporean who knows the law. We won't do it. Why? Confine space and it's beyond our pay grade as building maintenance. Management reason will always be, to safe cost. My reason as an employee will be, there are 1001 ways to safe cost and this is not the way. Compromising maintenance as a way to safe cost.

At least Msians can commute daily to Singapore for 3.5X more salary. Singaporeans can only migrate out and never come back. The ability to migrate means other countries value Singaporeans that are well-equipped with the right skills and education sought after by international firms.
Many excuses. Typical Malaysian.

The strong Singapore dollar draws talents from abroad, but our manufacturing also got outsourced overseas. Everything has to import.
it's difficult to make the leap to high income nation relying only on manufacturing. if you want to manufacture and export a lot, you need to suppress local wages to make them competitive in the overseas market. don't forget singapore's population is so small, you will never survive just focussing on manufacturing for the domestic market. if you want people in Singapore to be better paid, you have to switch to focusing on service industry, where people are paid for the quality of their work and not quantity. unless you saying to use the strong SGD to attract 'cheap labor' from other countries to work in local manufacturing. in which case you need to get ready for an even bigger glut of foreign workers. that is what led to our manufacturing outsourced overseas.
@@jjsamuelgunn1136 Not necessarily. Your thesis only holds true during period of peace & abundance. As can be see during Covid, a box of mask can costs upwards of 50-100 dollars. We Malaysians are severely underpaid. The basic salary here is RM1,500, while the cheapest rent for a room is RM650. Even with a diploma or a degree, employers often pay only the minimum wage. Allhamdulila, this malay is good, hope every malays learn from his attitude.
This is so interesting, do you have any resources to recommend for further reading on this topic?
I believe they have already abolished quota for higher education since 2000. Now meritocracy takes place, but the myth about quota still there.
bro, U've already said what i want to say.
And any sane government would not seek radical change either, as it would leave many jobless and on state welfare, plus
implications of losing political power. Definitely not a wise thing to do in these economically challenging times. The only remedy is that as the older generation retire, the younger replacing them will be hired differently, bringing in slow but sure change. Let this be a warning to Europe and America about what will happen next
The Malay leaders don't care about the fate of Malaysians or the country. If it goes bankrupt they already secured their bags in off shore accounts and can go live in other European countries with no worries for the next few generations

Because they come here to work with 4x the salary they get, they will do anything and everything the supervisor or manager tells them to do.

But because they were told to do what they can by the management, even if it's in a confine space, they will do it.

@@cikmeow2050 Too much corruption inside the system. Too late.
Hell nahh.. religion and monarchy, it's not the problem. The problem is the Malaysian mindset. Their old-school mindset needs to change and adapt for the better.
Tell that to the students with 8As and above, compared to those with 6As and above managed to secure spots in education. You may not be eligible to the "many special benefits", but in general, it's caused many nons to lose hope.
The MADANI (BN-PH) govt in Malaysia is pretty useless and always tell lies and empty promises to KENCING rakyat everyday!
Malays are not mentally sophisticated and this is a blessing in disguise for chinese majority Singapore. Chinese are intelligent and cunning.
But if you spent your salary in Singapore or leave in Singapore with the figure how would you said?
That's valid point. 4k salary in sg & spending in sg = barely live by.. $ goes to rent , utilities, vehicle installment, insurance, family allowance(if any)
Malaysia,s racial policies in education , civil service etc will benefit Singapore .
Imagine 90% seats in Govt owned universities ,colleges paid by tax payers money reserved for Malays .
Civil service - 95% - 97% reseved for Malays ,Civil service -1.7 million civil servants.
If the Malaysian govt keeps 65- 70% for Malays for civil service jobs n seats in education then ,I think it is ok .
Imagine yourself, 2A can enter govt University n 7A cannot enter university .
*How can u lower stds * ,?
**Even our mothers who gave birth to us as babies do not lower stds ,mothers will give the highest stds in biology , physiology , emotions , brain formation. etc**
The education system need to be reformed.
Singapore,s Talent Search will secretly , quietly , silently , pick Malaysia,s top talent .They work like Mossad .
Already ,I million Malaysian workers from semi - skilled , skilled , professionals staying n working in Singapore .
Another 400 K Malaysian workers travel to fro to Singapore .
I feel for you bruh, if can migrate lah, vote with your feet.
Sorry to break your bubble but nobody with 2a getting into university here unless they're super rich and enter private uni
@@noorulhasan4904 ... Really ahhh .... From what Ex-Malaysians told me your exams grading are done separately ie the NM and MM are marked differently NOT together! So are you sure your 2A are really 2A and not 2C or 2D? And before exams you have extra TUTORIAL CLASSES where you're given Questions and Answers. Betul kah 2A??? Or are these Ex-Malaysians are telling untruths???
@@genbond7459 My God, you are so racist towards Malay. You speak without evidence. Shame on you!
@@awanbiru-xb5dy Abang, do your research. There's hundreds of thousands of Malaysians who are treated as second class citizens by their own gomen (they are called pendatang (Immigrants) working in Singapore. Interview them, I'm only saying what they themselves said.
I'm working for Singapore company based. My engineer also from JB, he back on forth daily

Malaysian should watch this and understand what they are achieving in Singapore..Not just looking down on Singaporeans visiting their country..
Where all the meleis now? Why so quiet with your “tak suka , keluarlah” mentality
x suka keluarla..
Lol melei with their “tak suka, keluarlah” mentality are silent now
At least Msians can commute daily to Singapore for 3.5X more salary. Singaporeans can only migrate out and never come back.
Singaporeans are struggling even more with the high cost of living here, and salary doesn't match the cost of living here.
At least Msians all can afford a car or at least a bike. Alot of mothers can afford to be full time housewives.
Most Singaporeans don't owe any vehicle and it's practically impossible for mothers to be homemakers here.
You need to live outside your little bubble of contentment.
The ability to migrate means other countries value Singaporeans that are well-equipped with the right skills and education sought after by international firms. I'm not sure if this is true for many Malaysians..
Cost of living is high in Singapore but that reflects the wealth of a nation. Have you been to Switzerland?
Homeownership is over 90%.
While cars are expensive in Singapore, they're not necessities due to a modern, robust transport infrastructure, something that is completely lacking in most parts of Malaysia.
So housing and transport are taken care of, hawker centres provide affordable food.
Oh still there's groceries, but that's what JB is for right? Sorry for driving up prices there though.
At the end of the day, it is not about currency or high salary but quality of life. If currency is high, high salary but cost of living is high, your hard earned money is meant for the bank loan and unnecessary expenses.

@@berjayanadi6114 Singapore's salary relative to cost of living is still far better than Malaysia. I can accumulate wealth with my SG salary. You try going to Malaysia and earn ringgit see whether you'll find it cheap.
@@KucintaMom You think costs of living is low elsewhere? Sounds like you don't travel much.
