      @Rhys Williams Yeah, no.

    • @mrcheesemunch
      @mrcheesemunch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @Rhys Williams I don't care what anyone says I still think Tyrell was never real. He seems like he could have been the real Elliot fighting back or something, there's too much weirdness surrounding him for me to think he was just some normal dude.
      That whole episode with him, Elliot and Mr. Robot walking around the woods for hours was sketchy as fuck, they're lost for four hours or something(I believe they say the time) and not one person found that Dark Army guy in the van?
      Everything always seemed to go wrong when Elliot, Mr. Robot and Tyrell were all together like their brain couldn't process that.
      And then there's that weird ass scene with Joanna interrogating Elliot, like she knows who he is.

    • @mrcheesemunch
      @mrcheesemunch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Rhys Williams Yeah the main hole with Tyrell not being real is that he interacts with other people but I don't see how this couldn't be simulated somehow.
      One thing the show never does much to explain is how Tyrell knows how to hack? Like out of nowhere he's skilled enough for the Dark Army to rely on him? What's that all about?
      But the van was literally like a couple hundred meters down the road from that gas station, for four hours not one person drove by? And the guy was just passed out there the whole time despite being lucid enough to shoot Tyrell?
      As said that whole episode was whack, from my perspective it's like he was an alter the real Elliot's mind created to fight back and that was the point the alter gave up and went back to his world, with that random light he saw.
      And then we see Tyrell again trying to shoot The Mastermind, despite their already being a different Tyrell in that world.
      Notice how many times Tyrell tries to kill MM, their relationship is weird and I really struggle to pass it off as "He's just crazy"
      I'll stop there before going off on a colossal rant...
      But one last thing, do we even know what the real Elliot looks like? He could have originally been Tyrell perhaps. The Mastermind's appearance, like Mr. Robot, doesn't once change throughout the show. Not the biggest coincidence but Tyrell also hated his father and didn't want to be like him...

      @MysteryHandle76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      @@i_dont_know_who_i_am69 Yeah I recently rewatched it and I can understand why people dropped it at that point. It's a very slow season and focuses far more on the supporting cast, also the twist most people predicted just from the first ep and all the weird bizare stuff Esmail put in. I think because it wasn't answering the questions of season one people grew impatient with it especially with the pacing and thought it would be another Lost situation. Where it's all build up for nothing.
      However in context with the rest of the show it's a fantastic season and I'd rather a show that takes risks than one that's safe and doesn't

    • @macisr
      @macisr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@MysteryHandle76 Yeah, everyone dropped it on season two. I think it was because season 1 was more of a character study that focused on Elliot and a kind of small scale story that was contained, while season two focused less on elliot and more on setting up the table for what was to come. Season 1 is a different genre from the other seasons. I think that to appreciate season 2 one has to think of it as the first season, and season 1 more like a prequel. Kind of like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo where the second and third books are connected and are kind of a different style, while the first one is a self contained story.

      how 405 Method Not Allowed denies the 'method' of communication: dialogue,
      and how 407 Proxy Authentication Required refers to Elliot needing Vera/Krista as proxies in order to unlock his past

      The first time I watched season 4, I was confused as to how I felt about it. Some parts were welcomed and others felt a little alienating. But the second time through, the ending really hit me in the "little boy inside" and I bawled my eyes out of my skull. lol that second viewing helped me realize that the entire show was a distraction. The whole "saving the world" plot was a device used to distract Elliot from saving himself. This is something I think we all can (and/or should) relate to. We tend to distract ourselves with simple concepts (such as: good vs evil, us vs them, me vs society) because it's much easier to digest then dealing with complex personal trauma and how its effected/changed us and how to rectify that and be better people for it. You don't really notice when you're on autopilot until you've hit a wall, but are you going to stop and assess the damage or try to drive off like it didn't happen?
      This show wasn't perfect, but it took alot of chances, showcased some great cinematography, acting, production and it latched on to our emotions. I can't even believe a tv show could look like this. I will miss the excitement, and can't wait to start it over from the top! :)

    A week before I started season 4, a friend told me that she was raped when she was younger.
    And just like Elliot in season 4, it painted her character in a new light, a lot of what she did, how she acted, how she dealt with her problems, now just "made sense" in light of this traumtatic event.
    So yeah, that reveal hit me pretty hard in Mr.Robot, it was done perfectly and Elliott's character was already complex enough for it to not feel cheap or unearned.
    People will go to dark places to avoid suffering from a traumatic event, Elliott's personnality disorder is the focal point of the show, so not knowing why it started would have been a mistake.
    We needed to undertands why he was like that in order to properly assess how far he had grown.
    And I hope this friend of mine will one day be strong enough to face her monster and grow past it like Elliott did.

From the very beginning, as it was released, episode by episode, and I was extremely happy about your first video on this show! You’re one of the best on this website. I loved how hyped and happy you were during that video and this video for the art of it. I look forward to part 2... I have told the 7 closest people to me to watch this masterpiece and they’ve all joined happily on this journey just like our comment section here... I just wanted to say thank you Ralph, you reach a wide audience and if you persuaded at least one person to watch. Then, you’re doing Sam Esmail proud. All of the cast and crew made this for us. To me, my perfect series. In conclusion, Mr Robot is my favourite of all time, and it’ll be with me for a very long time...

    I could be wrong but the way 407 was directed feels like the most cinematic episode Sam Esmail has ever brought to the show. Here’s Elliot playing god without permission, hacking people and invading people’s privacy. Elliot is arguably as much of a problem to society as the Deus Group. How ironic.
    I love that element they added to Philip and Whiterose’s relationship. It’s kind of what Terry Colby was saying in season 1. He said something about how grudges in business don’t really exist because they’re not professional. Despite Whiterose taking everything from him, he has to keep meeting with her and putting his feelings aside because that’s just how business is.
    I love how Whiterose’s assistant keeps warning her about much of a threat Elliot poses and because of her ego, she ignores her assistant and underestimates Elliot. I like how they don’t just dumb her down and completely undermine how manipulative Whiterose is. Whiterose is just a very driven person with priorities in mind that maybe she shouldn’t have. Her motivation to build the plant was just too strong and overpowered her better judgment. I love my villains who are just smart, but also emotional.
    9:21 I love bottle episodes like that.
    11:45 I doubt he’s completely moved on from Angela, given how badly he wanted to stay in “F World.”
    24:20 I need to know the name of that song playing while the Patreon credits are rolling. Somebody please tell me.
    I wish I became as invested into this show while it was still airing as I am now. I remember watching the first few episodes with my dad and I thought it was boring. I was pretty young. Those were the only ones I watched then and I didn’t remember them very much until recently. This show means so much more to me now.

    Mr Robot is a sequel to Gleaming the Cube. They've traded their skate boards in for computers but we all saw that coming with Hackers. I didn't see Hackers as it looked stupid from the preview, but it might have bridged the gap between Robot and Cube. The path is pretty linear even if you use your imagination. They had to phase out the skate rebellion and bring the computers, as you can only go so far with skateboards.

And after Trenton dies, the disk he puts her memories on is Born In The USA by Bruce Springsteen, which is supposed to reference her brother and the relationship the US has with her people. I just think that these small details really make the show, and the fact they they even cared to put so much attention into it is amazing.

    What a pleasant Birthday surprise..I hope. I loved the first RTMM installment 2 years ago. I've been an avid fan for 5 years though, and SPOILERS: was really hoping Sam would stick the landing with something less flashy/magician's trick and something FAR More grounded in reality. By adding to the "solve the mystery" plot with the sn 2 reveal & social media participation, Esmail led me to believe that Elliot would realize that another personality was causing him to lose time, engage in cruel acts, like blackmailing Olivia, etc.. I was hoping that EA would become aware of his actions over the past "year/2015", and would "die" for them, like Walt did in "Breaking Bad". I didn't expect to have the rug yanked out from under me, with the reveal that I've spent 5 years and 10 rewatches of a non-existent character-that "Elliot's" struggles weren't even real, smh..

      Well, everything in the show happened, nothing of that was a dream or something, the Elliot we see throughout the show is not inexistent, he's still Elliot, not the "whole" Elliot, but it's a part of him, specifically, it's his rage and anger for his trauma, and that "part" is still as Elliot as the "real" Elliot, so all his struggles are very real, that's how DID works. Also the DID of Elliot is very grounded in reality, in fact, that is one of the most real depictions of DID in TV. So MM Elliot discovers that he is an alter and then he and all the alters decides to give the control back to "Elliot", it is, they "join" all their memories so the host, "Elliot", would be "complete" and remember everything, I think it's a good example of a person's healing process from DID. That ties up the ending and the whole plot perfectly, I dont' see a magician's trick in it, the fact that the Elliot we see is not the invidivual known as Elliot but and alter of his, and all the thing with the rest of the alters, were grounded in reality and the resolution made sense within that, because the thing with the Elliot we see throughout the series being just another alter makes sense with the macro storyline of the series: alienation and how modern society alienates individuals, as Elliot was alienated from himself. And maybe Elliot wouldn't die for his actions during the year 2015, but he remember all what happened and he'll probably end up in jail for decades, which is sad, but the whole plot was solved masterfully. The show was about Elliot being broke into pieces, with him being no more than a piece of his real being, and at the end all those pieces came back together.

    hi, so this video is really great, bit I just wanted to provide a bit of info on what you said around 23:44 "just like not every person with Dissociative Identity Disorder has some deep buried traumatic experience". I watch a person on youtube with DID, and the reason this disorder develops in the first place is when children experience repeated trauma before their personality has fully developed (at ages 7-9), and the brain puts up amnesiac barriers to prevent certain parts of the brain from remembering the trauma memories so that they can function normally and keep the body alive. because the personality hasn't developed fully yet, this leads to the "splitting" of the personality and creation of alters that hold different memories and have different functions for the body. without repeated trauma in childhood, the brain wouldn't do this and DID would not develop - so basically every person with the disorder has some type of trauma (unless there are special cases of people being born with it or developing it randomly/for no reason. again, I don't have DID and only watch videos from someone who does - the channel is called Dissociadid - so I def don't know everything!) just wanted to share since most ppl don't know anything about this disorder! :)
