    Appreciate the explanation. Would be even better if you could do a head-to-head comparison, shining using the equivalent products from these two lines on the same pair of shoes.

      from my own experience a) the Saphir Medaille d’Or is way easier to apply than the SBC b) the shine is I'll say a bit shinier than the SBC. And you can seriously smell the difference.

    • @MeepMeep88
      @MeepMeep88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's the shine that matters between the two different levels. It's how easy it is to get that shine or how long it lasts etc etc.
      Both have the same shine, one will take longer to get that shine.

      @@fluxnfiction5559 The SBC still smells nice, though, especially the cremes! Been using the creme and wax polish from the BC line on my Allen Edmonds and I LOVE the results! I'm sure the Medaille d'Or is superior, but for me, the BC is more than good enough, and it's much more moderately priced.

Did you not apply 1-2 layers of Saphir wax (not cream) polish on the whole upper of the shoe when exposing it to rain? - generally the wax layer(s) are supposed to make the water bead off and any surface water stains can be wiped off with water+alcohol or 1 session of waxing and buffing.

    Hi Kirby - big fan of your TH-cam channel and really enjoy the information.
    I often wear brown wingtip shoes in a business casual atmosphere with either dress pants or dark denim. I have read that it can be difficult to pair high shined shoes with jeans so I am hesitate to over-shine the shoes. Is there a method or product that will allow me to clean and care for shoes like brown wingtips without creating a high gloss? Thank you.

    • @IveJustSeenAFace23
      @IveJustSeenAFace23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thought I’d chime in. Yes. As he states in the video, both Saphir cream polishes contain waxes. The saphir Renavateur also contains wax. By applying one or both, and using a horsehair brush (as well as a polishing cloth if you apply cream polish), you’ll get a great “soft” shine. The shoes will look clean and cared for without the high shine. I own a lot of wingtips and adhere to a dress code like you, and this is my go-to method. Cheers.

    Hi Kirby, i'm in a little bit of dilemma..
    I have to order 2 creams and I used the Saphire Nuancier to find out what colors I do actually need. It results that I need a n.10 Cognac, which is available in the MDO line and the n.86 Campari which is only available in the BTC line.
    Do you think that I could get away with changing the Campari for the n.11 Hermes Red ( which I initially though my darker shades were ) which is really close but just not spot on?
    Thank you very much.

    • @prussiaball8229
      @prussiaball8229 ปีที่แล้ว

      He has explained in other videos that even with the wide range offered, a perfect match is sometimes not achievable, but you have to remember that the pigments are not going to completely change the finish of the shoe, and that they are reversible, with the saphir reno’mat for example. He also tends to give examples of how playing with different shades can produce interesting outcomes, so I would say go for it, I don’t think you’ll regret it, since the color, as you say, is quite very similar. Hope this might help.

      If you're talking about accessories like wallets and so on, my advice is going for Lotion or Renovateur . That type of leather doesn't need a lot of care. Using wax is tricky as leather have some texture in which a cream tends to deposit. It's always best to use it sparingly and buff of with a bush rather than a cloth, again, due to the textured leather.

      I really don’t get why so many Americans ignore the apostrophe when pronouncing words in other languages. The whole “dior” just sounds so wrong to my ears!

      Beaute de cuir gets butchered. Boo-tay de queer is closer. As a French speaker, the pronunciation by all the shoe bloggers hurts my ears! Otherwise, love the content and I got a new hobby during the COVID hiatus from normal life

    Wow very impressive review, you know your stuff! However, Omg when you say: beauté du cuir lol I am french, please have someone french teach you how to prononce it, I had to hear it like 10 times to know what you were saying, it doesn’t even sound close lol it’s ok to have an accent, but people still have to know what you are saying.

    It is September, and I have just bought - by post - two 50 ml Saphir Medaille d'or's, - but there is no way I can get the tins opened! I work with thick leathers, horses, dogs - I have a strong pinch, but they will not open. I am of well average intelligence, no problems so far opening any other box or container in my 65 years of life, but the lid won't budge, no matter what. I have written the shop, I have spoken to Saphir Paris - not much luxury help to match the advertisement.
    And no, I simply will not puncture the lid, or take a screw driver to it and ruin the container - it costs enough a tin.
    My conclusion? I will never buy your products again, as IF there is some fluke, there is not much luxury in the way of interest from Saphir. KIWI might not be as posh, but it opens.
    I am sure this is just some odd occurrence, but most of luxury lies in how you are met when there is a problem. Imagine you bought a pair of high end shoes - or bag - and the container, the box would not open?
    And nobody was really interested.

    I appreciate the product comparison, but dear lord, the poor people at Saphir would be cringing at the pronunciation of the product names.
    For non-french speakers, the "beauty cure", actually 'beauté du cuir', can be pronounced like "bow-tay do queer".
    The "medalle de yore" is more like 'meh-die door'. You won't actually win a gold medal for pronouncing it like that, but you will have a better chance of coming away with the right product if you're in France. If you're in Quebec though, all bets are off. I never could get the hang of their pronunciation ;)

    These products have such odd sounding names. I wouldn’t want to ask for them in a shop.

      These are "normal words" in French that have a meaning and could be translated into English. They only sound very special because of the English pronunciation (strong accent).
      No offense! It's just the way it is. English and French are both foreign languages to me and I know how much learning it needs to get it right. 😅
