It's not precisely a fourth wall break.
Canonically speaking, Elliot's mastermind personality also sees himself as the protagonist, with himself feeling like an audience to his own actions...

This series is a masterpiece. The way in Mr. Robot character changed from being a leader, father, enemy and ally to an Elliot's guardian angel is just insane... I remember when 4th season was released and I sat with my highschool friends and theorize about the 3rd personality and how the finale will look like but none of us could ever predict how crazy it was after all. This is still the most underrated series I know.

What I love most about this show is that it's about a deeply damaged individual, who feels so alone and desperate that he literally constructs people and personalities to be there for him. In my opinion there's something very profound about that, how the human condition naturally tries to find strength even through overwhelming weakness.

Dark is bland and extremely repetitive in comparison to Mr Robot. The acting, the dialogue, the plot of Mr Robot is unique and comes together beautifully whereas Dark is random and just abandons the its premis it built to go in a different direction in S3. I have Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), and I must say that Mr. Robot offers the most accurate portrayal of DID I've seen in Hollywood so far. It’s refreshing to see a media representation that handles the disorder with such care. DID is often misunderstood and rarely visible to those around us. In fact, most people with DID don’t show noticeable signs, and even close friends or family might not be aware when 'switching' between alters occurs. It takes trauma-informed therapists, who are specially trained, to truly identify and treat DID effectively. I'm grateful to the writers, actors, and creators of this show for their thoughtful work, which contributes to destigmatizing mental health conditions like DID. It’s important to approach this with nuance rather than the exaggerated portrayals often seen online. Let’s continue to support media that helps bring awareness and understanding to conditions that are so often hidden.

I got introduced just after season 3 started. From writing, acting, the score by Mac Quayle, it is all a modern masterpiece of entertainment, and the most technical accurate show/movie regarding cybersecurity and hacking. My only regret is only being able to see it for the first time once.

This would have been a very challenging show to write. The DID is revealed in the 8th episode of the first season and the show didn't mind if we figured it out before it was revealed. And then in the second season we learn that the reality that the mastermind presents us with isn't always if ever a literal interpretation of what's going on... I don't know why most viewers seem to forget this and proceed to take everything we hear and see as it's presented to us (especially the Angela White Rose scene and the Elliot White Rose scene). And then there are over a dozen references to parallel realities, but most viewers assume that this is in reference to White Rose's project alone, yet there are so many lines throughout that mirror one another (there are at least a couple of characters who mirror one another, who use the identical phrases etc, I highly doubt it's due to lazy writing). It's challenging to open up all those possibility, yet make the reality that's presented to the viewers believable enough to keep them engaged, otherwise it's like watching a dream sequence that they know is a dream sequence. It ultimately doesn't matter if in the end if what we observed was real or not whether partially or fully as long as it's able to make us believe that it is and the show does an amazing job at making us believe it despite these layers that they reveal to us. Something like Fight Club for example... we don't know the twist until the end. This show reveals that twist in the beginning, but then there's other stories and other twists (some of which slowly get revealed throughout) that keep us engaged.
A show that failed miserably at doing this is the show Legion. I see it as a cautionary tale. It's a show that deals with mental illness (psychosis/schizophrenia), but they completely show their hand in the first episode and make the visual realities so grandiose that it's 100% without any shadow of a doubt a figment of the main characters (David) imagination. In the first episode they even show the visual reality through the video camera that's recording what the room sees vs. what David sees. I only made it through the 5th episode, but it's essentially like watching a hours of a dream sequence (over 20 hours worth) that you know and have been told is a dream sequence. The cinematography and everything is awesome, however it was one of the most boring viewing experiences I've ever endured, because I/we know it's all in David's head. I guess it may work on some viewers if they can dupe themselves into believing Davids grandiose reality is what's potentially happening... I tried my hardest to dupe myself into believing it, so I could enjoy the show, but the show doesn't ever give us the option. I thought maybe I could grab onto the super hero element (which isn't my thing, but at least it's something), so I wouldn't have to hold the standards of the show to a realistic reality, which apparently it's supposed to be based on (it appears to have been a marketing gimmick, because they certainly don't commit to that reality either). To me that show is the perfect example of what not to do, when dealing with subject matter in this realm.

this series is a philosophical problem, every season you are given a premise, the world is drawn out and the protagonist tries to provide a solution to it. the very next season the very solution from the previous season becomes the problem. I dont think on a purely creative and logical sense there has been better in depth writing that this show. I have seen many series in which, the characters stay constant, characters evolve, the world stays constant, the world evolves. but to maintain a dialogue over seasons and also evolving characters and writing, no series comes close. and over 4 seasons gosh this series is so personal to me on so many levels
