      Only problem I've had was just running out of memory which resulted in the 7 days client crashing to desktop or an "out of memory" message in the console but I was eventually able to do the conversion on a 10k map with 16gb of memory. I just needed to squeeze out every last bit of memory I could by trimming running services etc. In the end the difference in free memory was only a few hundred megabytes in total but it was all that was needed and now it goes through the conversion without a problem. Well, sure it freezes, but like always, that doesn't mean it's not working.
      For me v1.2 also "froze" in the sense that Windows deemed it "unresponsive" but, nonetheless, it also did it's job. It's good to remember that "freezing" or when Windows tells you that a program is not responding, it doesn't mean it won't become responsive again or that it isn't actually working on whatever it's supposed to. It merely means that the message/event loop windows programs use to handle window operations, user interaction etc hasn't been run for a while, which in this case results in the Window/UI not updating and the program becoming unresponsive to user input. So for me, at least, it's just becoming that, unresponsive, but not deadlocking or going into infinite loop. This means it will finish when it's done the job as long as you don't run out of memory which results in the program crashing/being closed by windows or an "out of memory" message in the game console. Windows may prompt you to wait or close the program, especially if you click the window, so just choose to wait. The wait option is there for the aforementioned reason.

      @@cinopher I spent some time today testing the dev version I have then 1.3 and 1.3.1 and they all completed in almost exactly the same amount of time. None had errors. However, I'm running 32gb ram and only made 4k maps to test. Others have reported that restarting their system just before launching and running seems to get round the problem for them. I could try a 10k map tomorrow and monitor memory usage to see if it maxes out or at least tries to. I'll post here with any findings and update my pinned post if there's anything that might help others. Thanks for your detailed comment Bubble. Best wishes to you.

      @@TallmanBradGameplay Thanks for the prompt and kind reply!
      Anyways, all of that makes me think even more that the issue causing the client crashing to desktop, at least, is just running out of memory. It makes sense especially if some got it to work right after restarting Windows when the memory usage is usually lower than after running some time and because IIRC 16gb system memory is also considered the minimum for generating a 10k map. That of course depends on how much your OS, running services and programs are taking but my guess is the actual memory the 10k generation _requires_ is somewhere between 10-13 GB but if you have more than that available it should now utilize much more than that. I remember reading it allocating up to 20gb or so for 10k but sadly posts on reddit, the 7 days to die community forums etc usually lack required detail to make reliable conclusions.
      Be it as it may, I'm not sure if even a 16k map would max out whatever you have available of the 32GB memory though but perhaps you could try that also? If you really want to dive into the deep end here there are programs like Sysinternals Testlimit that can be used to, for instance, allocate custom amount of memory to simulate low memory conditions.
      All the best to you!

      Sorry this has taken a while. Continued testing 1.3.1 vs dev copy and 1.3.1 started crashing with larger maps where the dev copy completed successfully. We'll need to wait for an update from Zipcore for a fix I'm afraid. Hopefully soon. If you're not needing to change water height I'd recommend sticking with 1.2 for the moment.

      @@TallmanBradGameplay Any news on this? Does Zipcore have a discord? Where can I download the older version 1.2, or any older version?

    I don't know about anyone else, But I really enjoy all of your instructional videos, I hope you continue bringing them to us, as real life allows of course.

      I'll try my best. As long as there's something to do a video about, and I have time, I'm happy to do them. Will be quite a few more videos once teragon gets its public release.

    2:58 Instead of using the magic wand, you can use "select by color" and that should grab everything in the layer of the color you click next. in this case that particular shade of blue.
    Another good option, as there's nothing else in that layer, is just right clicking the layer and then selecting "alpha to selection" and that should select everything in that layer.

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had someone else mention select by colour too. Been using it since. Alpha to selection is good though. Thanks for the tips!

    I think the ability to be able to move a city could be very useful to those trying to make maps more accurate to an irl location. Ofc we want to see it.

      I agree. It's a very impressive feature. Hopefully a few more people are interested in seeing that demonstrated. Thanks for getting the ball rolling Goldfingers.

    Awesome content! Keep up the good work. By the way, regarding the part where you are selecting all the water areas from the water mask/water preview layer, you can also select everything that matches a specified color in one go by going to Tools -> Selection Tools -> By Color Select and then clicking on the color you want. Makes it a tad faster.

    I’d love to see moving cities. I’m also curious if Map Toolz lets you redraw roads at all. I’ve been experimenting with map tweaks using World Machine to produce more realistic terrain, but I’ve never known what to do with the roads if I tweak terrain substantially.

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can indeed edit roads too and maptoolz does make it easier for you. After we've moved a city or town we'll need to reconnect the road 😉
      I'll see how long it takes to run through the city moving and if it's reasonably short I'll combine it with road editing. If not I'll do roads after that. However I've got some additional tips on working with roads I'd like to show everyone which might make it worth having its own video.
      Thanks for commenting Avicenna. I appreciate the support and the feedback.

      Ah thanks Avicenna. I'll have to spend a little time with the moving tutorial then see how it goes. Loads to talk about with map making but I don't want to bore everyone with too much of the same stuff. I'll see how it goes. Thanks for sticking around. More Teragon news very soon.
