Hi Brad, I owe you a very big thank you for your videos, I think it's the youtube videos that helped me the most. thanks to you, I can finally make a map that looks like me. thank you so much.
Thanks Jugom. I appreciate the feedback. I have to be honest I was worried this one was a bit too hard core. Next one will be straight forward if you're comfortable with this one?
@@TallmanBradGameplay well, I've been messing around with GIMP and 7d maps for a couple of years now, so it was quite easy to follow on my part. I still learn new things from you tho. so if it's up to me, hit as hard as you can.
@@Jugom6 haha great! You can probably teach me a thing or two. I spent several years with Photoshop but moved over to gimp when PS went subscription based and really liked the idea of sharing the tutorials in software that any viewer can just grab for free. Next video will be a breeze for you.
Some useful methods there. I thought that using the paths tool might help out(didn't know what it was), I just did it the old dirty way haha(draw a dot/first mark, then hold shift and click your second point. Didn't know that about the blending colours for roads, dang should've left mine like that in the first place but was following what the exported vanilla map had.
Thanks Dunbar. But more technical than normal but these tools are pretty easy the second time round. I think I might have made it look harder than it is.
I added building to a custom map I generated, however in the map preview image within appdata, the added POIs don't show up on the map. This makes it hard to figure out where I need to draw my custom roads. How do I get my added POIs to show on the map preview image?
Is there an a21 update for maptoolz? I saw something about joining a discord for an updated version of it but can’t find a link anywhere to said person’s discord 😁
Yes and no. There's a temporary fix version linked in one of these videos in the comments. I'm pretty sure I posted it in the last few weeks. I'll have a look when I get a second but you might find it first if you hav a quick scan through. Sorry I don't have the link to hand right now.
@@TallmanBradGameplay Hi Brad, I searched a little on your discord, without finding, I will see in your videos. but that's not the worst thing, it's that I just saw that the MAPEXPORT or MAPPREVIEW commands no longer work. I'm completely lost. I will surely come back to the a20 version, with a20 and thanks to you and your tutorial, I knew how to redo a map, now I can't do it at all :)
@@christophelaschinski7404 the link is in the pinned messages in the mapmaking channel in my discord. Mapexport and mappreview work in the version on my discord. DM me there and I'll share a link?
I'm curious. between Maptoolz, and say a gen mod like Teragon. is it possible to have the generator re-generate roads after you've edited a map? like say I moved a town a few miles north of its location and wanted the new roads to reflect this without having to redo the entire road ways by hand?
Yes you can import your map, biomes and poi locations into Teragon and get it to run any commands that it would as if it was generated by Teragon itself. Including importing a map just so it can draw roads for you. Or add erosion or change the biomes. Lots of options.
@@KefkaCasselstone it's not particularly quick but I don't mind so much as it is doing a lot of work. It won't be as easy moving cities created by Teragon as there is very little flat terrain in Teragon maps. But you can start with a tfp rwg map, move the cities, then import the map and the pois into Teragon for it to add more cities if there is room. Long winded but a satisfying project if you like that sort of thing.
Hi Brad, this is a general message, not particularly about this game. I can see this series of games is your big thing and you concentrate very heavily on it, which is absolutely your right as it is your channel. However, I'm currently working my way through the Fallout 4 playthrough (up to Ep 12) and it's one of the funniest, most interesting and relevant playthroyghs of a game I have seen. I say relevant because many of us are not professional gamers who start a playthrough having already clocked up 1000s of playing hours. You genuinely did not know what you were doing, did not know what would happen next, and it was all the better for it as we saw your skills gradually improving. It would be great if you are able to do another similar stream to run alongside your more regular content. Thinking about games of 2022, the one that jumps out at me is, of course, Elden Ring. Anyhow, really glad I have found your channel and have added it to my subscriptions. Thanks Chris
Thanks very much Chris. I was really enjoying Fallout 4 (and Prey) but just wasn't finding an audience. I'm not even sure if I should be that concerned about that sort of thing but it felt like the right time to move on. The live streams were quite stressful to be honest. Never sure if anyone gets my sense of humour. As simple as it is haha! Over time the videos that have been a success and also I have maintained an interest in have been tutorials. I do miss the Let's Play style but don't miss the pressure of trying to make them entertaining. There are a load of amazing TH-camrs out there and I think my play style is very amateurish and a bit old fashioned to be playing along side them. I'm sorry I didn't complete the playthrough. I'd probably still be at it now if I'd kept going! But Chris I have to say your comment has put a smile on my face and I feel a little bit happier about what I was able to do with that series. You taking the time to comment means something and I appreciate that. Best wishes to you Chris.
Thanks for the response Brad, I'm sure it is a lot more stressful to do that sort of thing As for your sense of humour and personality, it's probably fair to say it is very British, and all the better for that. It can get very hard finding a familiar voice in amongst all of the American streamers. Take care of yourself and I'll certainly finish off watching the last few episodes of the playthrough . Chris
hi there first off great tutorial, however i downloaded the mod and placed in the mods folder. both on the old version of adding mods and the new one to rule out user error (still may be user error) load in the map and play to configure all the files. but when it comes to exporting the map using "mapexport" i fall short with ***ERROR unknown command 'mapexport' could you please explain what i have done wrong here. as opening the splat files directly to gimp only shows me a transparent image. thanks in advance. subbed to you also
You should only need the MapToolz folder within the "appdata/roaming/7daystodie/Mods" folder. Inside of the MapToolz folder should be the config folder. No deeper path than that. If that makes sense? If your path is any different the mapexport command might not work as the mod can't be found. It's important to make sure EAC is off also. Yes the splat3 in its base format is a pain to work with. I'm not sure if you've seen the video where I mention that the preview isn't automatically generated any more? Just preempting something you may encounter next after you get this working. Thanks for the kind words Raven and for the subscription. Sorry I haven't been very active with TH-cam videos recently. Working on the Wild West mod has taken up a lot of my time but I feel the effort has been worth it. I'll be back to mapmaking videos after a21 though.
@@TallmanBradGameplay thank you for your reply. i understand how time consuming it all is and no worries. appreciate the heads up also. good luck with your project look forward to see it.
Do i really need maptools or can i do this without it? I am using teragon to generate stuff and i just want to edit biomes around water and roads and stuff.
It looks like there is no MapToolz for A21, the thing I am most interested is making a whole 7 Days to Die map by hand because all the Map Generators I seen cause issues. Issues like a POI being to "low" or to "high", stuff like Roads going strait through a POI and all kinds of other weird behavior. Your 7th video in this series, lets you fix such stuff in existing maps but I can't even get to the page to get the MapToolz and it seems there is no version for A21. So seems like I am stuck.
