Without question, the de Havilland Mosquito qualifies as one of the finest fighting aeroplanes of the Second World War and one which could claim to be the envy of every other air force, particularly the Luftwaffe, who tried, but never quite managed to produce an equivalent aircraft.
A true multi-role aircraft, the Mosquito's famous nickname 'The Wooden Wonder' referenced the fact that this hugely successful British aircraft was constructed using 'non-strategic' materials and employed a clever system of balsa and birch plywood lamination, which gave the aircraft great strength.

What a great video. To see what the designer was striving for and to listen to a designer who is a builder is the way all kits should be designed. I hope to see more these type videos in the future. Congrats on a beautiful, practical designed kit. PS other companies had better take a heads up here. This is the future and this gentleman is the type of deigner you need to be employing if you want to stay competitive. Airfix has gone from from to second tier to innovator with this business model

There is a great set of booklets by Argus Books called Aircraft Archive. In one of them it shows a man next to an aircraft and he's holding a tape measure and notebook. That was how it was done back then if they didn't have drawings as a resource. I assume that the CNC process for mould cutting has made it easier also.

We need more men like this. He has put so much effort and thought into the design, in order to make the build that much easier. And the Bomb Bays... I can't wait to build this Kit.

I don't build in 1/72 scale anymore but the way that Paramjit describes how he approached this, from a modellers perspective, makes me want to build one! I love the commitment to getting the bulged canopy parts right. Keep it up Paramjit. :)

I would like to shake this guys hand, not only has he produced a kit I have been wanting for quite some time, ( I am aware of, and have three of the Matchbox kit but that is a child of its time and rather basic) he has done a spectacular job of it.
    Thank you sir.

      Got something else to add.
Please could this guy get to work on a Manchester and a Lincoln.
And if you good folks at Airfix want a suggestion for a new model that has only seen vacform or limited run injection molding how about a TR1/TR1A/ER2(NASA) SPYPLANE in 1/72?
We are very long overdue a decent kit of this important type.

As a middle aged veteran with PTSD I’ve come back to modelling as a way to fill my head with the details of a build and not leave the room for the bad shit for a few hours and I’ve found that it works

I’ve been modeling since about 1960… over the years I’ve often wondered who designs & engineers model kits, instruction drawings, the actual molds, decal sheets, etc. It’s wonderful to see and hear a designer discuss the evolution of a model kit, great insights into the process & problem solving aspects. I love the latest kits of Airfix, especially the Beaufort & Mosquito, and the Blenheim & Walrus in 1:48. Please make more videos like this, perhaps even one showing what production facilities in India is like!

Wow. What a world we live in.
I've been modeling as an adult for 15 + years now, and have won awards with my 1/700th Scale ships. Over the years I have often wondered who designs the kits I buy, and what their perspective is. Recently I got into aircraft and picked up this kit at the local hobby shop. I want to make some comments about Mr. Paramjit's work.
My first Airfix kit was the Typhoon Mk Ib. I was pleased with the kit, and I thought the instructions were adequate. The next kit I bought was the Tempest V. I thought that kit was a distinct improvement over the Typhoon, with better detail, and a more logical construction sequence.
When I bought the Mosquito, I was immediately impressed with the quality of the casting, but especially the instructions. There are guys out there that love to buy these horrible old kits, sweat and curse over them, and then complain when they're done that they did the best they could. God bless them, I am not in that club. I want the newest, best, most detailed kit I can get. When I see a CAD rendering of the model on the box art, that's a plus for me. When I see CAD renderings in the instructions that's another plus. The extra steps and measures Mr. Paramjit has engineered into the model is the sort of thing that I don't expect, but very much appreciate when I see.
As I haven't built the kit yet, I don't have any comments on the actual construction, but I just finished a build video where the modeler speaks of how well the parts assemble. I think this is a real benchmark of a kit, and I hope to see more of this kind of work from Airfix in the future. Well done and keep up the great work!

    1. The aircraft itself is a beauty
    2. That colour scheme is great

    4. Listening to this designers passion and explaining his project is simply a pleasure.

Quality content, Airfix! I bought this kit - even if it is not in the scale I prefer nor is it a subject I'm interested in - because you had Paramjit talk about the process of designing it. I'd highly recommend to use this as a best practice in terms of promo around the release of a kit - because it really works.

  • @Adam_Boots
    @Adam_Boots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

As someone who has actually built this kit I have to say that it was an enjoyable build.
The step in using the wing as a jig made it so much easier to get everything lined up.
I was impressed by how minimal any gaps were though tbh I don't actally recall having any. Pieces fitted just how you would want them to.
I would love to see a version of the kit which could be built as the prototype W4050 with the possibility of having shorter nacelles from the first flight. It would make a lovely display having the evolution of the Mosquito as it is one of the few prototype aircraft which survived the war and has been restored for display.

Think the bomb bay has external fixtures from the TT35 (at Hendon?). Very easy to fix, I will have a moderately sized squadron of these things.
What he HAS got right is the separate fuel tanks on the bomb bay roof. These were omitted from the 4000lb carrying Mosquito to make room for the bomb winch and release gear. Kudos!

Hi Paramjit, this looks like its gonna be a future classic mate. Not seen the kit in the flesh yet but followed its development via work bench. Much as I liked the previous Airfix Mossie kits in both 1/72 and 1/48th scale were not easiest to put together, I found particularly the wings and engine nacelles could be problematic. It sounds like you've solved these issues I like the idea of using the spar on the wings I guess that helps with the design of the Bomb bay too. Correct me if I'm wrong but in the scale its the first kit to have the option for an open bomb bay?
I also like the idea of using the wing as a jig to assemble the undercarriage too, hopefully you can utilise this method in future projects too.
I look forward to having a go at your Mosquito soon :) Congratulations on a job well done.

Airfix may not be the best but Airfix is a staple in modelling, if you ask an experienced modeller what their first model was, most will say "Airfix Spitfire" or "Airfix Tiger" . It has a very nostalgic feel from the video, to the boxart to the instructions.

I am currently building the new tool Sabre . I can see that the design was very good but when you make it the poor quality plastic and moulding create a lot of difficulties . Generally the chunky soft plastic and tendency for it to be warped makes a good design spoilt . Airfix really need to take production back into their own hands , improve the quality ( including packaging ) . As you mentioned competitors , look at Tamiya kits . The price differential has lessened a lot lately . I am building their P38 at the moment it is near perfect and didn't cost a lot more than the Sabre . Which is crude in comparison .

I appreciate the love and care but for Pete's sakes please put pilots in my beloved airfix it's not fair to some who like pilots in the cockpit not a cock pit that has more parts than the whole model
