Buffalo is not a part of the New York Metro Area, it’s just in New York State. The Sabres are literally closer to Toronto than they are to New York City…

And then we also got a "if you count it" for the New Jersey Devils... who used to play in the same arena complex as two teams called "New York" in football before moving within 30 minutes away. We know who's not from the area LOL.

Good video. I would say the very end is weird. The Devils are in the NY Metropolitan area, they're just a short train ride away from MSG. The Isles are actually further away. The Sabers are def not part of the area, as they play a good 6 hour drive from NYC.

The Devils are definitely a part of the NYC metro area. You can watch a Rangers’ matinee game after the game, go down the elevator to Penn Station, hop on a NJ Transit train, 2 stops later, get off at Newark Penn Station and walk up the street to watch the Devils’ evening game. The trip time should take no more than 45 minutes to an hour. You’ll even have time to grab a coffee, before your train.
Speaking of the Devils, when the team moved from Colorado to NJ, one of the names they seriously considered before going with the Devils, was Americans.

@@BallparkHunter People from other parts of the country are surprised how easy it is to cross state lines in the Northeast. Drive for 3 hours and you can cross into 4 different states. So they think NJ must be far from NYC because it’s another state, even though it’s just across the river. And Buffalo is really far away from the city, even though it is in the same state.

The Islanders weren't,and AREN'T,a New York City team. While they were meant to share the New York market (really,Long Island was granted a team to make sure the World Hockey Association wouldn't succeed in NY...and it worked,as the New York Raiders were driven out),the Islanders were meant to be the team of the suburbs. Oddly enough, prior to 1972,Rangers players and their families lived on Long Island. After the Islanders arrived, the Rangers settled in Westchester, north of NYC. As for the Islanders, they're considered Long Island's team, and a prominent part of Long Island's identity, distinguishing it from the city - something Long Islanders proudly point out. NYC and Long Island are COMPLETELY different places, and both look down their noses at one another. If you want to trigger a Long Islander, call them a New Yorker, while a New Yorker looks at Long Island like it was another state. Long Island has even wanted to separate from New York State a few times. It's like saying Canadians and Americans are the same thing. Islander fans don't even call the team by its full name. It's just "the Islanders" or "the Isles". As someone from Long Island, I think it would be pretty cool, just to have a team known by its name... I mean, the Dynasty still speaks for itself, even 40 years later

New York sports owners are lazy. We almost had MLB/NHL/NFL teams named the “Giants” and almost had all 4 sports league New York counterparts try at “Americans” it’s frankly disgusting how little effort are put into the names of the NY varsity teams. Also New York, NY is the name and address of the city so these teams do not represent the state, had the city kept its last previous name the teams would be known as the New Orange Rangers and New Orange Mets. The islanders as for representation is ambiguous, however I believe they would fall in line if the 9 other sports teams followed suit to renaming. 🫤
