Earthworm Jim is a cult classic game from the 1990s. The company behind the games is coming out with a brand new show based on the titular character Jim. #earthwormjim
All I ask is for this to be great and not poorly. I don't care if Dan Castellaneta isn't voicing Jim but I just want to have good humor and no cheep effects
Don't bet on it. I half expect this to be almost entirely about the girl earthworm we see in the cockpit in the trailer seeing as how Hollywood appears to have learned NOTHING from what happened with Masters of the Universe.
@Saint umu The fact that there's more than one worm in a suit is already a red flag given Jim's origin story. Psychrow was delivering a one-of-a-kind super suit created by Professor Monkey-for-a-Head to Queen Slug-for-a-Butt only to drop it on Earth where it landed on a common earthworm. That's not the sort of thing that happens twice, let alone three times. One thing that makes Jim so memorable is the fact that he's unique. Having others like him just cheapens it.
@Saint umu Not only that, but there is ALREADY a strong female counterpart to Jim; Princess What's-Her-Name (yeah, that's her real name). Also, Jim already had a pint-sized sidekick named Peter Puppy. Where the hell are they?
I mean one thing to consider is that the original show did not perform well at all hence the only being on air for one year. They are most likely considering this fact and attempting to branch out to a more marketable product. If they do everything the exact same then it'll flop like it did originally. It's not a bad thing to try new things or change the original source material especially when the original show did not live up to expectations.
a cartoon lasting 2 seasons in the 90s was good. back then, most series were short and rarely lasted more than 1 season. new cartoons were cranked en-masse and a series that wasn't massively popular was dropped on the spot. therefore, getting 2 seasons means it had SOME success and was worth continuing for a while.
For this caliber of cartoon id say you're somewhat right. Although There were a lot of cartoons that lasted well into the 2000s having started in the 90s but a lot of those had the backing of a nickelodeon or cartoon network. So it depends on your point of view as the lifespans varied greatly around this time. Ed Edd and eddy lasted until 2008 same with code named kids next door. While pinky and the brain only lasted 3 years as well as alot of other cartoons but my point was that earthworm Jim was just another average animated show which failed to leave a lasting legacy like some of the other cartoons from the 90s.
@@semantics5161 true, though the number of seasons is rarely indicative of quality or even popularity sometimes. shows like swat kats and pirates of dark water were popular yet canceled due to budgetary issues, delayed toys or subject material, but they're still fondly remembered. as for earthworm jim, i remember liking it at the time, but it was average, like you said. i'm worried the new one has to work off a sweat to attract fans, though, the franchise has been on the shelf for a long time.
I agree season length is often not indicative of the quality of a show. It's just there's no ratings or viewership counts or anything most of the time with cartoons so it's hard to find a way to compare them objectively. And I like to leave out my personal opinion as much as possible because I'm a terrible critic, I love almost every show or movie I've ever watched so every video would just be me saying "I thought this show was awesome and I'd rank it in my top 10" 😄
If you played the video games of Earthworm Jim back in the 90's then you may like his cartoons as he adventures in Space defeating those evil dreaded aliens like Earthworm Jim does in the video games and I believe he is getting an brand new HD TV Animation soon.
I want this new show to be wacky. The new clip shown didn’t seem to have that absurd personality Jim is known for. Also want my boy Psycrow to appear again

Earthworm Jim's origin story was that Psycrow was delivering a super suit made by Professor Monkey-for-a-Head to Queen Slug-for-a-Butt only to drop it on Earth where it landed on a common earthworm. Not only does this make Jim unique even in the context of his own wacky universe, but the entire plot of the first game was the villains all trying to get the suit back for the queen. If Professor Monkey-for-a-Head could have just made more super suits, then there would have been no reason to hunt Jim down in the first place, thus negating the whole premise.
I think it's safe to say that this show isn't happening. Despite Doug having no involvement I was still intrigued by what was shown. But a two year wait with nothing new this year? Yeaaah I'll just move on.
I think it would be nice if there was another Earthworm Jim remaster by a more competent studio that improves the audio and difficulty from the other remaster, while also bringing back the boss music from that game if possible.

I haven't been able to respect Doug TenNapel or any of his creations for many years... not since I learned that he's a fundamentalist conservative creationist (and a bigot) who created Professor Monkey-for-a-head explicitly in order to mock evolution science and then inserted said character into his games/cartoons in order to push those perspectives unto others (most notably impressionable children). Feel a certain obligation to remind people of these facts every once in a while.
I honestly can't stand it when adults try to slip personal beliefs into children's shows. It's pretty disgusting to try to influence other people's kids that way

The fact that they've already taken steps to distance themselves from him (by expressing support of trans-rights on their official twitter profile, which flies in the face of Doug TenNapel's own transphobia) is at least a little bit encouraging... I do wonder how much he got for them being allowed to use his character and stuff though...
