Every time I watch a video of yours, I’m astounded by all of the tips you mention just as you explain your process. I really appreciate the time you take to make your content!
Another great video Christine. After a long journey from Queensland via South Australia, it was so nice to meet you yesterday and your just as lovely in real life as you are in your videos (and Chris too) Love your shop wish I could have spent more time there. If anyone out there is on a holidays to Victoria, Australia make the effort and go and visit Nagambie and drop in and meet Christine and Chris it's well worth the effort and support this wonderful couple. Thanks Christine and Chris.😊
Thank you so much for making the trip over yesterday Janet. It was lovely meeting you. I hope the rest of your trip is fabulous, and you have a safe journey home😊
I live in Canada and what sells in Australia doesn't always sell here but I follow your instructions which btw are excellently explained and I learn sooo much from you!! Thank you very very much for making your tutorials!! And your tips!!! I do however make x-body bags and have sold, - 2 so far. I'm starting out slow so's not to overwhelm myself.
I love your colour combos and that 70s fabric is making me nostalgic. Makes me want to put on an orange cheesecloth dress and untie my hair. Thanks for the tutorial 😀
haha, I had some bright orange velour fabric a while back. All I wanted to do was make an orange jumpsuit. It's a good thing for the universe that didn't happen😁😁
My daughter and I are doing a wine show in may. This bag is perfect to sell there. Thank you for showing these batch sewing techniques . They help us so much ! 😅
How fun are these fabrics! Small crossbody bags are so handy❤ I keep a little bag rolled up in the bottom of my purse that is just big enough to hold my wallet and phone. It is unlined and rolls up into a nice compact little bundle. The top edge is hemmed and the sides are sewn with a French seam which is then rotated to the center front and back. The bottom is also a French seam with the boxed corners created by folding over a half inch from each side. The strap is two pieces of grosgrain ribbon that tie at the shoulder to adjust the length. The top is closed with a button and a ribbon folded in half in a cool way that creates a point on the end and a slot for the button to pass through. Might be something you could use some of your lighter weight samples for.
Hi Christine! The bags look great and the colors are lovely. I still haven't made any bags yet but I got the fabric to make them. I did make 8 pillow covers for my accent pillows in my living room and I made a macrame leaf wall hanging. I love crafting, it's fun and keeps me busy. Thanks again for the video and your time.
Arghh! I just decluttered a giant bin of upholstery fabric samples and NOW I see what I could have been using them for. Well, luckily I could not part with some of them. :-) Thank you for this amazing tutorial!
I love love love your videos Christine. I'm learning so much and they are a great source of inspiration. Greetings from Bavaria, Susa (die orientbayerin)
They are all gorgeous Christine. Your technique is genius. I love that you're so honest with the closed zip gaff! Thank you for taking the time and sharing your expertise.
I found several places online that mail out samples...I asked for them... they were so tiny!!! I may be able to make 2x2 square patchwork with them. But I will have to go to the local stores and ask. I haven't the courage just yet! Lolol
Hi Christine. I use the fabric samples like yours. The best way I’ve found is to put the in the freezer for a week or so and when you take them out those horrible papers come off very easily. If you get the sticky bits, just sprinkle them lightly with talc. Love your videos.
Thank you Gerry . 🥰 I have just such very sticky labels that are easy to peel off. But then they leave very sticky areas. Your method works well for this particular type. No sticking after removing. Thanks so much for your advice!!! Some can be removed well with ironing, some just make you despair because nothing works. Every manufacturer comes up with something different to drive us crazy.
Christine, I love this bag! I’m going to make some but I’m going to put the swivel clips on the bags themselves, instead of the straps. Then you can remove the strap and clip the bag anywhere else, even your belt loops!
Another great tutorial Christine. I have had a Christine weekend. I have done 2 heavy dute bags, a couple of strawberries (they are definitely going in the girls Christmas stockings) and working on a batch of hanging tea towels. You are so inspiring.
Hi Christine, thank you for you very well explained, with lots of tips, video's. I just want to ask, do you do most of you overlock and sewing with black thread? And do not worry about the fabric colour. Also your topstitching.. in black... thank you and keep on doing this educational video's. Much appreciated
Hi Lynette. In dressmaking, I'll try to always match the thread. With my bags, I tend to favour grey and black, as they blend better with most of the fabric. If lighter, I'll go grey or white for overlocking. For topstitching, if medium to dark fabric, I like to use a bluish grey thread, but I have no set rule really. It mostly depends on what's on my shelf😁
Oh wow Christine! I have just discovered your channel and fabulous videos 😃 And I have been to Nagambie! Such a beautiful place by the lake. Thank you for your tutorials.
I have to mention one thing! I dont know what other countries or areas have but our California ID is like a credit card with a magnetic strip. About 15 years ago I bought a small handback at a thrift store to use for going out at night. It had a front pocket with a magnetic clasp. I put my ID and ATM card in it. It demagnetized both! So I wont buy or make a purse with a magnetic clasp. Oh and then it made me realize an overnight birthday stay at a local hotel the room key got demagnetized but had not related that yet as I had my 2 other cards inside the purse in a small zipper pocket!
I think this was a problem we had here too, but I believe the cards may have changed a little. It's still definitely something to be aware of though. I prefer my bags with zips. Perhaps that's why😁
Great video. I prefer the stripes but all nice colours. Just a mention about the straps. The written sizes say 4.5" but you said 3.5" - I guess it depends on the size of your 'D' rings anyway. Hope you're keeping 'busy' in the shop with lots of visiting tourists 😁
Hi Christine, Michigan in the house. I like the bag idea, but when it comes to the different types of fabrics, do you try to keep the polyester with the polyester, or do you mix them together? For instance, some swatches are 100% polyester, but some are a mix of cotton (25%) and polyester (75%) or some other mix. Or there might be a mix of rayon and cotton, or rayon and polyester or polypropylene and polyester...the fabric types are endless. I ask because the boards will have about four pieces sewn to it, showing the various prints for pillows, chairs, sofas and ottomans, and I'm finding that even though the color palette is set, the type of fabrics vary on that board. So do you pay attention to that, in matching the fabric types, or do you just pick your choices by the patterns and colors to put your bags together? Thank you..
It depends on how varied the fabric is. Usually, I'll put similar fabric together, but with furnishing fabric it's sometimes nice to mix it up a little. 😀
What happens at the top where the zipper is not as long as the top? Does it get taken in by the seam allowance? I couldn't picture why you did the zipper that way and I'd love to know. :)
Jennifer, the zipper tabs allow for better corners on the sides of the bags, and give a nice clean finish. You can see this technique better in my most recent videos😀
I've been binge watching your video library while my own studio is under construction. I'm wondering if upholstery fabric bags are washable and dryable in a washing machine and dryer? Any special washing instructions? Love your instruction by the way. So clear to understand. Thank you.
How exciting to be getting a new studio. I think I've already outgrown mine. I'll have to take over the house soon😁 I wash my upholstery fabric bags fairly often. They wash up well. I don't think I've put any in the clothes dryer though. I just wash in cold water.
This is a brilliant tutorial. How do you get your sample fabrics ? I need to make myself a crossbody bag. I am tall. I walk with crutches and need a back for phone and a long strap.
I love watching your videos. I love the way you put the tab on the zipper. Do you have a video explaining it in a little more detail. ? I know there is less bulk but have not seen a picture of the finished zipper. Is there a way to avoid the zipper or tab altogether? I think on this video, you did it too short but did not show the finished top. Thanks Yes, thank you. Second video is much better explanation but still just a quick picture. You are very good at explaining and your video is clear. I am a long time sewer and am teachng Mexican ladies so am paying extra attention to those zipper corners. Lol Thank you.
I didn't even consider showing the zipper Rose. Have a look at this bag. The technique for the tabs is exactly the same except that it sits flat along the fabric. th-cam.com/video/_xXvBKubdyA/w-d-xo.html or you can have a look at this video too. The zipper is at the top of the bag. th-cam.com/video/bj8WnEsS_C0/w-d-xo.html Let me know if they don't help, and I'll do a dedicated video for the zipper tape with tabs, and I'll show the detail😊
Love these bags. I prefer the striped version. Thank you for showing us how to make these. I was able to score several sample books with thicker fabrics like chenille, velvet, sunbrella fabric, etc. about the same size as yours. Any suggestions for what I could make with them since they are heavier? Thank you.
That's awesome Karen. You can try adding a few more pieces together to make a bigger bag, or even have a piece as an accent with thinner fabric like denim around it😊
Hi Christine , I have heaps of double folded bais binding can I use that instead of making and folding 2 inch strip ? 😊 . Your tutorials are fabulous thankyou
Hi Christine. Ever since I found your channel. I'm so happy watching your shows. It's really nice to find someone who loves doing the same things I do. I'm not sure how you charge what you do for your products or why I can't. What is the difference in the Rte of exchange between the US and where you are?
Thanks Wendy. I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel. I did a video on pricing and the exchange rates last year some time. Should be in the selling playlist somewhere. Basically I'd start by working out what rate of pay you'd like. I use the industry standard as a guide. Then add expenses, insurance, taxes etc, and most importantly trust that you are worth it😁
I have just found your channel. I'm having a blast watching your videos. I was wondering where did you get your fabric swatches from? I seen the video using the upholstery fabric for the purses earlier. I'm financially handicapped, so finding something at a good price is exciting. I'm hoping to find some in the USA.
Can I ask where would be a good place to ask for material sample books? I have some with heavy upholstery fabrics but it we great to have some material ones too. Love this video
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs ♥️ thanks for your reply Christine. I’m gonna try some phone carry bags using bosal for padding. You are good at making your bags. 🌼
These little bags are fabulous Christine! I have a question about whether you ever use interfacing in your bag making? Thank you for sharing! You do a beautiful job!
Thanks Lottie. When I work with upholstery fabric, I rarely use interfacing. I find it's usually sturdy enough, and will go through domestic machines more easily. 😁
On the tougher papers what about the chewing gum remover, bus companies used to use it when kids stuck up the seats, dad brought some home once from the depot and it's fantastic for sticky messes
I've never heard of this until now Tracey. I've just finished a video on the paper removal. It'll be up tomorrow. I have hundreds of samples, so it would be too time consuming for me😊
Hi Christine , when you use the letter sided tape for your zips, are you then sewing through the dble sided tape ? The reason I ask is that my machine needle gets all gummed up, and the machine won't sew. Thanks
Maxine, I use the SewEasy double sided tape, and stitch through all the layers at once. I have never had an issue with the gum on my needles with this brand😀
Sometimes I do Katrien, but if I'm lining the bags, and I'm not at the shop, I'll use my regular machine. (shop serger is industrial. Quicker and better)😁
Liz, they're much more economical to purhase in bulk. It depends on where you are in the world, but I often purchase from Ebay and Amazon. I have a few Amazon links in the description😊 I'm considering ordering from Albaba as they're even cheaper there
Hi Christine, i have been recently following your tutorials and moved to Sydney recently..I like the way how you are open with your pricing strategies. Back in Singapore i used to do lot of craft stalls... I have quick question, is it okay not to use any interfacing in this crossbody bag.. The bags are looking amazing.. im just wondering whether it's necessary to use the interfacing or not in a normal cotton fabric.. kindly advise ❤
One problem i had...the opening left to turn the bag...how do you stitch that closed? I had to do a blind stitch which i am not very good at and the bags did not have a professional look.
I don't always film that part Kat, so may have missed it. You can either whip stitch it closed, or line up the edges and sew on the machine. I usually do them by machine😁
Illine, I have a playlist on free fabric with a few videos showing how to source it that may help 😁 th-cam.com/play/PLwdRgjJztIb2l6Jk1WaG6yrMGMAsxaEH4.html
Thanks Margaret. I've done a few videos on finding free fabric that you'll find in the playlist. I plan on travelling to city soon and will cold call some places to hunt for more. I'll do a video on my results then too 😀
Laurie, if you have a look at this video at 16.01 I show you how to put the zip and slider on that may make it a little clearer. th-cam.com/video/lfK3lVHRkMk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jGnNnGBxLiQnX6be 😀
@Aysha’s Handmade Items this is the storage bag video, though I may misunderstand your needs. th-cam.com/video/NNu3_Z3du-k/w-d-xo.html If I've got it wrong, you can email a link if you like😊
Great work again :) Just wondering, do you ever have any issues with your needles gumming up because of the double sided tape ? I haven't actually tried that yet and it does look it could be a time saver.
I love the bags but I can't get past the handle straps, it's to heavy looking... they would look so much more lovely with strap that was half that size
Every time I watch a video of yours, I’m astounded by all of the tips you mention just as you explain your process. I really appreciate the time you take to make your content!
Wow, thank you Christine🙂
Just started a second video, and I’m impressed.

I did the same gave loads to charity shop and a charity creative group. Still got some left though. So glad I found this site really inspirational.

Thanks Claire, I forget the zip in almost every project😁
Love your style of teaching!!
Thanks so much Jan😊
I found several places online that mail out samples...I asked for them... they were so tiny!!! I may be able to make 2x2 square patchwork with them. But I will have to go to the local stores and ask. I haven't the courage just yet! Lolol
Just go for it Amy. Sometimes it takes a while, but when you get your first batch it'll be so exciting😊
I prefer the circles 💖 Thank you 💕
They sure are cute😀
Cute bags. Really good instructions as always!
Thanks so much 😊
I always like all your project videos.
Thanks Izzy😁
Hi Christine. I use the fabric samples like yours. The best way I’ve found is to put the in the freezer for a week or so and when you take them out those horrible papers come off very easily. If you get the sticky bits, just sprinkle them lightly with talc. Love your videos.
Interesting that you say that Gerry. I've just finished a video on this topic. It'll be up tomorrow. The freezer didn't work for me though😊
Thank you Gerry . 🥰 I have just such very sticky labels that are easy to peel off. But then they leave very sticky areas. Your method works well for this particular type. No sticking after removing. Thanks so much for your advice!!!

Dee, there are a few videos in my playlist on free fabric finds that might help you 😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Thank you!!
Christine, I love this bag! I’m going to make some but I’m going to put the swivel clips on the bags themselves, instead of the straps. Then you can remove the strap and clip the bag anywhere else, even your belt loops!
That's a wonderful idea Cathy. I almost did that, but didn't think of a use for the clip. Good job!😀
Just found your channel so I’m binge watching! I love the bags with the circles most.
Welcome Dena. Hope you enjoy the rest of the channel😁

Maxine, I use the SewEasy double sided tape, and stitch through all the layers at once. I have never had an issue with the gum on my needles with this brand😀
Thanks ❤
You're very welcome Olimpia😊
Thank you. Is there a reason why you don't use a serger?
Sometimes I do Katrien, but if I'm lining the bags, and I'm not at the shop, I'll use my regular machine. (shop serger is industrial. Quicker and better)😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs it would be great if you did some tutorials with the serger in combo with sewing machine 🙂Big hello from Belgium!
@@katrienvh4289 I'll try to come up with something this week. I had another request just yesterday as well😀
Very nice!
Thanks Karen😁
Practical shape e.g. for mini umbrella and a water bottle. How do they sell?
This one is brand new to the shop Sybille. I hope to have results in my next update😁
Great video, can you tell me where did u buy your labels?
My fabric labels are from
wunderlabel.com.au/?affil=christineshomeaffairs 😀
Where do you get fabric swatch boards? That would be perfect for little projects for little ones.
Tamlyn, I have a "free fabric" playlist where I share my techniques for obtaining free fabric😁
Were the sliders 1 inch and strapping 1 inch also? Thanks
Yes jacqui. Both were 1 inch 😁
Hi Christine, wondering where you get d rings & hooks and zipper lengths from please. Are they cheaper to buy this way. Video are great.
It's not always necessary to use stabilisers in your bags. It really depends on the look you're after, and how structured you'd like it 😀
One problem i had...the opening left to turn the bag...how do you stitch that closed? I had to do a blind stitch which i am not very good at and the bags did not have a professional look.
I almost always sew it closed on the machine. Just lay the edges flat with seam underneath, and stitch very close to the edge😀
How do you stitch up the hole in the lining? Did I miss that part?
I don't always film that part Kat, so may have missed it. You can either whip stitch it closed, or line up the edges and sew on the machine. I usually do them by machine😁
Awesome. Thanks
You're welcome Cynthia😁
Where and how do you get swatches from please? Ann in Moorabbin, thank you
Ann, check out my "free fabric" playlist which will give you some ideas😀
What are your measurements for these beautiful bags?
Thank you. It does need that fatter pillow😁
Where do you get your fabric swatches? I've heard that you say that they're free.
Illine, I have a playlist on free fabric with a few videos showing how to source it that may help 😁 th-cam.com/play/PLwdRgjJztIb2l6Jk1WaG6yrMGMAsxaEH4.html
Lovely work ! But here in s.C you’d never get these prices !
How or where do you get the swatches?
At prices of material
It’s hard to make money
Thanks Margaret. I've done a few videos on finding free fabric that you'll find in the playlist. I plan on travelling to city soon and will cold call some places to hunt for more. I'll do a video on my results then too 😀
Wizzkid Extra ordinaire ❤❤!!
Haha, thanks Helen😀
How did you get the zippers zip in the middle and both sides closed. I’m struggling.
Laurie, if you have a look at this video at 16.01 I show you how to put the zip and slider on that may make it a little clearer. th-cam.com/video/lfK3lVHRkMk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jGnNnGBxLiQnX6be 😀
Hi christine do u use polyester or is cotton ok
I use both Jacueline😁
Is there anyway you could do a tutorial on the nappy bag holder
Which type Aysha? Something large like the travel tote? That has hots of pockets in it😊
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs The one that you got on your website to stored storage bags in not large
@Aysha’s Handmade Items this is the storage bag video, though I may misunderstand your needs. th-cam.com/video/NNu3_Z3du-k/w-d-xo.html
If I've got it wrong, you can email a link if you like😊
How do you get the fabric swatches from companies
Here's a video I did on the topic Jaqualynne😁 th-cam.com/video/bm-t7CTS39U/w-d-xo.html
I love that you've forget to open your zippers too!! Hate when that happens!!
Oh, I do it all the time Jan. 😁
Where do you get the sample swatches, ma'am?
Here's a video I did on how I get the fabric Dea 😀😀th-cam.com/video/bm-t7CTS39U/w-d-xo.html
where do you get your sample swatches?
Sheila, I have a few videos in my playlist on how to source the fabrics😀
Do you wash the swatches?
I try not to Angie. Only because it takes time I don't want to waste. I do wash my bags if they get dirty though😁
Great work again :) Just wondering, do you ever have any issues with your needles gumming up because of the double sided tape ? I haven't actually tried that yet and it does look it could be a time saver.
Not at all Jennifer, but I do also change my needles regularly. 😊
How many of these can you make in 1 hour? I don't think I caught it...
If I have a good production line going, I can make about three an hour😀
I love the bags but I can't get past the handle straps, it's to heavy looking... they would look so much more lovely with strap that was half that size
That's a very good point Elizabeth. I think I might try to get some more narrow webbing. They'd be easy to replace😁
❤
Have you ever made a hobo bag?
Karen, I've done a boho style bag before. Here's the video 😁

Fortunately we're in a tourist area. People like to know where the bags come from Gina😀
Have you got a Facebook or Instagram page?
Yes Daniel. I have both. You'll find links just under the banner of my channel on the right corner😊
