- I've had the guidebook for The Skye Trail for many years, but at the end of April 2023, I finally made my way to the Isle of Skye for this incredibly beautiful hike.
I heard that this trail is very challenging, especially because there is no waymarking and sometimes the paths are not clearly visible. This was one of the reasons why it took me so long to finally give this trail a go. However, I found that for a more experienced hiker, this trail is not too difficult to navigate (given that weather is fair).
This is part 1 of 3 of this adventure.

I‘m planning to walk the trail in May. As maybe everybody I“m a bit concerned about the weather. 🙈
Yes, May is usually best for weather and midges... but I did not find the trail too crowded, not like the West Highland Way for example

Thanks for sharing your solo adventure. Is that the Portree Campsite? I am planning to do this first section from the northern point to Portree campsite this September. Would it be a three day trek? Any suitable spot to camp before the Old Man Stor ?
Yes, I stayed at the Portree Campsite. There are many suitable spots to camp before the Old Man Storr, but when I was there it was extremely wet, windy, and boggy. There were a few people camped at the highest point before going down towards the Old Man Storr, which seemed a really good spot.
