Morris hit him when his arms were raised holding the ball, which is a completely defenseless position. Cant absorb it, can't block it or deflect it. Morris took a risk, got his reward. Sometimes you have to make the mistake to learn from it.

To be fair, with Shaq it's not so much of an issue as has been the unfortunate characterization of him throughout his career as being some sort of wise, deep thinker. He never was that. It's not really his fault.
Charles, on the other hand, somehow has been seen as this straight talking sage regardless of how incredibly stupid a lot of the things he says are.
